Wasn't the unveiling of Prince's website an anti-climax?

New website appears, there are a number of songs, and one gets the idea that something big is gonna happen in January. So far, all good. Then January 31 comes and what happens? The website slightly changes shape and there are a couple of new songs but nothing major happens.

Prince makes great music and I'm sure there are nice things waiting to happen on the website, I'm just saying, so far, this is disappointing.

razz Here's what happened....

There was a date given. A set of sites were created. Nice graphics, attention-grabbing tracks. That's all Prince did. The fans, however, took it a step further. We all love Prince. Despite the fact that he can be many many things, we wouldn't be here posting if we didn't like/love him to a certain extent. So there's excitement and expectations. Especially since he has been gone for so long. So when there's signs of life, everything becomes an "OHMIGAWD!!" fest and we've all got our eyes open wide like this-- eek

I was excited to hear him on the radio when he debuted his three songs. I was pleased as punch when he decided to make more websites. What I don't like is how they all keep on gettin' taken down. But that isn't going to stop me from loving him or his tunes. With that in mind, I guess I don't really expect the explosions and fireworks of his past. When I heard about lotusflow3r, I was happy. When I visited, I took it for what it was--an advert and intro to his new music.

And I wasn't disappointed. I just hope that this site will stick around and we get updates when we can. I'm just speaking for myself, though. I can see where everyone is disappointed but it's no fun when we've got music of his right there.

Eh. I just think of it this way--he didn't have to do anything at all. At least he's trying.

If you will sit back and think about it (and not just you, others that feel this way as well)...Since Prince is not going with a record company to promote this new music, THIS is his promo tool...
He is giving certain bits to create anticipation for the big release!
Therefore, THIS is his promotion! Other artists promote their new albums 4 months or so before they hit the shelves...right?? Yes! We just began hearing about this when? I think the first we started hearing was December when he posted some jams to the live streaming radio show. So, we are now sitting on about 2 or so months...
Think about it...it is HIS way of promoting!!!!
Am I satisffied??? Yes! Do I wish I had music to download last night??? Yes!!! However, it is only because I love this man's music and I get very spoiled and want it as soon as possible! But, it will come.
Sorry if last night did not "do it" for some of you that feel you must find fault.
But Prince is doing things as he feels the need, and he is promoting!!
I saw several people on another thread saying that he did not know how to promote and since he was/is not using a record company his sales would be crap due to lack of promotion. Guess what??? Here's the promotion!
Just because a lot of us "thought" he would bring out new music last night, to the public, did not mean that was what he was going to do.
He brought it out to the press, a chosen few.
By doing this...THEY will begin to promote his music, right? We should begin to see articles about what went down last night, how the music sounded, how Prince sounded...
This is promotion leading UP TO the music...
Sit back, trust in one of the BEST musical artist of all time, and ENJOY

You wrote: "So when there's signs of life, everything becomes an "OHMIGAWD!!" fest..."

It's not that I'm overly enthusiastic about Prince's upcoming stuff. I think the site gave the impression that there was gonna be a major opening in January. The site wrote about "January 2009, new galaxy awaits" and there was the Jan 31 ticket. It gave the impression that the official opening was gonna be in January. Songs on the site, three purple ticket winners, that's all good. I just think that if you create a site and for instance writes: "May 2009, new experience awaits", then you give the impression that a major opening is gonna happen in May, and then the opening should be in May. If the major opening is in July don't write "May 2009, new experience awaits".

I certainly enjoy the new music so far, I don't spend a lot of time feeling disappointed smile

Yes, by releasing songs to radio and putting up songs on his website he is promoting, and creating anticipation, and that's all good. I just think that since the site mentioned January 2009, new galaxy awaits, and the Jan 31 ticket, it gave the impression that there was gonna be an official opening in January. I think they are over by now.... cool

In answer to your question - yes, very.

Prince is a great entertainer and also now an incredibly shrewd marketer.

If it had said February, another world awaits, video, songs, etc, that would have been better.

It's a tease at worst...but very anti-climactic I would agree.

If one website would go up and stay up it would be a lot better than all of these bit parts like npgmusicclub, 3121, yada yada yada...LOL

Isn't it a bit counter-productive?! T

The new web site opens that promotes the new web site that hasn't opened yet but was previewed by three lucky purple ticket winners! can't you see that's Prince's way of promotion?!! I'm sure the core fans will be back in Feb + March to see what happens. But a percentage of people checked out the new site and were like WTF is this?? So this is the new galaxy that opened in Jan!?? I'm outta here. No information, no nothing.

I don't mind that Prince has had many different sites over the years. The internet will get boring over the years without change. I still believe as far as Prince and his camp go they haven't gotten the internet clubs down 110% just yet. Who knows maybe they will get it together for this one??? But you think they would wish to inform people that visit that site - because it's not like every is a diecore P fan and drinking the purple kool-aid - Inform them: Please return in the 3rd week of whatever because we will be opening the entire new site then.

He thrives on being a man of mystery but no one cares much about that sort of thing/drama these days. We just wanna site to get some new tunes.

Come on people we DESERVE so much more from him. Stop defending him There is no excuse for such a poor website. NPGMC was a joke. I don't want to hear he's not ready...There is no excuse I will buy for not having a fully fan interactive website with music, videos, news, etc. It's 2009 the technology is there. I can tell you this I could come up with an official Prince website in 3 days that would be better than Lotusfow3r.com will ever be. That is the truth.

Because the major label tells them to. This is the OLD WAY. Prince should embrace the NEW way.

The whole episode is a nonesense. WE wait 31 days for a half baked site to jerk and cough into life, only to disappoint and frustrate.

If it was any other artist it would of been BANG...full site, up and at 'em and in ya face full on - Ahhh joy and idle hours spent playing etc. However, we get the reverse without any signs it will kick into full swing any time soon.

Frankly im bored of it. Crank it up to full power (it must be there or thereabouts re the sneak preview) or turn it off and relaunch it whenever.

Quite frankly im disturbed by some peoplese obessiveness about the site. Wow, 2 new pictures....omg....come on, its two new pics..thats it...

It would just be nice for once to have something released on time and fully working.

What is all this talk about 'neglect"? Seriously, I think many fans are too emeshed into the man and his music. Especially when you start talking about "being neglected." That just does not sound sane to me. The Killers/MGMT/Springsteen have neglected me because they haven't done ____ for me.

I think he may have suddenly realised that he hadn't promoted his new site/album!

He was about to release it, and in a moment of clarity realised no one, but a handful of dutiful (and slightly pissed off fans in the case of Housequake), knew anything about it!! razz

But that was part of a transaction. You pay for an album and you receive what you "deserve" - the album. You pay for a concert ticket and you get what you deserve - a good show. Simply because you happen to like Prince's music doesn't mean you deserve anything from him, let alone an invitation to his home to a private party or a website he designs to your specific liking. lol

the whole thing, announcement, the songs, and most of all, the website - have been of the lowest quality. I dont ask anything from the man, but if he just looks inside himself and thinks about his legacy - he can either look back at this period as a period of great music and excellent output or another hyped up disappointment - i think that he never finished 3 albums and that he has set expectations on his not only his fans but HIMSELF too high. He has enough material for one album, at this moment in time - I will take just that not 3 half assed projects with no album.

we can say that we should not expect anything from him, but he set it upon himself. perhaps when he sees less and less of clicks on his pointless website, he might add another photo of himself lying on a wall.

if you cry wolf enough no one will listen.
