Freedom Part 2: The Chocolate Invasion (mention of DVDs)

Hey there!

In an 'emale' from the NPGMC there is:

P.S. Check out r latest commentary:
Freedom, Pt. 2: The Chocolate Invasion
http://www.npgmusicclub.c...m-pt2.html

This is basically just a rant about people who expect good value from the club but don't get it and then complain (maybe they've been reading the emails after all). reading

BUT at one point when asking whether the club is worth it, the message says:
How much is the opportunity 2 own CDs and DVDs of such shows worth 2 u?

Which kind of implies that being a member of the club will give you the opportunity to own DVDs. These can't be the 'Rave un2 the Year 2000' DVDs because you don't need to be a member of the club to get that opportunity!

Will we have this opportunity? I wonder.

Al (bat400)

PS No ONA Box Set here in UK yet (still 'In Progress')

>How much is the opportunity 2 attend a soundcheck by
>Prince & The NPG and an interactive chat session with the
>artists worth 2 u?

It cost me around $100, add in the cost of flights and accomodation and that's what it's worth to me.

>How much is the opportunity 2 attend a week-long
>celebration in Prince’s own Paisley Park Studios — with
>hours and hours of xclusive live per4mances as well as
>intimate sessions with highly talented musicians — worth
>2 u?

The cost for this was astronomical, and not worth it to me, so I didn't go.

>How much is the opportunity 2 purchase front-row tickets 4
>the next Prince & The NPG concert in ur town b4 they go on
>sale 2 the general public worth 2 u?

Well this is one perk that was actually provided by my membership fee, so I guess that was $100 in itself. Not sure it was worth it though.

>How much is the opportunity 2 hear and own new Prince
>recordings and attend Prince shows — in which he is not
>constrained by any commercial considerations and has no
>artistic compromises 2 make — worth 2 u?

Well I haven't heard any new Prince recordings yet, and anybody can attend the shows. Is delivering a product on time be a commercial consideration?

My bank account is kept in the black with money, not values!

lets wait and see untill we got our c.d's maybe there is a extra 2 it .and ther year is still not over.
untill now its all been worth it 2 me.
lets see eye got a ona piano c.d -it has only 9 songs on it but its very beautiful and better quality then the downloads last year.
we are going 2 get a 3 c.d set off the greatest concert off all time .much better then the poor bootleg c.d that are availble .
we all got frontrow tickets with soundscheck included
its 4 u 2 dicide how many concerts u go 2 and if u can afford this all the ticket prices were not so expencive as some of u say.
eye live in belguim so its not easy 2 go 2 the celebrations and other in the states.but thats ok 4me.
so 4 me it was worth 100$ .
ok 100$ 4 ona and the 3disc set is 2 much but like eye said it ain't over yet and lets wait and see.
even if eye get the box at home .eye'm still gonna buy it in stores .(eye always buy prince c.d's double.u never no if sombody steal my collection).
a dvd would be a nice end off the year.
the guy is getting older so u can not want from the man that between touring all the world he do all the other stuff and create new c.d's .and its only the second year off something new .we all make mistakes .
woekie woekie!!!

reading If you look at it like that it even implies more/other CD's than ONA-live from 'such shows', since you don't have to be a member of the club to own ONA-live either. It will be available in shops within a month. wink

You're making the assumption that they actually thought this through, and aren't just making vague statements about what the club offers.

Persian

It's a manipulative use of language. Basically they are covering themselves legally and commercially.
They are charging u FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO BUY...
this means that the opportunity itself costs e.g $20 then the actual product itself will be and additional charge not in the 'membership' cost.

People are going to fall into the same trap. This suggestion is going to be interpretted as a contractual promise by many people. "We're getting DVDs next year! They promised!" And we'll have another discussion next year about how NPGMC broke their promise.

Let's just take this as brain-storming right now, not a commitment. I don't think they've even promised that there will be a club in 2003. I expect there will be, but I'm not deluding myself.

And I don't even own a DVD player, so I spit on the idea of getting DVD's! But that's a different discussion...
