A new contest for NPGMC Members!

I invite all lucky 2003 NPGMC Members to enter a new contest! Just tell us the number of hours that you've spent frustratingly trying to get those precious cybervids to work properly. Whoever has logged the most wasted time, without actually viewing the material, will be declared the winner.

All entries must be received by 0600am PST, Friday,April 25th, 2003. The winner will receive my deepest sympathy.

The 75mb file took me 7 hours to DL...happily I was able to view it in full afterwards.

TheMax...were you finally able to view the vids???

Not long at all, because I decided to wait and I got the cable modem in a couple of days, so then I used the medium stream and got a decent view with maybe 1 buffering.

Unfortuntely though, I have the 98 Windows and not the 98SE so I am not able to download the Macro Media 9 which is compatible with the Windows 98SE and not Windows 98. So I can see the only video that is offered for 7.1 Macro Media, and that is Pop Life, I do not have access to the other videos.

It is possible to download the videos onto your harddisc ... it might take a while if you download the highest quality files, but once you've got them you can view them as many times as you like without a stutter.

I used a proggie called Teleport Pro, entered the URLs of the vids, and went to work. By the time I came back I'd got all vids in small, medium and large.

No problem here. EVERYTHING works good. Basic cable Internet, a 1-year old basic HP PC, and no download programs.

Update: 9 hours - no action. And that's with a broadband connection. Maybe I'm sucking wind with Windows 98?

I am delighted to report that I won my own contest! At least 9 hours of misery to see roughly 12 minutes of video. It's over. I have conquered the NPGMC barriers with the help of my fellow orgers - thank you!

Here's what FINALLY worked for me:
  • First, I downloaded a fresh copy of Win Media Player 9. As it turns out, my computer was trying to use version 7.
  • Second, I decided to try the download approach using RealDownload - of course that required a separate download of the free demo program as well. But unlike a lot of the download facilitating programs, this one was very straightforward to use.
  • Finally, I inserted the URL's for each video in the RealDownload program, et voila - huge video files saved to my vanishing hard drive that I can run at any time without the endless portals at the NPGMC site.

To me, it's ironic. I never wanted to download the video files - something Prince apparently didn't want either (this time around) - but the new site doesn't perform the way that it should, so paying, devoted members are forced to misbehave just to be able to see them.

For the record, I thought last year's Club was a bargain. I received vastly more than $100 worth of value from my membership. This year, it's different. The much lower sum really does feel more like a donation, or maybe a down payment, toward an artist who still has so much to offer. So think of me as an investor, Prince.

It didn't take but 20-30 minutes a piece. I downloaded them at work on the T1 line and just burned them. I refused to try to download them on dial up.

The perfect amalgamation of Prince.org ingenuity and NPGMC/Pixius incompetence. At least now I know what Prince means by "willing to do the Work." Damn!

After perusing the message board (u tell us) area of the NPGMC, I'm even more awed by Ben and his vision for this site. The "u tell us" section, as with other areas of the site, remains overburdened and overwrought. We've got it very good here at the org.

I'll admit it, it's been harder for me lately. On the one hand, I'm at this site because I've been inspired by the musical vision, expression, and genius of Prince. You know, real music by real musicians. Don't know about you, but I get chills watching the Nikka Costa "Push & Pull" clip. Prince is a treasure - he blows me away time and time again. But that love is severely tested (once again) at the NPGMC. The video-game graphics, lack of musical focus, and poor function are a major diconnect from the musical legacy created by Prince. I can't believe they derive from the same man - sort of the way I feel about the movie Under The Cherry Moon.

In my opinion, the "NPGMC" should emphasize what Prince does best - the "M." Otherwise, it may be more truthful (we're into the TRUTH, right) to label it the NPG-JC-C. No thanks.

It took about 20 minutes using DAP and broadband (DSL). All four videos downloaded and burned to dvd disk. Now I play them and other videos on any DVD player. HAH!
The dvd burn took some time. I'm not sure how long. I just let it go all night long!!!

exactly. i don't know about y'all, but i didn't join because i thought it was NEW, i didn't join because i thought it was POWERful, i think GENERATION is one of prince's cheesiest names ever, and CLUB? well, that's something i usually reserve for baby seals. wink [not REALLY!]

now they apparently responded to an email shausler sent by saying that they made it very clear on the sign-up page not to expect any music. that's pretty ridiculous. and what's even more so is that some sheep'll prolly respond to this and say, "it's true, they didn't" - BAAAHHH...
