What the hell? Am I just an idiot?
Does everybody else know this except me? I freaking love the song Dreamer and I shared it with a friend and he was like, "That's EXACTLY like VooDoo Child by Hendrix." And it SO is. I couldn't believe it! That's crazy... I feel so dumb. I could read you poetry and then we could make a story of our own.

It's a definite nod to Hendrix' Voodoo Child (Slight Return). More tribute than rip-off. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

How is it a tribute, though? The line seems very thin. There's no mention of Hendrix in the credits or anything.

But since the riff is such a blatant acquisition, I'm going to have to assume that he knew it would be instantly recognized as Jimi-inspired. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Yeah, I definitely don't think he would try to pass it off as his own original creation. I have to admit, I was a little disappointed when I found out that P didn't create that beautiful song all by himself. Oh well. Dreamer is still a bad-ass song. I could read you poetry and then we could make a story of our own.

Yeah, I'd say so too. heavily inspired rather than lifted - Surely he doesn't think we're so stupid we won't notice; and it's not like the man can't come up with cool licks himself if he wanted to. I'd say it's a tribute! Similar thing with the guitar solo in Valentina, which is blatantly Santana in style at least (and of course the same goes for 'When I lay my hands on U', where he even mentions Santana's Europa before the solo).

at least prince did not have to rely on producers to help him make up a new sound although sometimes i wish he would
i thought the same thing about that Valentina solo looking forward to the next project and the next website
