Thanx 4 the info, nl06645, u must've gone 2 a lot of trouble 2 look that all up!
But I have 2 say, Im totally with Velvetsplash on this one.
It's one thing 2 want 2 TALK 2/with people about your beliefs, but this is starting 2 get a little out of hand I feel - it's starting 2 come across now more as: 'this is the way forward - follow me, let me show u the way thru what Ive learned'.
Im an atheist (or 2 put a more specific point on it, Im more of a spiritual inclination) ...so does that make me a bad person? Oh, and Im Gay 2 - does this mean Im gonna burn in fire & brimstone 4 all eternity? mad
I digress, what Im trying 2 say is that u can put across your thoughts, idealologies, and belief systems in a way that is non-judgemental - I can think of one Orger in particular on here that is a Jehovas Witness, and I have a lot respect 4, because they know this, and respect others beliefs. hug
I respect Prince.
I respect people's belief systems.
But I just get very annoyed when people feel the NEED 2 force it down people's throats.
Everybody knows where a church is if they need it, u dont need ANY religion trying 2 sell themselves 2 u on your doorstep.

I dunno, disbelief He'll be wanting us 2 burn his bloody records next! rolleyes

The NPGMC club/website is NOT filled/or scattered throughout with religious beliefs. It is contained in one room titled Knowledge. The room is there is you want to enter it and access the Bible passages. It's not really forcing you to read the the passages, nor is Prince or the NPGMC doing this in a judgemental way.

If I were to list a few verses or passages from the Bible that I found interesting here at the org that doesn't mean that I feel everyone MUST agree with them. Also there have been fans that have expressed an interest in learning more about the Bible,so maybe the room could be looked at it as a room for those people.

nl06645 was interested in the passages and he/she looked them up and wanted to share what he/she learned from them. There is nothing wrong with sharing or spreading God's word.

I also believe that each and every person is entitled to believe or not believe in God. That doesn't mean that I disrespect anyone or don't care about their feelings. We should try to love and respect everyone. grouphug

Yeah well, in the first place, they're only the passages Prince offers, they are not my opinion. I just thought that there is hardly anyone who takes the time to go through all that, but still nearly every orger is interested in what he's trying to say. So yeah, I took the time to look them up, make a summary and post them on .org.nod
Whether I agree whith them or not is not the issue, it's just a summary of those verses, of what he trying to tell us.hmmm

IMHO he's just letting us inside his head/heart/life, isn't that what we're always looking for?woot!
To me it doesn't seem forced, it's everyones free choise to enter the room, let alone to look up the verses, not even mentioning what you think of them yourself. Prince is not even telling what he thinks of them, just that those topics are covered in the Bible by those verses.

Think of it what you may...

I think if u re-read my post, u will find that not only was I NOT disrespecting ANYONE - or their beliefs (and that includes Orger nl06645, who I even THANKED 4 researching this thread, and posting the info). I think at the very least we owe them 2 start a thorough discourse in light of the info they have gone 2 so much trouble in unearthing. (As apposed 2 NO replies on their thread. I think they would agree...) but I was simply stating MY PERSONAL thoughts on this matter. Not YOURS - but MINE.
This doesn't mean that u have 2 agree with whatever I may or may not say, and I totally respect that.

However, I DO take issue with the fact that u seem 2 put across in your post that I am ignorant of what has been posted here. I am not.

I suggest re-reading the thread once more, and re-evaluating your previous posting. reading

Bananacologne, you are ASSUMING that my ENTIRE post was in response to your post! It was NOT. The love and respect comment was made because of another comment on this thread. Can you guess which one I thought was a bit disrespectful Bananacologne! And another thing where in the h*ll did I say that you were ignorant of what was posted here. DON'T put words in my mouth! Maybe you need to wear eyeglasses.

hey tonguebox, do you mind sharing with the rest of us which post you thought was disrespectful? i can only assume you mean velvetsplash, but then again, i can't really believe you'd find his/her post "disrespectful" to you or to nl06645...

did you mean disrespectful to prince? well, to be quite honest, i feel that prince doesn't respect gays such as myself (or women anymore, for that matter), so although i respect him as a musician, i don't respect his views, most of which are apparently "based" on his version of the bible.

therefore, as far as i'm concerned i (and anyone else) have every right to comment on prince's religious views in any way we choose, especially on the org (the FREE prince website, in more ways than one). if prince can tell his former friends, "fuck all y'all" in song, then surely velvetsplash can question where his priorities are, right?

since we're on the topic of respect, let me say that i don't intend any "disrespect" to anyone here. i just feel pretty strongly about prince's current dogma and the unhappiness and intolerance that it helps propagate.

While I'm definitely not JW or Christian, I feel that in a sense, my religion has saved my life. If P has similar experience, I can understand why he would want to share it with others. I think he means well.

Blueangel, Hi, I don't think you should assume that Prince disrespects gays. I've never seen or heard anything that would give me that impression. Just because he goes by the bible doesn't mean he is against gays.

I attended a concert last year, where there was a gay couple holding hands in the second row in a pit and Prince talked to them in a friendly way from the stage.

Thankyou for posting these, because I was going to look them up myself. Thankyou for your trouble.

If Prince wants to share these scriptures that is up to him, you can choose wether to read them or not.

lovebird, was that at the lakeland show? if so, i was half of that gay couple! wink
i was very happy with the way that he acted towards us, i agree. that concert was BEYOND amazing, in SO many ways.

there are some lyrics in "the war" that are pretty highly suspect, if you ask me..."hiv, they say there's a cure, i'm not sure...every seed, fruit to bear" - in particular that last line smacks of "adam and eve, not adam and steve" juvenile thought.

hey, maybe i'm wrong about that - i can be pretty sensitive, that's for sure. i guess what i really should have said is something more along the lines of: "what makes prince's opinion more worthy of respect than mine?" - or something. i don't know, it's monday morning wink)

TongueBox, correct - I DID assume, and I apologise - Im only human.
However, I did not say that u SAID I was ignorant, that was how it was percieved in context. Now within a different light, that context has changed. But the majority of my post and its points still stand, regardless. Was not a personal 'attack' on yourself, so would feel bad if u took it that way.
