This what the NPGMC had to say about the music industry in the posting 'Freedom Pt.1':

"The industry was going in a different direction, which had less and less 2 do with music and more and more 2 do with money."

Well, I say: "It takes one to know one!"

The only reason I can think of why we got so little new music this year is money. I mean, it can't be a creativity-issue, because Prince already finished 4 albums in the beginning of 2002, (which are listed in the tourbook)! But he decided 2 only send the ONA live album because it was probably a whole lot cheaper to fulfill his CONtract this way.

Just look at the next quote from the same posting:

"Prince really wanted 2 release more music both within the system and thru his own imprint (NPG), effectively “flooding the market”. It didn’t work out, because the industry was afraid of “saturation” — which is rather perplexing when u think that saturation, in the 4m of abusive repetition of the same things over and over again, is xactly what the industry actually feeds on."

How ironic!!
Why didn't we get the 7 CD-box set of Xenophobia live? Because now Prince himself is afraid of saturation!!! (By releasing it at the same time as the ONA live CD box set, which will result in saturation and thereby less money 4 Prince.)
The only reason Prince promised us the 7-CD set is because he didn't want us to spend money on the bootleg (which ultimately will result in (again) less money 4 Prince if he would ever decide to release it anyway...)

Think about it.

I challenge you to find any other good reason to why Prince "changed his mind" on sending out his other (already finished) albums.

I'll keep an open mind as always, but in my opinion the money-issue is the most important reason 4 Prince to 'handle his business' this way.

It means that if P. would've released a second live box-set, the general public, as well as the media wouldn't understand. People are going to buy only one package as they would both be very expensive and cover a lot of the same tracks.

Now I'm with you that the fam would probably buy both, but would that generate enough money 4 Prince to go through all that trouble to get two sets off the ground? I doubt it...

Prince should've sent us at least one compilation CD of the Celebration right after it was over. That would've been the best gift this NPGMC year. It would be exclusive to the NPG fams (which would make us feel a lot more special than we do right now!) and 6 months later, everybody would still look forward to ONA live, 'cause that one contains 3 live CD's.
If he would've done that, I would be the last NPGMC-member to complain...

But again; it's all about the money!

You know, there was a very easy solution. We sohould be b***ing about waiting for UPS to deliver the 7-disc Celebration cds/dvd. Also, we'd be abuzz about who was going to purchase the "poor man's" ONA Live.

Now, if you're like most fans. You'd either at the ONA Live to your want for Christmas list or buy it yourself. Thus, meaning, he'll get twice the dollars.

Oh yeah. Those of us who couldn't afford to attend the Celebration would be so grateful, we'de sign up immeadiately for next year. Those who attened would be so syched about hearing their own screams of xtc, the would rejoin.

That, of course, is an ideal business venture. The truth is the club is split due to this years lousey service. Opportunities mean nothing if one can't take advantage.

wait a second. that's not fair. we probably WOULD have gotten Xenophobia if some rude fuck at the celebration hadn't bootlegged it out from under prince. i bet that pissed him off BIG time. imo the whole bootlegging issue makes the topic of 'distribution' kind of special, now doesn't it? so i don't give a flying boink if the discs are xclusive, in retail or whatever. the point is he's getting the 4 CD ONA set out there, to members, on time. ON TIME!!

and i like the set. it's better than i hoped, actually. he took his time and did a good job. i'm glad the club came through for us, on time, as promised

Eye will say this also, that eye am looking forward to the live cd, and its on time.. and hopefully its better than what eye expect. but eye would love the cd's that the tourbook stated. in fact, eye still propose the idea of no club at all, release it through the retail section.. no fuss at all, just put it up when its ready, the fans WILL buy it, and there is no obligation for someone to not get what is expected.
