Multi tier NPGMC?

First my background… 31 years old, been a Prince fan since about 1986 and have seen him live 4 times in the UK. Now living in Canberra, Australia so unless he tours Australia in December (which I’m not optimistic about) I doubt I’ll see him live again. And even if he does play Australia, I doubt Canberra will be on his list of places to play so it would mean traveling to Melbourne or Sydney. And, with my wife not being a fan and myself learning to be a father (6 week old son), the chances of getting to a concert are virtually zilch.

Anyway... my point? I would like to be able to support Prince by joining the NPGMC but having seen so many people complain about it this year and the fact that the ‘bonus’ ability of getting good tickets is useless to me, the price of US$100 is rather steep. This converts to AUS$200 which would buy me 8 new CDs (as opposed to the 4 on offer from the NPGMC but not yet delivered). And AUS$200 goes a long way on baby stuff too…

Ok, so there must be other Prince fans like myself out there right? Therefore I wonder why NPGMC has not considered doing the club on several tiers instead? My thoughts being something like:

Gold membership – US$100 – The albums physically sent to you, the ticket benefits, the downloads etc…

Silver membership – US$60 – The albums physically sent to you and downloads only without the ticket benefits

Bronze membership – US$30 – You can have the albums and his other music but downloadable MP3s only.

If the NPGMC did something like this I’d certainly get Bronze, if not even Silver membership.

Anyway, just curious what anybody else thinks on this subject?

Not sure it would be cost effective for them to offer downloads again. I have a feeling they scrapped the downloads because it was too expensive to upgrade the hardware to cope with the demand.

The downloads ran so very, very slowly in year one when they wasn't a connection problem.

I have to disagree. I think every member should have the same deal. I like this years deal (provided we do get our stuff in the end).

no no no! i agree 100% take me for example, i just signed up do to the limited access to a credit card that i don't even want but to be a member that one of the requirements. i also think that they should have another option of payment but, no checks, just something thats guaranteed. although i do understand that the mail flow would be a bit overwhemling which means he would have to hire more peeps and that is not likely hrmph

How about a simpler idea

Tier one for those who just want the CDS

Tier two for those who ticket preference and CDS
