DFUNK

Dayumm!!!

Perhaps the man listens to his fans sometimes. This is all shaping up to be a good year for Prince fans the world over.

This Screwdriver biz certainly has me intrigued, and the samples we have heard so far, I believe is his best music in a number of years. Its like he has been re-envigorated or something.

A good live DVD is something Ive been after for a while. The bootleggers are making a pretty penny out of selling poor quality unofficial releases. The best way for Prince to put these guys out of business is to drop official releases occasionally. This Montreaux DVD is an awesome addition to any Prince fans collection. I wouldnt mind seeing one of the "Welcome 2" shows released as a DVD too. That probably wont happen though.

And that Andy Allo track? Good lord that is funky.

Ill be honest. My interest in Prince and his music had waned a little in recent years, and I have been very critical of things like 20Ten. But for the first time in a number of years, I am actually very exciting to see what Prince has in store for this year. Very excited.

I love this idea!

Than after a lot of bickering and fighting his fans choose a selection of what he gave us. We'll make an album of it, release it and put the profit in a fund.

For example a fund that supports projects for free and save education for girls around the world.

I think it's a good idea! And it hasn't been done before, so there will be media attention. For both Prince his music as for the fund for educating girls.

Very good idea. Somebody pitch it to Prince?

Some nuance because else Prince won't see the benefit. The kickstarter is for us to fill and he receives the money. He opens a reuqest for say $2.000.000 within a timeframe.

Everybody pitches in and receives something depending on the amount pitched.

($15 is album but $50 is cd+dvd, $100 is cd+dvd+written notes copy....$5000 is listening party included)...

He remains owner (ofcourse)

Possible profit is for him to decide when overbooked. I feel this is important because money and controle often seems to be the issue.

He can call/mail me for a pitch wink

Than we get physical copies of the CD or DVD, right?

And is the amount of 15$ irregard of where you live? Or do non-US citizens pay a different rate or shippingcosts?

And in what way is this better for his costumers than releasing a CD or DVD independently or via distribution channels like Bol.com, Amazon.com, or other of these sites?

I think the pivotal needs for a site are:

- Easy and different modes to pay from every country around the world.

- Deliverance to every country of the world.

- Easy and thoroughly tested content system, to buy physical items, as well as download possibilities.

- Contact forms and easy e-mail contact with service desks in case of problems with payement/delivery.

99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.

I will not be signing up for that bullshit.

I like the song though.

Why the fuck is it in Adobe Flash? lawd. Prince.... THIS IS 2013, not 1998!!!

I thought only the vids were in Flash and the site was in HTML5?

'dre

4 those on pc vimeo streams the files in flash (kind of fallback solution 4 old browsers) - 4 those on ipad or other mobile devices vimeo streams the vids in html5 - no problem on my ipad to see the videos

so no point to complain about.

although the one, that made the site, made an html-error in programming (strange enough on a site, that consits of only 1 content site!) - but it has no effect on rendering - at least not on all my browsers ...

and btw - did I mention that i like the song a lot!!!!

According to Dr Funkenberry's facebook comment, they've listened to an album, though Prince has said he no longer releases albums, instead he is recording jams and will sell them individually on the website? DR. FUNKENBERRY'S CELEBRITY NEWS FAN PAGE I think new "tracks" were played. In Billboard's interview with PRINCE, he states he longer makes albums but jams n will release them for a price the fans agree on. More from the interview when we have the full copy/story....

dr funkenberry hasnt been giving accurate information because prince wants to suprise us..

o nvm he said that in a billboard interview.. still don't buy it prince lol

[Edited 1/22/13 3:50am]

Yeah it seems odd to me if theres a listening pary for a "album" and he says that he won't release albums, I think Prince is teasing us and that there will be a new album. I'm very glad he finally putted up a official website, I love the studio version of Screwdriver smile

Yeah, no problem on my iPhone either. I was on the train when I saw the news and couldn't wait to listen. The quality was poor but that was no surprise over 3G.

With P there is always a risk. Media like physical cd can be included in pricing levels (vinyl could be done for the right price (Dutch Factory). Many want drm free stuff digitally...

Bol and Amazon are middlemen and can be cut out of the deal.

Pearl Jam has a nice content delivery but all this can be tackled after accepting the idea.

Imagine: who want the tour 1986 or 2002 released. Next KS project...

Money will be pouring out of the vents in Paisley Park... smile

I dislike Flash just as much as any other non-Windows guy, but I don't see it's general usage having diminished over the last couple of years. People aren't necessarily making entire sites with it anymore, but the videos and ads rely on it almost exclusively.

only ads rely on flash nowadays - videos can all be embedded via html5 and mostly have a fallback solution to flash (if necessarry) ..

"Can be embedded", sure, but that's not the solution most media sites default to or rely on at this point. HTML5 is still officially in its development phase. If you use Youtube or Vimeo on a PC they default playback method is still flash (and at least on my setup the playback using HTML5 gets choppy from time to time).

Thats exactly what I said - on mobile devices they point their users to the html5-technology, on pc they point to flash - and if the webmaster does a good job, he points his users to the html5-tech if the user uses a modern browser - so nothing to complain about.

If you have choppy results, this may result from your type of internet-connection, ie. if u use your smartphone, youtube automatically sends you a low-quality video to speed up the stream ...

U got to love the man for his fashion statements and tour merchandise.

So from this I take it the new album will be called 20pr1nc3 (or 2013), seems pretty obvious from the url, anyone know yet, seems crass.

Screwdriver & Andy's song both very average meh for me, a couple listens is enough to reach for the off button, super looking forward to the dvd though.

I have most likely choppy results due to the open source video driver that I use on my Linux setup. It's gotten a lot better over the last year or so though. Just 1½ years ago it was unbearable, now just a tad annoying from time to time.

DVD? Have I missed something? Seems to me that only a stream is implied.

I thought so, too, but Dr. Funkenberry called the video a DVD teaser, so I think there will be a DVD release.

Liking Screwdriver - glad he's ditched his terrible drum programming of the past few years and gone back to live drums and the more organic sound of LotusFlow3r etc. Looks liek he's having fun with it too.

Montreaux footage is great, although it's been available for so long now and the gig is 3 1/2 years old that he seems to have missed the boat a bit...

WOW! Screwdriver is AWESOME! Solid melody, raw playing and FUN! I knew he had it in him, hope he can keep that up for the rest of his new material. First song I've listened to more than twice in a looooong time.
