This is the greatest thing in a long time.
In itunes 4, you can stream your entire playlist
meaning you provide a link and a password and bam there is the playlist, playing on your computer

Now, imagine if the NPGMC had itunes 4 and a playlist was created to be shared by fams

WOW: Amazing

I'm interested, but not for the reason you mentioned. Why have we become so excited about playing music on our computers in the first place? For me, it's the weakest sound system I own.

i LOVE you, TheMax. does anyone else want to actually hear prince's music through another method, such as in your car (my personal fav, and it at least USED to be prince's, too) or in your home stereo?

What is so great about making a playlist? Any decent mp3 program like Winamp will let you make and save one in a few seconds. Of course you can also burn mp3s to CD as well and play them anywhere.

Can you make ACC files in winamp?
Can you buy music using winamp?

My home stereo now *starts* with my computer, which can burn CDs for my home stereo and car. And I love listening to music on my computer -- just get yourself some decent speakers with a bass unit.

I spend at least 8 hours a day on my computer, much more than I do in a car or in proximity to a decent stereo, so that's why I love having all my music on my Mac. smile

I don't think you are getting what XLbubba means by a playlist. the music store is only part of what you can do with iTunes 4. With iTunes 4, you can also connect to other people's playlist and listen to them on your computer. It doesn't copy the files onto your computer or burn them onto CD (at least I don't think it does), it simply lets you listen to the play list.

One use of this is you only need your music on one machine in your house and you can listen to it on the other machines. Another thing it means is somewhere like at a college, you can listen to your buddies music.

But the really cool thing it potentially means is someone like NPGMC could put up a playlist of unreleased tracks, remixes, etc, and let club members connect to their iTunes machine and listen to the music. This could be used to do something like preview a new album. Then the tracks could be pulled from the club machine when the album is released at the Apple store - and boom - all of the club members have heard the music and will go to the store to buy it, pushing the album up the top downloads list, thus getting other people to take a listen.

btw - independent artists are lining up to get on Apple's store. Let's hope Prince is high on the list

Personally, I am still trying to figure out what I get for my $25 this year. It isn't clearly listed anywhere on the sign up page.

I am also a fan of iTunes4. I would love to see Prince put up an Exclusive page like the other artists there and offer tracks and videos through their system. One click purchasing of music is great. It would also keep me from paying extra money for the filler material I never listen to. i.e. "When I lay My Hands On U" -- yawn.

Until I see a clear list of what I get for my money, I am reluctant to plunk down my credit card. So far, access to a Flash site, some sort of community thing, a collection of essays and a few tracks from a DVD I'll be able to buy at Best Buy later isn't alluring enough. SPELL IT OUT, Prince! The rest of us don't live in your world of riddles and nonsense. We live in a world of gas bills, mortgages and baby diapers. You want my money, do this little thing.

One thing I've wondered is if the reason for the cut in price to $25 for NPGMC this year is because Prince heard about the iTunes Music Store and plans to release music there instead of the club. The club is worth $25 to me just for the good concert tickets (assuming there's a tour this year).

And Itunes4 is a piece of shit compared to my bedroom stereo, living room stereo, car stereo. Hell, my kids boombox is better than Itunes4. Whatever is your point??

I didn't make the original post, but there's actually a few points

1 - I spend a lot of my time at my computer, thus have high quality speakers hooked up. And with high quality speakers, iTunes 4 is far better place to listen than any you listed - I have my whole music collection in one place and can put it on shuffle to hear something different all of the time, or can pick an artist or album I want to hear and listen to just that. Just a few keystrokes. Try doing that with a boom box.

2 - ever heard of the iPod? the new iPod as a dock with line out. The iPod as well gives me my entire music collection playing with Dolby Prologic 2 music decoding through my 7.1 sound system.

3 - the iPod also gives my my entire music library when I'm doing stuff like mowing the lawn.

4 - for my car, I'm always burning custom CDs from iTunes to put into my car's 6 CD changer. It'd be so much better if there was a good way to use iPod with it. But with iTunes 4, you can do stuff like make your own custom play list, or set up a rule to have iTunes make one for you - like give me a random collection of my top rated songs from Prince where the total time is is less than 80 minutes. Ready to go for a drive, click on that play list and burn a CD - I'll get a different set of songs each times.
