The only thing I think the fan community needs is an official, content filled site for purchasing music and videos, news of upcoming shows/projects and even if Prince wants to post the occasional navel gazing essay, that's okay too....
I will take you at your word that you are doing other things with your time besides getting entrenched in Princey world. As long as you stay focused on learning and making the most of your talents, there's no telling how far you can go in life because you carry yourself very well. I'm happy to hear that you have your priorities in order.
You remind me a bit of my oldest son when he was your age and I'd love to hear what your plans are for your future. You can orgnote me if you'd rather not broadcast your biz on this thread.
Best of luck. Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

Prince's fan-base is very varied, and like you, Jester, I'm a new/younger fan who didn't experience all the highs and, more importantly in this context, the lows that have affected the sense of community. A venue that works with--rather than against--these differences seems like it would come, as others have already said, in the form of single, stable, frequently-updated official website; no frills and no need for an artist-controlled discussion board. * I get where you're coming from, but then I wonder/worry that maybe we've missed the boat somehow? I also worry that the financial/marketing motivation behind an increased online presence might eclipse the presumably different motivation behind a Prince-organized fan community. I'm sounding pretty defeatist and I guess atypical for my age group...haha... but it's hard to figure out how to engage with an artist who, as others have said, has made a distance between us and him intrinsic to his brand. For any gesture to feel genuine on Prince's part and, in a way, match the closeness one feels from listening to his music, it kind of needs to come from him no matter how awesome everyone's suggestions might be. * I'm pretty late in the game with social media (in fact, joining the Org is my first foray into Internet communities, Lord help me... ), but I'm increasingly seeing the value of these virtual connections and you've definitely played a part in that, Jester. Maybe I'll also graduate to other social media and we'll reconnect there.

Interesting. NPGMC was definitely a community. Just like this site though, not everyone was happy with everything about that site, i.e., music output, ticket prices, the way the forums were run, but then there were many that did enjoy the NPGMC; the pre-sale tix for members or discounted tix for members before concert tix went on sale to the general public, and often times the tix sold to members were for seats close to the stage/front row seats. Also allowing members entry to shows first;online single purchases, etc.

U guys. Jester, me and alot of members and ex members have created a community of network on facebook and twitter. Prince.org is great and should always be there because its a constant in ourlives but unfortunately it isn't the best for everything and alot of die hards don't come on here at all anymore. On facebook we don't hide behind user names and we don't hide our real lives and we come together.
join my facebook group and many others. Make REAL FRIENDS. get attactive guys. and u'll see wat i mean.

Much of what you suggested he's already tried and was a complete failure.
The npgmc was Ok for a while but like everything he does, he gets bored and before you know it, it gets shut down. The forums on ngpmc were just lol, so many tool's kissing arse or fighting, moderators thinking they were god, it was a huge fail fest but fun to watch, one thing for sure official forums were a fail because of over censorship.
All he needs a solid website to sell music and videos which stays open for years with good customer care lol. Never gonna happen though.
The best we can hope is Ben pulls his finger out and updates the org to some modern software that works on mobile etc because the org will always be the main place for fans. Complaining about positivity. Interesting.

Caroke said: I don't feel the need to come together and hold hands while singing Resolution in a field of purple flowers, but in a way... I wish it could be a little bit more like that. The sometimes extreme negativity of a few people bothers me - and often takes away most the enthusiasm I initially had (before I came online). A while ago, I joined a forum dedicated to another artist - and even though it's not as big and about half the people there are over 55 - I loved the general atmosphere over there so much... They are positive but no ass-kissers and there's also nobody who consistently comments to criticize the music/the person/the latest addition to the band/etc... Anyway, I have a feeling I just have to get used to it here... and I'm still trying. Messageboards on an offical website (without paying membership) would be nice, but probably pretty hard to monitor (since many overactive moderators might find it hard to balance between avoiding extreme negativity and extreme censorship). What I think would be nice -although not necessary for me- is if Prince had some kind of official online presence... Just a site listing all announced tour dates and perhaps a section for news/announcements... Nothing too fancy, just basics. [Edited 5/23/13 2:55am] This site has had negativity since the absolute beginning. It's a blessing and a curse. However, I think some wanting it to change are wrong. It was like this when you got here and there are many opportunities for them to create a more positive site.

