Yeah, ok, that would do it for me, I'll join for an exclusive CD, for sure! The problem, we won't know until we join...

Don't get me wrong, I can come up with a lot of Fuck You's to fans concerning NPGMC, I just don't know what you mean concerning that particular EP. Could you explain?

There was much discussion on the boards about how members plunked down $100 to receive a specific allotment of CDs. It was believed by a very vocal contingent of said members that Prince did not deliver as promised. Thus, Purps uploaded C-Note = $100.

Thanks, for the recap. I had quit the club by that point and wasn't aware of the situation. Doesn't surprise me, though...

I'll gladly pay the fee.

It kills me to listen to fans for years say that if he would produce high quality vids and music over boots... they would gladly pay if he released them.(The Coachella vids for instance) Now that it seams he may just in fact be doing that.... they claim they won't pay.... but I bet they will 'steal' try to get their hands on the product. (And no that wasn't a mis-spell)

Many fans here are just as double minded as Prince is. Great comparison isn't it? evillol

DEPENDS.

Some of say they are hardcore fans, but did you subscribe to the NPG magazine that just gone de-funk-t after a few copies??? And the $$$ go down the drain. No I'm not pissed just understand first what you are getting into. This is a business and it's about Prince getting paid for his work and he should get paid for his work but just remember.

In this economic downturn, this deal will have to be the sweetest ever (and if it's $77 thats a lot of entertainment money to 'most' people). The new site will have to include, some perks like: physical cds, unreleased music, good tickets, afterparty, soundchecks, streaming videos, chats, constant stream of news..etc. but the gravy is MUSIC, MUSIC and MORE MUSIC on physical cds to gain the attention of the majority of the fan base and IMO to survive.

Prince wants the $$$ for his lifesytle, which is fine. The main thing most fans care about is getting new music in excellent quality(FLAC or CD), most are more than willing to pay to gain access to unreleased music from the vault. If they are just going to offer streaming videos and the latest Larry G/associated artists mp3's, I just don't believe this will work for long. Even those saying 'no' at this point I believe some will sign up if the deal at least looks excellent.

Keep in mind. The fact: If Prince doesn't get the $$$..the site will die. $77 realy isn't much money for me and many here but I'm also not going to fund some site that I believe has no potential to survive or deliver the goods. Fact: don't believe 100% what is advertised. Remember the cds advertised in the ONA program that never hatched? Remember the 'lifetime' subscription to the NPGMC? Remember the Crystal Ball set that many preordered and then it shows up in stores before the mailbox? I'm saying don't believe the hype..I didn't feel ripped of by NPGMC but they really didn't do all they advertised. Not angry just saying thats the track record. At this point in time, nearing a depression - Prince will have to remember that many people are broke.

1000's are losing jobs every day. Personally it's just difficult for me to blindly give to a website that may not deliver or pay $250 for seats for a show (and thankfully for the most part P's tickets have been priced nice for the value over the years! I'm just saying like the Eagles or Fleetwood Mac they don't need $250 of your money when people are sucking D. to eat!).

It's difficult to just blindly give to the stronger hands at this point in time ya know??

Totally agree with LondonStyle & Realm. Prince and his camp really need to consider the GLOBAL economy and mass unemployment when setting the price for his site.

If I'd been asked a year ago to join for $77 I'd have been at the front of the queue, at the moment though... neutral

I'm gonna hang back and see how much it's gonna be and what you get for the money shrug

Answer: make a deal with a major label/major chain or just print up cd's and sell them directly to the fans at a fair and square price. It's all about distribution of the music.

I would think they know that they have to offer a good amount of music in order for people to join? That's what the core fans are in this for the music?? Right?

That's what every fan hopes for.. but I'm afraid this will be video oriented.. (even tho i'm sure we can't own the videos)

I don't however think too much music will be delivered through the site.. I'd love to be wrong about this.. but i doubt it

Who knows? You could be right, wrong!

Given the track record. Without a good # of fans joining = the sites quick demise because P won't make the buck. Would you pay $77 for something that is going straight into the ground?

I would believe the way to get a good number of people to join would be to offer up music = a good # of cd's, flacs, etc. The economy sucks and a good number of people that are even on the .org won't give up the buck if it's not about the music. That is personally why I'm a fan, I like the music.

It's like..Hey Prince!! go try to make an exclusive deal with WalMart, Bestbuy or Starbucks selling $77 access cards to your web site. And yeah, the website won't include new music (no new cds or flac downloads!) just a bunch of pretty graphics, chat room, forum and an occasional mp3! Let's see if one of the big chains will make a deal with you to sell those $77 access cards to the lotus site!!!!! bawhawhawhawawwww. Sell the access cards for $70 to people that are unemployed!!!

Except he did: they may not have been the CDs that were alluded to initially, but the ONA boxset fulfilled the criteria.

I'm not an apologist, but people around here really need to stop whining about thing Prince has "promised" over the years. Prince has always been fickle, and mentioned projects never coming to fruition shouldn't be a surprise to anyone at this point. Nor should they be used as some sort of ammo against him.

ONA Piano as part of the "4 CDs"? Great album, but we already had that. ONA Live was a single project, albeit with 2 discs.

Folks were not picking nits. Expectations were for 4 CDs. A lossy download or two does not a CD make.

Prince fucked people over. Took their money and fucked them over.

Some see it your way. Some don't.

Some will buy into Purple promises unfulfilled. Some have learned a valuable Purple lesson.

I'm afraid you're getting your facts wrong: One Nite Alone was always going to be part of the 4 CDs included for the year's membership. The question up in the air was what the remaining three were going to be. Folks started speculating that it would be Xenophobia, The Best Of, and Last December because of what was printed in the ONA tourbook, but the NPGMC never confirmed or denied those one way or another. So we ended up with ONA...Live (which is actually 3 discs, not 2). That may not have been what people were expecting (I was a little disappointed myself) but the guarantees were met.
