Merchandise - $77 t-shirt
News - prince.org!

its a shame they screwed up the web site. The new albums are great! I'm afraid the website sucking will overshadow the albums for a time.

It sums it up when we have to have a thread explaining how to log on to the site.

Awful first experience of the site. Unwieldy, clumsy, clunky, faulty and buggy. I'm guessing there was no beta testing?

Yeah, lotsa Prince vids online. I mean, it's not like there's some "web sherriff" taking them down, right? And they're easy to access on his official site. Well, when I say easy, I mean you have to go to an elaborate process, but hey, it's not liek there are video websites that do it better, right? And the videos at LF are all in super duper quality, I mean, it's not like they're ripped from bad VHS copies, or have interlacing, or are presented in an incorrect aspect ratio. And they play smoothly.

I don't give a shit about merch. I'm not 15. I want to buy CDs, DVDs, BDs, books,... All of them EXCLUSIVE if possible, but certainly affordable (hey, the middleman is gone, right? So why am I paying MORE for LESS?) and not some lame-o crap.

Here's what you get -- or don't get -- for your troubles. Via Prince.org user SquirrelMeat:
No hard copies of the album? No crimson and clover? No chance to gettickets unless you were lucky enough for the site to work in the first 5 mins? No high res vids? No downloadable vids? No exclusive pics, just 21 night pics? A tee shirt that you have to pay shipping on, and they won't ship to Europe?
And the kiss video all chopped up on a screen the size of a postage stamp?

Way to go Prince! You did it again!

Expect a torrent of abuse!

Ouch. Prince will promote the three new albums with three nights on Leno (starting tonight) and three L.A. gigs (Nokia Theatre L.A. LIVE, Conga Room and Club Nokia) all on Saturday. I guess we won't be posting any video from them.

Sending out corrupt files that many lay down $77 for is asking for an ass reaming IMO.

ps: i LOVE stereogum. anyone who likes pitchfork should stop it right now and switch over to stereogum, because they're infinitely funnier and less indie-rawk-snobbish than the fork. and if that didn't sell you, go look at their sister site, videogum. it may be my current favorite site ever (aside from the .org, ahem).

ok, butt-kissing session over. redface

I think everyone is overreacting over the fact that the site had problems, probably due to heavy traffic for all of about 10 minutes. How is that an epic fail???

OH NOEZ!!! A website had a glitch, call CNN!!!

I think it's a little worrisome that sites are using the org for actual news sources. When in reality, the org is just a collections of people talking shit.

The only thing Prince did wrong, was have a countdown clock.

If he would've just opened the site on the 24th, people could log on at anytime without the rush of people trying go on at the exact same time.

But because the site had technical problems, something that happens to EVERY site. Prince now has to fire his ENTIRE online team, and let people from the org run his website.

Jesus christ, and you wonder why Prince wants to shut places like this down.

So they didn't get it exactly right... anyone that plunked down the $77 and got corrupt files deserves either their money back, the files fixed and a site that works.... What? You think they wouldn't fix those things. You think they would just keep the $77 and say f you no more downloads coming your way!!!

Dude there were clitches... I for one experienced some myself but I would be damned if I would bad mouthing Prince to some media outlet when they like to trash him anyhow... but hey thats me

Here we go again! To all of you wondering why Prince didn't call you up and ask you to design his website. NO MORE CANDY 4 U!!! The physical copies of the cd haven't dropped yet and y'all done begun to nit-pick the latest offering from the man. Please give me the web address to where you sell your music and provide tickets to your fans. Oh wait you don't have one! I had no problem downloading the 3 cds on Tuesday night and have been jamming to them ever since. Next thing you know you'll be wanting to ride his motorcycle. here's an idea don't sign up for the website just go get the cds from Target that way when tickets go on sale I won't have to worry about a bunch of pseudo-fans buying up all the good seats trying poorly to be cool for a night then bashing the show as soon as they get back home. By the way my fave tracks so far are Chocolate Box, $ and Elixer. What are yours?
When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Can I state the obvious just for a second...

1) He had a website. It worked. You could get the stuff you wanted and poke around. Why in the world he ever shut it down is beyond me. Now he has something that in concept is cool, but is really sub par to what he had. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

2) Technology has come a LOOOOOG way. Other sites have mastered the art of getting music out there and having video you can watch. For something that supposed to be cutting edge, the basics aren't even there.

I don't know from technology, but I do know that the preferred method of putting out a website is that you make sure it's ready to go-live, and it would have been nice to offer a site that you didn't have to pay to access.

On the other hand, no one is making anyone buy or like the site - and sometimes it goes the other way, too - no matter what the man puts out or does, some will just have nothing better to do but criticize. And it's not like they have a constructive way to state their criticism - it's purely reactionary.

Do not EVER downplay these issues.
Do NOT call them glitches as glitches are temporarily and not by design.
The issues we mention (elsewhere) are design- and other decisions and serious enough to discuss.
You can disagree but that is your fault.
