Reflection Room : does xactly what it says on the tin!

What is the problem with the Reflection room people?

I see the Reflection room as being just this - a reflection on Prince's past recordings. He is putting out some tracks that he thinks there's a value to revisiting.

I for one will not be expecting any new music in this room (the Reflection track was just a way of introducing the room in my opinion).

I would think that new music will be made available through one of the other rooms. Maybe live tracks via the Backstage room and new studio recordings via the Stairs (that we can't access without a password nor methinks some more $ upfront).

Just chill. The site's only been up a few weeks, there's already been more activity on it than on the old site in the whole of 2002. It's a new (and developing) experience, and it's only cost $25 so far.

clapping

I hadn't heard the two re-mixes (7 and Space), so for me, I've got something new.

I'm happy with the club, it's enjoyable!

I think you are right, it does do exactly what it says on the tin!!

What is a "tin"? I suspect this is a UK term that I'm not familiar with here in the States.

You could also say the "jar" or "box" or "can" and the expression would have the same meaning. "Getting what it says on the tin" means that you´re getting exactly what you were promised (on the label of the "tin").

At least that´s the way I´ve understood it. I´m from Sweden.

Spot on! "It does exactly what it says on the tin" is a strap line from a marketing campaign for a product that is sold here in the UK. The phrase has kind of worked its way in to the language!

NPGMC would have been so much smarter if they had just left the original song there & not replaced with previously available stuff. I think people would have given it a good month before they started compaining about the song never changing. The first song did not stay around long enough.

Whatever the "Reflection" room is supposed to be, the songs
are only in a very low bitrate so for soundquality, I don't
really want new songs to appear over there.

Another point to argue might be that Prince is still just a
musician. A brilliant one, but still, 1st and 4most he does
music.

So why then, does it have to be such a bitch to get a hold
of some new tunes when the Park has always boasted to have
hundreds of grooves stacked upon the shelves?

Ok, so he doesn't want to release the outtakes [yet]. But
is there anything to stop him from releasing another hand
full of "Tokyo/Osaka"-esque instrumental jams from last
year's tour? That couldn't be too hard, could it?

It's not like he's gonna be able to ever release everything
he's recorded on official pressed cd's with glossy inlays,
so why hoard up all this material and record it when it's
gonna linger in the vault anyway?

Yet, that is still besides the actual point. What I meant
to say is that, for all the flash animations and religious
babble, we haven't heard anything about any new material
since the release of ONA live.

For any other artist, that would be just fine since you'd
simply know there would be nothing else for about 14 months
to come.

However, I find this new version of the npgmc a slight bit
bewildering in that it charges you only $25 so basically
doesn't have to deliver anything.

Still ok with me this far.

But I just wonder why they're always able to talk about
future releases in their commercials and somehow, once
the show is up and running, these releases seem to be of
little or no importance anymore.

Club personell as well as club members scold others for
wanting to know what happened to the new music.

"Leave Prince alone. He's done enough already. I am so
happy to come home from a hard day's work and stroll in
my new house and relax in the backstage room or play
with my new dog "devour" for an hour"

Psyco Alarm starts ringing here smile

Ok ok, so you like. That's cool. But whatever happened to
the music being the first thing on the agenda?

Take for instance "Reflection" which was up on the site for
a few days and was taken down again so soon that most people
who couldn't join the first two days didn't even get a hold
of the thing. Why not offer it in a good soundquality on the
site when it's already out there, being shared by people in
a crap soundquality??

That's like "oh here's my new song, enjoy it in shitty sound
this is the best we're gonna offer you at the moment".

Prince a-la 1992 would've freaked over stuff like that. It
would have been either the best or nothing at all.

Once again, I have no problem with the club, it just seems
that for all the games and the Xenophobia candles and TRC
mousepads, the music is suffering, in that half of it is
released on cd, the other half on downloads. A lot of it
not in an original format, like a sequenced cd or something
with a tracklist [year 1].

It makes his musical output from the last 3 years a bit of
a mess when filed chronologically with the rest of his work.

I really forgot what my point was. Perhaps there is none,
cuz I have very mixed feelings about the club. I think it's
a very cool and brave initiatif and I like supporting it,
but I'm also a bit sad that although we did get a lot of
music from it this far, it's all a bit of a mess.

Some more talking and info about the music and a little
less preaching would do just fine.

Wouldn't you like to know when the Xpectation album was
recorded, who was present, how it came about. Something
like a recording journal and some quotes and such.

Same thing with the songs from year 1. It would have been
very nice to have some more info on those songs.

But who knows, I still have High Hopes for the Vault section
on the new site. Not really for new music, but perhaps they
will manage to tie his whole output together in one tight
way. I'm curious to see how they're gonna incorporate the
npgmc years into it.

What happened last year? To my knowledge, it got to the end of the year and ppl started complaining they had not got their monies worth. Then he released Xpectation. I think some ppl at least, felt then that the club had delivered its monies worth.

Right now, it has only been running for a few weeks. I suppose, for those not interested in the experience of the site, the goodies on offer have been one brand new song and chat with Nikka Costa. Sure, some will not be at all interested in the latter, yet I think it is different than the other features of the club and I personally think having on line guests is a bit of a treat, whether or not I even make it in the chat room!

The rest of the year has yet to come. I think it is unfair to say that he is not delivering. And I think it comes down to trust as well. Observing others possibly feeling impatient, I am wondering if they trust that 'more' in some description will come forth. I mean, ppl have paid the money upfront, I am wondering if that leaves ppl feeling a bit worried about whether they will get something. Yet, some goods have already come forth.

I dunno. I know that I feel ok with what is going on. All apart from how I feel towards ppl who are moaning. Me thinks I need to do some work on how I feel towards those that whine!!

this would make all the difference to me. if year 1 had not included the "rip-off" tracks like horny pony, get wild miami mix and thieves in the temple remix, and there had been even the SLIGHTEST bit of information given to us about the songs, i would have REALLY loved it.

instead, it was a frustrating year, with some great music that i've now mostly lost in my cd collection, since it was 2 computers, 3 hard drives and 2 moves ago, you know what i mean? i DO wish this had been released officially, say after the year ended, for an extra $whatever, to club members only.

some sort of recording journal would be an AMAZING treat. i really am starting to think that music is extremely low on prince's priority list, which makes me pretty damn nostalgic.

hopefully he'll prove me wrong, and SOON. at least he's got the hotttest fans, like istenszek, anxiety, bananacologne, tom, aaron, supafunky, all y'all...
