I can't believe all this moaning

It's obvious: 25$ is what you pay to be a member of the club, period.

Many other musicians' official fan clubs charge a lot more just for membership and deliver a lot less. We had some bonus with the videos and the reflection song. We have a club site. That's it.

Now we'll have to pay for the rest, I'm not saying it's fair but that's the way fanclubs work.

You just pay for membership, and sincerely 25$ is such a small price that I'm richer spending 'em than keeping 'em.

The thing you can actually criticize imho is the way the club is presented, you can't really be sure what you'll get.
This has ever been the biggest shortcoming of the club.

Anyway I knew from the start I was just paying for membership, but yesterday I went to the store and bought some Parma ham and pasta and I spent 21$, so I guess the price is not so high.

I agree with you. $25 is not much and it is well worth it, even for what we've already received through the club, and ther will certainly be more later this year.

I read that Mariah Carey charges $35 for her fan club, so it is not unusual for an artist to charge that amount.

Is it a "fan club" or a "music club"? Maybe that's where I erred in my expectations.

I've read almost all the threads here and in other forums (including npgmc forum) and there's a whole lotta moaning going on.

And I'm not referring to the videos or anything. A lot of people moan about the 25$ "I'm not gonna give him my 25$ for this kind of blah blah blah".

What I'm saying is 25$ is a very low price for a fan club. It's just the price of admission let's say.

Yesterday I went to a disco club and I had to pay 20$ just to enter... So I'll give 25$ to Prince, I think even one of his songs is more worthy than some steps on a disco floor.

Fair enough...I hadnt really noticed much apart from technical moans. $25 is a very small amount to pay compared to the last 2 years...although,I must admit,if we got nothing else apart from what we already have for $25 then I might start to question if it was fair (after all many sites have a few video clips and mp3s for free).

However I have a very strong feeling that the show aint over yet!!!

Something I think everyone really needs to take into account is that it's $25 for the entire year and it's almost a sure thing that there will be more going on in the site. Prince always changes it up, adds things, gives you music. It's only been 2 weeks!!!

Other more expensive clubs that offer less? Name some. I'll go the other way...Beck, Tori Amos & R.E.M. fan newsletters offer concert presale passwords FREE of charge, along with downloads. R.E.M. has an official fanclub that offers the following for just $10:

R.E.M. Fanclub
The R.E.M. Fan Club is run out of the band's headquarters in Athens, Georgia, and has over 7,000 members in over 50 countries. The Fan Club got started in June of 1984 after the release of the band's second full-length record, RECKONING, and continues to be the best source available for R.E.M. news, merchandise, and tour information. An annual membership in the Fan Club costs the same as it always has: $10.00 if you live in the United States and $12.00 if you live outside of the United States.

AN ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP IN THE FAN CLUB INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING:

LATEST R.E.M. NEWS
Throughout the year, the Fan Club issues 4 newsletters, full of information about the band, as well as exclusive photographs and interviews. Topics range from tour and recording news, side projects, organizations the band members support, and, of course, the music.
MERCHANDISE
The Fan Club offers a wide variety of merchandise, including T-shirts, hats, and, from time to time, limited edition, Fan Club-only items. Members receive discounts on all merchandise offered through the Fan Club.

HOLIDAY PACKAGE
A Must! Holiday salutations from the band and office staff as well as exclusive songs and surprises. Past packages have featured 7" singles, videos, a CD, as well as custom greeting cards from the band and office staff, posters, calendars, stickers, and a whole lot more. The 1998 package included a two-song video excerpted from R.E.M.'s performance at the Tibetan Freedom Concert. In 1999, the package featured a CD collaboration of two songs from the Bridge School Concert in San Francisco with Neil Young.. In 2000, R.E.M. recorded a Beatles' Fan Club-only song, "Christmas Time is Here Again," along with two original compositions compiled on 7" colored vinyl.

A bit more substantial than what is provided by the NPGMC, don't you think? And members get discounts, unlike, as shown with the recent ONA Live CD, where Prince actually charged his members more than those who bought it in the store.

David Bowie's club is also a better value, offers quarterly memberships or yearly, & gives you more benefits the longer you register. Free concerts, free CDs, & what's most impressive about Bowie's site compared to the current version of the NPGMC, is that CASUAL, NON-PAYING FANS CAN STILL ACCESS IT! There are members-only sections, but you don't have to enter your credit card info to just get in the door. You are better off with your pasta.

it aint moaning.
its called 'no kissing Prince's ass' & having an opinion which is valid.

i love Prince's music.
not his ability 2 hire someone who can put 2gether Atari-esque graphics & make u pay 2 use a chat room & msg board when we can do that here 4 free.

its $40au...& since P hasnt toured here in 11 years & wont any time soon.
concert benefits r useless.
if u have 2 join up 2 use the retail site, then u have 2 become a 'fan club' member 2 buy his latest releases.

err,no.

Actually, "moaning" is not offensive. It's a means of expressing one's opinion. As I did.
"Kissing Prince's ass" is actually offensive. So maybe it's you not respecting my opinion.
Wasn't insulting anyone here.

I don't agree with many things Prince has done, but maybe you missed my point here...

I'm not saying Prince's club is the best (Bowie's is incredibly better, no doubt, and REM too).

I'm just saying it's an average club, there are worse clubs around, and it charges for admission
like many other clubs.

And although you don't seem to get all that much this year, my point is this: 25$ and 0$ is exactly
the same. I'm not richer with 25 more nor poorer with 25 less, so I'll pay them anyway if only for old
times' sake.

Damn, if you catch me on a good day I'm ready to pay 25$ for a goddamn Britney Spears fan club!

And if it's a REALLY good day I'll pay them for a shausler fan club!

Dunno. I'm fine with the $25 part. They promised virtually nothing for that, so I spent it knowing not to expect much. I've had enough fun already to justify that, though I'm certainly hoping for more music.
