I know that there are fans out there who dont agree, and feel that they would pay $100, and get nothing in return and they would be just as happy. Or, they would be happy getting whatever Prince mailed to them, whenever he finally got around to it. That's fine, but it's not reasonable to expect the majority to be that free with our money, especially when a specific product is promised and not delivered on.

well said. fans that don't expect anything when promises are made and money is paid are fanatical fools.

I'll ad my .02 cents.

I did not joint year 1 because I was on dial-up internet with a slow computer. Downloading music just was not an option for me. Consequentially, I have never heard most of the music from year 1.

I very much looked foreward to year 2 with the announcement of pressed cds being sent out. I was unlikely to be able to take advantage of any "maybe" soundcheck or concert opportunities. The real value of the club was in the 4 cds of exclusive music.

Having gone thru many of 1-800 New funk/Prince fiascos, I was a little skeptical he would deliver on this seemingly "too good to be true" promise. I decided to wait and see. NPGMC had sent out questionaires about the possibility of there being 4 "quartly" cd editions of the NPGMC being sent out thru the year, though this plan was never "officially" announced, it was clearly the intention.

ONA piano cd came out on schedule, things looked good. Some said it was pretty short. Some said it sounded like demos. Some said it sucked, some loved it. But it was "Exclusive", new music. Granted, many tracks were from year 1 downloads. Since I did not get any year 1 songs, this was fine by me.

I decided to wait and see what the second quarter brought before I made my $100 committment. Sadly, 8 months passed with no new cd being delivered. Near the end of December, we learned that the 3 remaining cds were not the promised titles of new "exclusive" music as advertised in the tour books. Rather, the club members would get a 3 cd "live" set. Hmmm, not what I expected, but it is 3 more cds, and it is new and exclusive to the club, right? Unfortunately, NO. This set was going to be sold at stores, many memebrs would not get thier set until AFTER it was on the store shelves, a MAJOR dissappointment that I could identify with from the Crystal Ball fiasco. Also, to ad insult to injury, the store edition cost averaged to about $39.00 in my area. That would mean the value of the piano cd would be about $61.00 Doesn't sound like a deal to me.

I never did join the club. Nor did I complain to any BBB (how could I? I never joined.) But I AM upset that I got my hopes up for the 4 new "exclusive" cds, a promise that was not kept. And I am upset that Prince's business is still getting away with this kind of business practice after all these years. Had I joined, and gotten ONA piano, and the ONA Live 3cd set for $100, I would not have been happy, as that was not the spirit, intention, or promise of the club and it's advertising.

All that boils down to is that... I guess I am a little happy that the NPGMC is closed down for now. If Prince can't play fair, he shouldn't play at all. If you make a committment, you must follow thru. All the rest of the world has jobs and committments they must meet. Just because one man is a rich musician, doesn't mean he is immune to the rules.

I am just as anxious for new Prince music as anyone, but not putting my hopes and expectations into the hands of Prince and his business associates, I'm probably happier, and less frustrated.

I know that there are fans out there who dont agree, and feel that they would pay $100, and get nothing in return and they would be just as happy. Or, they would be happy getting whatever Prince mailed to them, whenever he finally got around to it. You make
good points and I won't go to far into this any more, but I will say that in the past I ordered from 1-800-NEW-FUNK...posters,CD's,etc. I never personally never had any problems with receiving any items...maybe you or others did, and that sucks but I did not. Last October when joining NPGMC I more than had what I was promised fullfilled by early December...even had a few e-mails from NPGMC to make sure I got what I needed. They e-mailed me in advance to let me know that Prince would be on Jay Leno and if I responded early enough I could go to the filming...You reminded me of something that I forgot to mention in my earlier posts...I got to go to the soundcheck in Vegas as well as the show and aftershow...I guess my piano CD came out to much less than $61 huh...I did have to pay extra for my concert ticket but before trying to do this thru NPGMC, the same I amount I paid this last time for the main show got me into the first 40 rows so 5th row was very satisfying! The aftershow didn't cost me anything but $100 to non members...I was happy and satisfied...Woops there I go rambling on again...Peace to you bro...maybe one day Prince will have an organization which will satisfy every single fan or fam or whatever but you always get a few peeps that aren't completely happy...

Don't get me wrong, I've been a Prince fan for almost 20 years now. I have a pretty huge collection of his music and memorabilia. The past several years have tested my appreciation of him.

I'm not gonna list all the incidents in detail (NPG Magazine, Jersey, CB, etc...). But these kind of incidents have begun to overshadow, at least my own, appreciation of him and his music.

With projects like RoadHouse Garden, Prince may announce a possible new album then back out of it, and its his own business. He didn't have any financial or ethical obligation to follow through with it. He was just throwing an idea around and sharing it with fans.

When fans start paying $100 per person in advance, I think some of us also expect a more solid game plan. If he's going to display some albums in the tourbook, and promise a retail section exploding with new merchandise, and chat(s, plural, not just the one we had at the transition from year 1 to year 2), then he should follow through and do these things.

I wrote letters to NPGMC throughout the year from time to time basically inquiring whats up, and generally only got vague uninformative replies. Looking at other people's posts the same thing happened to other members as well.

