No one is forcing you to pick the Lotusflow3r

Just been reading through the various threads about the new site, and the expectations of what it will be, what it should be, what it will cost, what it should cost and so on.

As I was responding it occurred to be that we are all talking as if we are all compelled to join, pay, etc etc. Now I have stated, yes I will join and pay what I believe is a reasonable price for the offering (whatever that may be) and if I choose not to then that's my choice too. No one is making me join, or making me pay or not pay.

Now it's cool to have opinions on the site etc, but I just think all this bitching and moaning is counterproductive. For those that decide to join the site I hope the experience is a great one, and for those that don't that is cool too.

But I don't think we are owed anything. Prince as an artist has a right to put a value on his work (if he chooses to do so) and you have a right to see that as valuable or not.

And now I hand over my 2 cents and thank you.

You're right, but you have to let the complaining and caustic posts just roll off your back. This is the Internet. You're always going to have people who think everything sucks, that Prince is evil and only exists to screw people over because he thinks it's fun, and that if he would do everything the way they personally want him to do it, he would have a career renaissance that would make Purple Rain look like a quaint indie sleeper.

And ya know, no matter how much you try to debate with 'em, they just keep coming back. And they multiply, too. lol

All you can really do is put your own opinions out there, remember that your opinions are YOUR opinions, and hope people will respond and post as respectfully as you do.

I guess I never thought my comment was counterproductive to the discussion of Prince and his music... perhaps some of you did, and thought I was just contributing to the "bitching and moaning about bitching and moaning".

What I was trying to do was aim for an intelligent discussion over the value and artist places on their art - and how it is then our choice to make if we see it of value.

But if you saw it as just more bitching and moaning (as the majority of posts here seem to infer) then I do apologise.

I totally agree with you. Yesterday I thought about starting a thread "For someone who can't stand TV Dinners, you sure do eat enough of them MF's!" for those that like to dog P, but are the first to get his music.

I honestly don't know what to say to those who haven't liked much of the output in this decade (incl Rave). Not sure what they are expecting. The music is still decent. Sure some are crap, but there is still integrity and thought being put into the music. At least he's not like MJ who's output is very subpar IMO. Not only that, but P at least gives us music almost every year...and if we got to wait more than that, we get 3!

I liken it to being a LOST fan. I may not like everything, but at least it's quality and better than most things on TV. I'm in it for the ride and for all it has to offer.

It's probably Australian in origin, maybe a corruption of the word whining. (They call us Brits - Whinging Poms)

In the UK we use whinge to mean to moan and complain incessantly about something. To whine is more about the sound, like a child whines, or a dog whines. You can whinge in a whiny way but I don't think you can whine in a whingy way.

Clear? biggrin lol

Don't apologize, you were absolutely right with your original post. We all have freedom of choice to do what we want, especially with Prince. If you want to join and there may be a fee to join, then the best thing to do is save up your money so that there won't be a possibility of going broke over it, that is if you REALLY want to join it. If not, that's cool but to me complaining about a fee or whatever won't stop the fee or any other thing that you don't like on the site from existing. If people complain, then that's on them but Prince owes us NOTHING. I'm thankful that he's back on the internet at all and that we will get new music and I'll stop at nothing to get that music when it comes out.

Prince owes us the respect we deserve. He HAS to support us as well as we support him. His websites have NEVER been good and we deserve more. The only great websites he as had were HQ and the org. I don't pick Lotusflow3r because I deserve more...and so do you.

A few days to go - the price, almost confirmed. And still no-one is forcing you to join.

I personally will see what is on offer, and if I like it I will put my hard earned money down. Will it be worth the price of admission. Time will tell.

You're right but more times than not, that doesn't happen around here, especially in recent months. I've come to realize that this is just the way it is here and NOTHING is going to change that. This is a hot mess that nothing can clean up. That's the reality here on p.org.

What has art to do with money? ...nothing...does Prince think of money when writing a song...know he does not unless the song is about the impact of money on the soul..

Business is related to money ....people on the site are asking business questions not questions about Prince's art...as we all own his art and we value it if we did not we would not post on Prince.org that's just business...

A price is a commercial business agreement ...thus it is right if orgers voice disagreement at that business price.....they are not really voicing their disagreement for Prince's art and nor do they expect it for free....but for a fair commercial business price.....$77 / £54 we have yet to know if this is a fair price as we have little understanding of why the business model relates to this price...when other artist charge less for their business membership agreement...some orgers may not be able to afford this amount and if too little sign up the business agreement will ceases as it will not make a profit thus we all lose out...

Good business is about numbers and profit at the end of the day.... biggrin

How many people does Prince need to break even ? at $77 ?
How many people does Prince need to make a Profit at $77 ?
How many orger will pay $77 ?
Did the NPGMusic Club make a Profit ? if so why did it close ?

.....
Da, Da, Da....Emancipation....Free..don't think I ain't..! London 21 Nights...Clap your hands...you know the rest..
