have the nerve to auction off an Xpectation cdr.

While we are on the topic of bootlegs, are you completely ignoring the fact that whilst Funkyfish (Hey Gilbert) may own bootlegs, he is also paying to support Prince's official ventures.

There's a difference between bootlegging (selling unreleased songs unavailable elsewhere) versus pirating (selling unauthorized copies of songs that are otherwise available through purchase direct from official source).

And while they are both wrong in their own ways, pirating it would seem to me to be the worse of the two.

I've contacted eBay Investigations. It's now up to them to decide whether or not this is a bootleg.

What upset me most about these listings was that they used a rider in the "item description" suggesting that "copyright was not implied."
Not only are they selling off Prince`s material for profit but they actually are denying any claims he may have for ownership of the material.

I dont own any bootlegs and in fact have been offered copies of for instance the piano cd and turned them down - instead I joined the club and will receive my real copy duly... As regards piracy, bootlegs - it is just theft plain and simple. Maybe the people who think its ok will let me have their address so that I can 'borrow' their car their tv or maybe even their wife - it is just the same - theft. I dont worship prince in fact i think he can be a bit of a prick sometimes (like we all can) but I have the common decency to choose whether I want to own his music and if so I choose whether to pay the asking price or do without - simple eh?

YES. The ONLY way to get THE BLACK ALBUM way back in 1988
was cassette on the streets. THATS just one of the many
lenghts I'd go to hear prince's music.

So what? We got Xpectation as a nice, little unexpected surprise. Just got back from my NY celebrations and found the e-mails in my Inbox. It was really nice.

However, anyone who goes and pays for some naff CDR is not going to feel the same pleasure we did at the start of 2003. Also, I think anyone who pays good money for it may feel a bit miffed when they hear this jumped-up jam session. I mean it was a nice bonus, but COME ON!

Okay some of you people are wack! Who cares if someone owns a few bootlegs? If you don;t want to own any, then don't. But do NOT sit here and tell us who want them that we can't! I don't see Prince going over to Sweden and taking down Sabotage Records, do YOU? If he really didn't want them around they wouldn't be. (remember all the internet sites?)

Prince says if your a REAL FAM you won't own any boots. But in fact bootlegs keep fans interested. In reality he's not losing money. Most boots now days are audience recordings and really not all that good as far as sound quality. All the studio stuff that leaked out of Prince's camp from the 80's and early 90's have all been released, damage done. So how tell me how does it hurt him?