People wrote letters to the BBB after they attempted to get some clear information from NPGMC directly first.

I'm not standing outside of pailey park with a burning torch wanting to run the place into the ground. Some fans were basically saying "we dig you and want to support your music but this is getting kind of ridiculous".

While it may not seem fair to those who enjoyed the club and felt it was worth every penny. It's also not fair to those unhappy with the club, who payed money as well, to not be able to express their concerns.

We approached the club first with our comments, and when in mid december it seemed our concerns were falling on deaf ears or being disregarded alltogether, some of us sought other means.

Clear correspondence throughout the year, not short cryptic princebonics messages, would have been appreciated by many and perhaps prevented all of this in the first place.

Last August or so the site began to announce the upcoming ONA Live set. There was even a flash ad for it. Various emails and posts suggested that the ONA Live set ultimately took longer than planned to finish up and get out to members.

Now put yourself in his shoes for a moment. You've got all these paying members, its been months without any new music, the next project is delayed and your about 3/4 of the way through NPGMC year 2. You've also got butloads of music sitting around on the shelf. Wouldn't August, September, perhaps even October been a great time to throw some downloads up on the site, such as Xpectation? After all, fans are starting to email you wondering whats up.

The BBB listing is a record of some members experience by Mid December. In fact it clearly explains that.

Xpectation and CNote were released after the fact, and seemingly in response to, our comments. They're great tracks and I'm glad the club eventually took some steps to resolve or respond to our concerns.

Businesses don't typically shut down as soon as someone mails them a nasty comment card or writes a complaint to the BBB or a local newspaper. Far worse has been said and done to Prince throughout his career; harsh reviews, labels screwing him over, etc. And he didn't close shop and stop making music then.

If NPGMC reorganizes into a more reliable company as a result, or if Prince comes up with a less troublesome way of distributing his music, then we can all benefit. If they're gonna slam the door on fans and pout, then that says more about them than us.

If $100.00 was so hard for you to come up with. Maybe you need to get a better job and stop blaming Prince for your short comings!!!

Let's say the club had 10.000 members worldwide. Then that is 1 MILLION dollars in gross revenue for the "NPG", not including the concert sales, with prices that had inflated about 400 % since his last tour, making them a couple of millions more.

But then they come up with such a customer service? And then they can't even send cd's out on time?
they can't keep the promise of exclusivity either?
You think that comment about the money hurts people? It doesn't say anything besides that you are biased.

To tell you the truth huggy, I wasn't trying to hurt anyone with that comment. I just don't see what the big deal, over $100 bucks is...For me that was the best $100 bucks I've every spent and all I got was the "ONA" box set, but having the chance to go to afterparties and having the best seats in the house that was priceless.

Think about it, do you know what those kind of tickets would cost through a scapler...I'm talking $300 - $400. And so what if Prince made millions, he's damm talented and he deserves every cent.

Prince didn't force any of you people to join...you joined the club of your own feel will,

and prince CONtracted at his own free will just the same.

and you got what you got.

apparanetly some people still don't have their cd's.

It doesn't say anything besides that you are biased.

most people are biased in this conversation huggy...aren't you?

the funny thing is pejman that when I was younger I used to "defend"prince through thick and thin, even if what he ahd one was simply not right.

last year showed where his priorities truly are and they are not customer service or keeping promises. they are largely just simply making more money.

you wanna have the last word Haystack? Are you amused by all this NPGMC mumbo jumbo...smile

No, but I just liked the fact that you and Tom made-up at the end.

The NPGMC 2002 is gone, now. None of us can know the absolute truth about why the Club is no longer operating, but I do feel that it would be nice if we all moved on and regarded the whole 'NPGMC 2002 was great/was crap' situation as something in the past that we'll never agree on. If we carry on arguing about it, it will simply cause bad feeling amongst us and we don't need that. Perhaps we should all start looking forward to whatever comes next, relating to Prince or otherwise. I wasn't particularly happy with the Club and would never join again if it comes back in it's present format. But if it does, then that's all the better for those people who enjoyed it. And anybody who didn't like the Club who joins again... Well, that would be a bit silly wouldn't it?

Just typing out my thoughts, and sounding like Aura trying to bring Prince and Morris together.

Oh my God! I'm using Graffiti Bridge as a reference. Aaaargh!

Final Words:
I agree with all the above - and it's great feelin the love here that we can get over differences of opinion! u guys rock hug

All Id like 2 say 2 maybe finish this thread is the most important thing is that NPGMC/Prince/Paisley/Whoever - LEARNS reading from this experience - I 4 one would be SO increadibly impressed if NPGMC were 2 come back from this (as apposed 2 sulking and walking away...IF that is the case - it may not be - maybe they've simply put the club on hold TO address these problems) and say: 'ok, look - we hold our hands up: this, this, and this happened - some people in the minority were'nt happy, but those issues have now been addressed, and lessons learnt, and we now have a better, and improved service 4 ALL of u'. Now THAT would be kool... here's hoping pray

SO STAY POSITIVE!!! 'Dont kiss the beast...be superior at least...'

I can't believe people would actually complain to the BBB about the NPGMC. Geez people, you most likely ruined the club for everyone else. AND any chance of a Celebration. Next time, just don't join if you are going to act like complete morons.