Sassey said: First I will say there are some great people in this community but there's also a small cancer cell of members who hurt the community. Allegedly Prince is the man behind the curtain, scheming and running his team like a multi-level marketing business. This is his biggest fan community but they're spreading out all over various social networking sites. I think the point of this thread is for Eyejester (and Prince) to find out what fans think and if he'll be able to steer members of this fan community over to his Prince2013 or some other official Prince website where there is only "Love4OneAnother" since Prince must think another Community better than prince.org needs to be developed. He allegedly leads a cult and wants certain fans to help him develop a bigger cult following. If this is true and I do think it is true, I'm only here to let him and his people know how much I oppose of the way he allows his “Fams/Purple People/” to promote him. It's very negative. I won't sit back and keep watching him and his people recruit fans like Shelbey and now Eyejester so they can become replacements for those who previously did his dirty work and are no longer a part of his organization. When certain people were a part of his staff they did irrevocable damage on this site and other social networking sites. Eyejester should be made aware of this and I hope he does tread carefully and doesn't fall under his spell. EyeJester said he can tell us Prince is concerned about his legacy and he's not some ruthless man, stripped from integrity but I'll believe it when I see otherwise since his actions speak louder than any megaphone. *
I know artists have always used models and fans but it seems like Prince still feels the need to objectify women, use certain fans as tools, and treat them badly when his fans are the ones who help him pay his bills. He has been late a few times with paying his taxes so I think his fan base could be slowly diminishing. He has a history of insulting and taunting people/fans in his music (Billy Jack Bitch, No More Candy, Box of Chocolates, etc) and I still don’t understand why he can't simply release music and allow the fans to enjoy it instead of always playing games and making things difficult. He must always be so secretive and deceiving to try to build up excitement for his new releases. For every new release his people use his personal relationships to promote his music. Maybe they think his personal life is more interesting than his music and this is why certain fans keep bringing it up and discuss it ad nauseam. Someone on his promo team should let him know the pimp daddy image doesn't look good on him and as his protégé list keeps getting longer and he keeps walking with the cane, it makes him look more and more suspect. No matter what anyone says there's a pattern of new "Fams" being chosen by Prince. After the fans get inducted into his...organization they are given free reign to praise him for things as ridiculous as his "mystique" which only reveals Prince has been trying to hide something he hasn't wanted people to know for a very long time, they encourage gossip, and some even speak on his behalf. * He takes the mystique thing way too far. Too much mystery can cause problems and by Prince just sitting back “laying in the cut”, he's created a problem. It became apparent to me that there is indeed “so many variations from the conscious of one” speaking for Prince and his foot soldiers work hard getting all of his messages out there. EyeJester is his latest recruit...actually "the GIRL” is his latest but Eyejester seems to be his new voice of reason. I personally think Eyejester is more enjoyable to listen to than drfunkenberry but still find it creepy the way Prince uses his fans to speak for him. He probably sees it as using them to promote him and no matter what they do or say (good or bad) he's still getting promotion and I'm sure Prince believes even if he loses he wins as he said in one of his recent releases. *
I think progression is needed but before there is progression, Prince needs to first take responsibility for the negativity he intiates and apologize for it. Some members, including the OP need to take off the purple blinders and stop trying to be obscure like Prince with rants about community development and telling people to check out their login history. I know I've logged in many time but unlike the OP who admits he was "literally addicted", "obsessed", and "came here religiously and stalked this place", I'm here because I am very angry with Prince and his people and I know the best way I could currently reach Prince is by joining his fan community, get MY message to him, and allow his fan community to bear witness. The OP posted the big picture of Prince holding the megaphone so I guess this Community In Development thread is just Jester being the human megaphone for what Prince wants to say but doesn't have to because he can get fans like him to rant for him. For those who don't get this "USE" thing, this thread is a good example of how fans, of their own free will become tools and 'megaphones' for him. Prince doesn't see anything wrong with how he and his people take advantage of obsessed fans who stalk this site like Eyejester admitted he used to do. I hope the OP and a few others realize Prince is the one who actually starts and encourages mystery, confusion, negativity and bickering in the Community. He is not straightforward about anything and everything must be a secret with him. I don't care how much "Love4OneAnother" verbiage him and his people spill. I feel it's only for promotional purposes and to try to make Prince look like he's a nice person but his actions always prove otherwise. Members of this community need to realize this and simply ignore members they disagree with instead of making assumptions about things they have no idea about. If they don't come to the realization there won't be much progression but there will be less members in this Prince fan Community. * When I first noticed Eyejester last year on this site he seemed like an obsessed but articulate, personable, nice young man who said and did all the right things to get Prince's people to contact him. Eventually they did contact him (it didn't really take very long, did it?) and he's now fulfilling his role, I assume. I'm not stating Prince is in fact leading a cult and wants his chosen members to help him further develop his cult but I will say after reading this thread, Eyejester comes off as confusing, mysterious, and like he's now here as a foot soldier doing market research and development for Prince. Instead of using his fans to handle his business I think Prince should pay a professional publicist like I should probably pay my attorney instead of coming to his fan Community to give him a chance to apologize and clean up his act before a Judge makes him clean it up. It's obvious I really don't want to formally press charges on Prince or any of his Fams/Purple people but I will if he gives me no other choice. Until I get an apology from him I will be all over the internet and in every Prince fan Community like a next-door neighbor raising hell with my volume up full blast. Whoever has a "problem" with me will need to get over it like some fans think I'm suppose to just get over what Prince and his "Fams/Purple People/" did to me. * Lastly, if certain fans in this community such as 2elijah and 1725topp can post long essays I can too. Every member has the choice to read or not read, to reply or not reply. I'm not even looking for any replies to anything I post. I only want to make sure Prince is aware of everything I post. After reading the OP's rant and seeing the big picture of Prince with the megaphone I'm sure he's aware.

