The future of NPGMC and why it doesn't really matter There seems to be a prominent wave of discontent with the benefits of NPGMC, or the lack thereof, amongst the people that bother to check in at this website. Some have gone so far as to assert that Prince is not delivering on some obligation to them. Such concerns are obviously steeped in the egocentric greed that characterizes so much of Prince's so called fams these days. Too much is never enough. Most artists that have a major fan function at their houses annually and releases at least 2 albums worth of material every year would manage to keep everyone satisfied.
The dilemna is that a certain hardcore contigency within the Prince fan base has mutated into a seething, whining group of ingrates that don't care about anything but what they want from Prince. They gorge themselves on Prince and expect him to sustain their gluttony by fulfilling unrealistic demands. His right to rest or a simple vacation is hardly, if ever, considered because they have become so spoiled by his generous output since becoming independent. No thought is designated to the fact that the amount of Prince material has risen exponentially since leaving Warner Brothers. If the wealth of material that was given through the NPGMC is considered with every thing that was officially released since Emanciaption, it is more stuff then you will ever see from the entire careers of some of Prince's alledged peers. I remember standing in the middle of the floor at Paisley Park during Xenophobia after one of those 5 hours gigs - I forget what night it was; swollen feet and aching lower back; shirt stuck to me from sweating and my ears just ringing like a motherfucker; and I thought to myself: "This is something that I will always remember and it is not likely to happen like this again. Could anyone ever kick my ass so thoroughly? And who else would give us such an opportunity for such an experience?" I was at a loss for any real answer to my question. I am sure that some who choose to respond will dismiss this as obsequious rhetoric or accuse me of indulging in some kind of purple powdered soft drink of dubious ingredients. That's ok. However, I am sure that there will be a certain number that share my perspective on the wealth of the art that Prince has given us over these many years. They will agree that we have always taken the whims of a genius as part of the process that enables him or her to bestow upon us those great gifts from God or from wherever it is such that such gifts come. We understand that it does not always happen on the first of the month or on the preface of a new year or just when we want it. Indeed, I do want more and more just as these insatiable fans. But I can remember all of the front row concert seats and free aftershows, reach up on into my library for any given timeless classic from my audio and video collection, retrieve all of the downloaded files, look at the pictures and books and tour programs and cheap ass perfume and cheesy T shirts and...yes, even put on my infamous yellow asspants. When I recall it all it doesnt matter to me if NPGMC returns or if Prince retires and disappears all together like Sly Stone. I will miss him dearly. There is plenty of funk to go around... I agree w/ you on all points except not caring if the club returns or not. I have a feeling this year was gonna be the first Celebration for a lot of folks - me included so I care A LOT!!
But you're right, the greed & complaining got out of hand. It's unrealistic & the man couldn't win if he let these greedy fuckers LIVE in the vault...

For the love of god, if Prince was going to retire you know damn well he would make a big announcement about it. Otherwise relax. You'll get your new music this year. He will tour again. And he will probabbly have parties of some sort at Paisley Park again.
Buy your tickets at NPG Retail. Buy your CDs off the shelf. Prince doesn't have the staff or the interest to run a "club" properly so let it go.

I totally agree with you Face, except for the last bit!
When I recall it all I would love the NPGMC to return. Honestly I canĀ“t get enough of that funky stuff and if Prince wanted to retire... he could still supply us with material from the vault. The contents and opinions expressed by MrHappy have not been approved for publication by Prince or anyone in his employ.

If there wasn't going to be a music club, why would Prince call his website NPGMC? It's coming... we just have to be patient.
