The NPGMusic Club Site

This site has all the energy, hidden.. This whole thing could have a lot going for it.. eye realized this visiting it.. Its very neat and different looking, but no updates, no info whatsoever.. the only thing that remotely makes me feel like its a club, is when it asks me for a password.. thats it.. eye mean, Eye'm not gonna ramble bout the ONA Live, being this is a club, shouldnt there be like apart dedicated from the site of ANY info, or a tracklisting.. it seems we get that info elsewhere, and that doesnt sound like a club.. It really does look like a "give me ure money" site, and ure just sitting around twiddling ure thumbs in ure spare time in the day, wondering, well maybe theyll send it sooner or later.. maybe eye misread the Contract, or whatever it was we were to agree with, but it just looks like a dead shell around there.

Here is my little list for 2003 club, if there is one.

Perhaps a weekly update, with REAL information.

Maybe a portion of the site dedicated to whats coming our way, even if he doesnt know, just let us know ANYTHING.

A Posting forum, simular to the org. to at least give us something to make us come back to the website.

A Friendly monthly email, letting us know any news about upcoming events, news or anything.. not these crappy "The pie is the fridge, go get a sky of chuu chuu" letters they send that dont make sense and are very vague.

Perhaps a Vault of just "clips" to listen to.

and most importantly, make sure u f*cking know what cd's ure gonna have for the fans, if u cant do that prince.. screw the club, cause ure only gonna end up pissin people off, if u havent already noticed.

those are just some things that would probably improve the site by 50%.. cause its a ghost town presently.

I doubt that Prince has the energy, manpower, or interest to do anything about your suggestions. Which is crazy because it's not like you're asking for anything outrageous; just the basic things that being in a "club" should consist of.
Prince has a history of losing his interest on projects that he's working on & then abandoning them & I'm sure the NPGMC will be no different. Personally, I think it would be for the better because the Club seems to be causing a lot more stress for people rather than joy.

ONTHE1

If you look at other musicians sites (Bowie/U2) its really fustrating that the NPG site is so dull. It could be 100 times better and would definatley enhance Princes bank account, especially now he solely relies on the net to promte new material.

I don't know whether this is true but somebody told me two fans originally set up the site for Prince. Anyone know any different??

Those suggestions are great, but if you love the music, you've almost always had to go get news, updates and real info from independent sources (Uptown, Controversy, Prince Family, and now the Org) in order to know about it. In many ways its better that way. At least you get the closet thing to the truth.

What the club has done is demonstrate something that i've begun 2 notice a few years ago. The music has a very small cult following shaven down over the past 4 years so slim that Prince is now able to sharply fine tune his message. So within the club you have two types of participants.

1. Collective follower willing to accept or pay anything.
2. Subjective fan who just wants to hear the new music.

Then you have the rest, music lovers who can't afford the ride, can't make the celebrations, and in many ways are just waiting for this latest "phase" to conclude. But consider this.. Prince has burned alot of bridges in the past 7 years.. so I really don't think he'll scrap NPGMC so quickly.

MTV after all these years is still the phat worldwide sh*t. And if you're not a part of it, you're not a driving force with impact in music entertainment. The website says to the world. Yeah i'm still here, i'm still releasing the funk, we still have a pulse.

Haystack

The following is my usual routine when looking at the NPGMC website.

1. Log in.
2. Eagerly go to Retail in the vain hope that something new and genuinely exciting will appear in the premium section.
3. Get disappointed.
4. Go to Ur Account ('Ur'- phonetically pronounced ergh! like an expression of disgust at the lack of activity).
5. Look disappointed as, for six months, nothing except 'One Night Alone CD - shipped' appears.
6. Explore rest of site, again in a vain attempt to find something worthwhile - here's what you'll find;

What's New? - Er, nothing of any interest.

Download - Two songs. One below par tune from year one and a sample of something that we're (hopefully) getting on CD anyway.

Concerts - A message to people who post on the Org about how great the NPGMC is because they got to smell Prince's breath from row 2 or felt his spittle from row 7 and claim that just that experience alone made the $100 worthwhile; YOU PAID EXTRA FOR THE CONCERTS!!! It seems, while singing the club's praises, many members conveniently forget this in order to make the club sound better than it is. And it was quite a substantial amount of money, too. For the extra $95 (approx, here in the UK) per person, I would most definitely expect a damn fine concert experience.

Retail - Yawn!
Black women's tank top with Prince written on the front - I'm sure they mean a black tank top and not a tank top made purely for black women. Also, I'm sure that you could make these yourself, anyway.
Cloud Guitar - Only $1500??? Wow, I'll buy several.
Days Of Wild CD single - $5.00 plus God knows how much shipping if you live away from the USA. It would have been $10.00, but Prince took away all it's soul by removing the cuss words and thereby taking away what made the song sound so emotional in the first place - hence the cheaper price.
Prince Hat - Who in their right mind would wear this??? You'd be the laughing stock of the mental institution.
Symbol keychains - That we never got around to selling during his symbol phase, a steal at $25 dollars.

Xtras - Ha ha ha, you must be joking! Some pictures that you can't even download and keep, an advert or two, two dull wallpapers (again, an advert), the lyrics to aforementioned below par song which you don't just read, you Xperience!!! The only thing which I found quite interesting here was the Contest song - a nice touch that gave people a chance to feel like part of a genuine club.

My NPGMC - would be a huge improvement over this one!!!
Main - Actually contains more items of interest than the paid-for bit.

Dang, I'm feeling bitter today!

i guess we can only hope for improvements in the future.

i'm not very excited about the remaining CDs. if they are ONA live sets i guess that's ok but (and no i don't have bootlegs) i bet i already have the originals somewhere. and, i'm going to feel pretty freaking stupid when the retailer carries the same set for le$$

i don't understand what's keeping the NPGMC from becoming what it COULD be? you'd think it would be prince's baby, something he'd enjoy working on

I wish I could get inside one of your heads for a day just to understand the constant turmoil you suffer over the NPGMC. ~25 albums, plenty of boots, some comic books, biographies, a recent tour, movies, and concert videos (authorized and boot) aren't enough to entertain you for 6 months between releases?? How did you ever survive the 80's when you had to wait a whole year between 45 minute Prince albums??? Now you want Prince to entertain you daily through his web site. Good grief. There's a lot of amazing music out there to discover and explore, not to mention other web pages.

Maybe we should start up a thread to discuss ways to cope between Prince albums, like talk about other albums to try, and other ways to discover new music (http://www.gnoosic.com/).

Sorry if this message seems a bit hostile, but sometimes you have to hurt someone to help them. =P

Cheers.

Hmm, I think you're taking this a lot more seriously than some of the rest of us. My post on this thread was light-hearted (although true) and the actual thread was started as merely a suggestion of how to improve the club. Constant turmoil? I don't think so - this is a forum to discuss the NPGMC, so you're going to read a lot about it here. Are we to assume that because you post on the Org, all you think about is Prince 24/7? Of course not - likewise I only give NPGMC any serious thought when I come here. And when you've paid $100 for something that has ultimately become a let-down and a slight con, surprisingly it's annoying.

Let me help you out here. biggrin

It isn't "constant turmoil". Most of these people purchased a club membership, and wishes the membership were better. Don't even count all the other stuff outside of the membership, as everyone has shelled out money for that too. biggrin

It is frustration (and humor biggrin) that causes people to post how they feel about the club, and other aspects of Prince.

In fact, it is good that they do - in the process members get to converse! If it were up the the NPGMC...yawn biggrin

Cheers! wink
