My thoughts on the club

Just some thoughts...

I am impressed that there was obviously time and thought put into the design of the site. It is very different than most web sites out there (for better or worse), and the fact that it is at least unique in design and scope warrants merit.

Even the fact that we've already gotten an "apology" e-mail is great in my book. At least it gives the impression that we're being taken seriously as members of the club and not taken from granted like it seemed last year from May through November.

I do like that the site has an aura of mystery about it and it is inticing to explore. I do think, however, that it will get old quickly. I can only click on that cloud guitar and hear that lick so many times before I start wondering why I'm not doing something better with my time.

I don't like that it is difficult to find your way to certain areas of the site that you'd like to revisit. I know people have site maps posted out there, but come on...if I want to get to the Vault rooms it takes me 15 minutes to find them.

I definitely don't like this streaming audio stuff. And I have a DSL connection and can handle the large files. Streaming audio bites.

I don't like the retail section. Different links on the main retail page take you to the exact same section. I counted at least two places where I clicked and got info about those sold out Xenophobia candles. And two different places took me to clothing/hats. I like the way it looks and sounds, but not the way it functions. With web sites, I'll take functional over fun any day.

And there are certainly more of Prince's ramblings and opinions on the site than there is music. That's fine, but in reality it's the official web site for one of the world's greatest musicians, and if you pay to join the site there isn't much music to listen to at all. Instead, you can read what I felt was a rather hypocritical statement about artists who record covers of other artists' songs. Huh??

I can see where Prince may want to protect his image or not appear vane or what have you, but I still can't believe that the site is nearly completely void of photos of the artist who owns the site, aside from album covers and stuff in the retail section.

And I do not like that there is a VIP room within the club. I paid my membership fee. I enter my username and password to get into the site. And then I'm supposed to enter another username and password to get access to a part of a site that's already restricted to members only? I don't get it.

Finally, my biggest disappointment is platform compatibility. I have yet to hear another OS X user say that they have been able to view the video files on the site, and the chat is very quirky in OS X. I realize that Windows is the most popular platform out there, but there were no notices about platform compatibility issues when I paid my membership fee. My very polite e-mail to the club regarding this issue have not been responded to.

Overall, I am of course glad the club is back and I'm happy to support it. But it's still not the site I'd hoped for.

Hopefully, they will go in occassionally and change it just to keep us guessing.

Not quite 15 but yeah I get your point

I definitely don't like this streaming audio stuff. And I have a DSL connection and can handle the large files. Streaming audio bites.

Haven't been able to access them yet either, I should just be able to point click and watch, but I buffer forever..

Well I really don't care about that section anyway, let's see what happens when the new stuff comes out.

where was that at???

more pictures recent ones would be great and of course change them occassionally to keep us busy. nod

waiting to see if the tickets will be sold there or vip password shows up in email or something...

OH YEAH maybe that is my problem too but I am running windows XP home edition on a 4 month old computer, I should have no problems?? but who knows right?

Overall, I am of course glad the club is back and I'm happy to support it. But it's still not the site I'd hoped for.
I like the site in general

I like the site. I think it is fun, but for the first few days I could get in the site on my Aol server and I got a bigger picture on my screen. Now for some reason it won't let me in the gate through Aol I have to use Internet Explorer and now I can't get the whole picture of the room on my screen all at once. Anybody know if there is a way I can go back to using the Aol?

It's in the section of the site that also has previous "editorials" from the old NPGMC site -- some are titled "The Real Chicken Grease" and "The Death of Cool." I can't remember which one specifically talked about cover songs off hand.

Glad the club is back.

However, frankly its a bit lame.

I'm in it for teh music, and surely they'll be some at some point.

The rest doesn't interest me.

Maybe my impressions are colored by the fact that I STILL CAN'T SEE THE F@#$*ING VIDEOS (my latest achievement: smooth audio streaming, but no images whatsoever), but I'm largely unimpressed.

I didn't join the Club to see more cartoon-fantasy graphics or play video games. As a slave to his music, I want information that I can actually use and enjoy:
  • real news from PP
  • celebration 2003 info
  • upcoming CD/DVD previews
  • photos
  • useful chats
  • concert news and presale events

So please, Prince, skip the dungeons n' dragons graphics and new-age surrealism. To me, the site looks well-suited for 6th graders. I came for the FUNK (you know, the part of the site that DOESN'T WORK!)

If you move your curser to the very far bottom right of the screen, there is a blue arrow that will appear that you can click on that will allow you to skip the entire intro and to directly to the login screen.

You are a smarter cat (ha ha...get it?) than me...I can't get streaming audio or video in the cyberclips room...and for that matter I've e-mailed the club for assistance six days ago and I'm still waiting for a response. Also posted a "please help" message in the U Tell Us forum with zero responses.

Agree...

Yep...lol

Dunt bother me...I wish I could get from the bathroom to the kitchen here at home quicker, too, but oh well...

I definitely don't like this streaming audio stuff. And I have a DSL connection and can handle the large files. Streaming audio bites.

A-stinkin-men

I don't like the retail section. Different links on the main retail page take you to the exact same section. I like the way it looks and sounds, but not the way it functions. With web sites, I'll take functional over fun any day.

I noticed that, too...but it's an amazingly small thing to deal with (in my eyes, anyway)...

And there are certainly more of Prince's ramblings and opinions on the site than there is music. That's fine, but in reality it's the official web site for one of the world's greatest musicians, and if you pay to join the site there isn't much music to listen to at all. More music would be great, yes...

I can see where Prince may want to protect his image or not appear vane or what have you, but I still can't believe that the site is nearly completely void of photos of the artist who owns the site, aside from album covers and stuff in the retail section.

He's definitely been on a "don't worship anyone but God" kick lately, so that might 'splain why he doesn't have his image plastered everywhere...

And I do not like that there is a VIP room within the club. I paid my membership fee. I enter my username and password to get into the site. And then I'm supposed to enter another username and password to get access to a part of a site that's already restricted to members only? I don't get it.

lol...Neither do I...

Unfortunately, OS users have usually been ignored when it comes to many things online...I guess npgmc is yet one more (it's one reason why I have both a Mac and a PC at home..lol)

Overall, I am of course glad the club is back and I'm happy to support it. But it's still not the site I'd hoped for.

Can understand your feelings...although I'm fine with it so far (other than the streaming videos...even with DSL it sucks)...I'm optimistic that more music will make it's way onto the site and into the club soon enough...in the mean time, I just enjoy the visuals and listen to "Reflection" and enjoy... smile