Purpleaxxe1972 said: Wow, very interesting reading today. I think we need a site like this, where we can all voice our opinions openly, as opposed to an artist run site where our words would be filtered to the point where the message(s) get lost, or deleted altogether because the expression voiced is completely negative or hurtful to the artist. I appreciate the .org as it is. I don't think it's a good idea for everyone here to make a mass exodus to a Prince run site for the reasons stated. Eye jester, long time no hear dude! [Edited 5/23/13 11:45am] I agree with your post for the most part. There would be no mass exodus to a Prince-run site just as there was no mass exodus to NPGMC. Even those who complain about how negative this site is came back here after that site closed.

It's funny how every fan who gets involved with Prince one way or another starts writing and acting so mysteriously. Suddenly the ability to write straight forward texts is gone. Is it due to the man himself wanting it that way or people getting bedazzled by his purple magic? Is it some "I've met and worked with Prince and now I have to be like him"-syndrome? Or perhaps it's P's personal opinion voiced through his messengers?

This site is weird: dump on the positive. Dump on the negative. Maybe his style hasn't changed but it is verbose. Plus he dropped hints without explaining further. Why did he ask these questions? And what's he doing with the answers? [Edited 5/31/13 5:08am] ...every night another symphony...

I didn't mean to say he's changed his whole style, I just meant what Superconductor wrote. I congratulated Jester when he was picked and have no reason to just "dump the negative" on him out of jealousy. It's just an observation I have made that people surrounding Prince, including "normal" fans, tend to sound more mysterious and....unspecific... while somehow being part of the camp.
Would be nice to get a response from him regarding his ideas.

Co-sign Tremolina and Babynoz. And add the following thoughts: Prince already has such a website. It is called 3rdeyegirl. He also launched Prince2013.com but is not using it. IMO the purple camp has been creating a lot of publicity (hype) rather than a true connection with fans. The paper chase around this livestream site is the latest example. I don't think there is a grand plan or scheming by Prince or his camp. It looks all rather ad hoc and experimental so far. ...every night another symphony...
