So Whats The NPGMC deal?

As someone who has never been in the NPGMC but was looking forward to joining this year cuz of all the stuff u guys got last year, i am now a little confused? The membership fee is alot cheaper this year but is it worth what u get? I don't have a PC of my own (i use the ones at uni) so cyberclips and stuff don't do much to excite me. The site makes no mention of any exclusive access to new albums or stuff, like with ONA last year. Is it worth it guys?

Also, does anybody know when this DVD will be out? Will it be available on multi-region?

to actually answer your question - no, the club hasn't told us that we're going to get any music. and so far, we haven't (except for a 3-minute song that we can only refer to as "reflection" b/c that's the room it's located in...sweet song, but it was taken off 3 or 4 days after the debut of the club and replaced by 3 songs from one of the ahdio shows from year one, and which are all 3 released on official albums ANYway).

if you don't care for the "cyberclips" (and why should you, really, since they are supposedly going to be released on dvd "soon" anyway?) and don't feel like paying for a slightly souped-up yet totally sanitized version of the org, i would say you should definitely NOT join this year.

of course, that might change..at which point, you could always change. anyone else remember back when prince used to release music? ah, the good old days...

"back when Prince used to release music?" So like 5 months go by since a cd release and all of a sudden Prince no longer releases music?

You know if it wasn't for the org I would've never known the NPGMC was back up...I never got an email and I was a member last year. As for joining this year? I'll do what I did last year and wait until a tour is announced or an album release date before I join.

I think they learned from experience. If they say from the beginning that you'll get X,Y and Z if you join then now they have specific expectations to live up to. Then they've gotta deal with Prince changing his mind about a particular release that they've already told the members about, or they've gotta deal with a flood of emails about when is the next CD gonna be released, what's it gonna be, I joined for a world tour so when's he coming to Australia, etc...

.

Now if they just say, join for $25 and you'll get what you get, then it's alot easier for them. Granted it'd be nice fo the members to know what's coming, but I'll guess we'll just have to wait and see.

If you don't have a computer don't join. Last year would have made sense to join without a computer, but this year they are basically giving you access to a chat room, forums, and an occasional videoclip.

On the other hand if he tours (which I doubt) signing up would be a good idea if just for better seats.

well, for starters, i'm ALL about hyperbole. smile

also, back in the "good old days," 5 months was a long time to go without a single with a non-album b-side, or a video, or a related artist album, or hell, another album period. and there's no mention of any upcoming music on the site or anywhere else, and we all know that the period of time from when prince first announces an album and the actual release has grown longer and longer in recent years.

so am i disappointed in the fact that prince could release TONS of music and make TONS of money for himself and spread TONS of joy to his fans, all without doing any work or recording anything (talking about the vault), yet this seemingly is never gonna happen? yes, quite disappointed.

i wish people wouldn't act like i was attacking their God when i say anything negative about prince...(not saying that you specifically are one of those people, universaluv...you simply posted your opinion and there ain't nothing wrong with that). oh wait, i AM attacking their God. BLASHPEMERS!!! wink) hehe.

I understand what you're saying, and for the record I don't worship Prince. I just think that people have a somewhat distorted memory about how much music we actually got back in the "good ol' days".

I mean just last December most of us got Xpectation and the 3-CD set of ONA live. Several months before that we got the ONA demo. So in about a year's time we get 5-cd's worth of music from Prince. Virtually no other artists come anywhere near that. And I don't ever remember Prince doing that back in the WB days. Back then in a typical year we'd get one album, a couple of half-assed videos, a couple of b-sides and something lame from Mazarati or 3 O'clock. Now folks can and will argue about the quality, but personally I think the quantity has shot up considerably over the past few years.

Sure Prince could open up the vault and release all the songs, demos, Prince-farts etc.. that we all crave so much, but good ol' days Prince never did that and he still doesn't.
