NPGMC should learn from Bowie..

want to know what you get with 99$ subscribing to Bowie net?

-full access to dozens of rare high quality video footages
-full access to a lot of audio material
- houndreds of pictures
- a lot of FREE tickets for each date of the tour (this years the site gave away to subscribers at least 50 tickets per date)
- Members only shows with free tickets
- a double cd of rare live material straight in your mailbox
- an HAND SIGNED litograph autographed by Bowie
- a lot more (think that before "Heathen" was released fans had access to rehearsals footages and audio clips)

someone should learn from this...a lot can be given to fans via internet...and It's 7 months since I'm waiting for the first cd, COME ON!
cheers
Alex

I'll tel you more: Genesis are planning to make a similar thing to the npgmc, giving their fans full access to an archive of unreleased audio concerts.
Prince had a great idea, but he MUST do better...OPEN THE VAULT!

Now this is how an online club should be, regarding that Prince boasts about how he has thousands of unreleased songs and video's for about 50% of the songs he's released and even video's for songs he hasn't released... Not to mention the hours and hours of rehearsal, concert and other footage like TV appearances or award-show footage both audio and video...
But what do we get for $100...

- No info...

- No service...

- The promise of cd's that don't exist (only in his head)...

- A download of an earlier available track...

- 1(!) whole exclusive live track as a download...

- A fucking 30-something minute CD of which half was already released (as if he hasn't got more solo piano material to release)...

- A fucking live set of the most boring leg of the ONA tour overdubbed and edited for our listening pleasure...
And of course non-exclusive...

- The great opportunity to buy overpriced merchandise like guitars (these things aren't even worth $300), candles, mousepads and other bullshit items that have nothing to do with music by real musicians...

- The option to give him more money to see him play live...

- And of course the best of all Members-only aftershows for which we have to pay and later discover that non-members had to pay less...

So for $100 the only things we get that we can enjoy more than once is:

- 1 exclusive live track
- An EP
- A 3 CD Live set

Not much IMO...

I have been a bowie.net internet subscriber and I'm more than happy with the service. When a problem with the net comes up I dial up bowie net and they are there to answer any questions.. if they do not know how to fix a problem they take my number down figure out what is wrong and call me back, the way it should be.
The bowie net 2 cd set is pretty nice and some of his new products are completely insane. The new 2 dvd collection of music videos appearances is insane..love it. The last cds from Bowie have been great, course his old stuff is great!
Bowie net gives the fans constant information on what bowie is upto, there are contests all the time, new pictures like daily! Information Daily!
I get the feeling that Bowie net really does care about how I feel as a paying customer and when the internet service is down I can more than forgive them, the bowie net service rocks.
I think that the NPGMC will have something real good with the 3cd live set and I just think people will be very pleasantly suprised when they finally do get the new set! I'm going to be polite to NPG and make a lot of suggestions for Y3, I think in the end the NPGMC is well worth it and they will better there service, the first celebration was not as good as the 2nd 3rd IMO and this NPGMC has to change and get better.
As for Bowie net! There never was a major problem! If you like Bowie go with them. Enjoy the music and take care people.
Oh, I think BowieNet could take aOne lesson from NPGMC and maybe have a week long get together Celebration out in NYC! Wait I think he did play 7 nights straight out in NYC this year, not a celebration tho, the activites at the celebration make it something very special.

Anxiety

Don't forget that Bowie maintains his own online diary quite regularly - he was one of the first celebrities to do such a thing. Also, he has regularly scheduled chats with fans, which usually feature not only him but other celebrities as well, including his wife and members of his band.

Bowie knows how to create and nourish an online fan community, and he takes the time to take part in it and it only increases fan loyalty and his own legend.

The age of information is giving way to the age of communication - and it takes two to tango. I've been hearing a lot more negative about NPGMC than positive lately, and all it takes is Prince hiring one or two ambitious, creative webmasters to keep the club alive and well and plugged into the fan community. Nice. Easy.

But we all know Prince is just like Ike and Tina...he never ever does anything "nice and easy"...

Prince has always done things his way and always will. Doing things right requires a lot of time and patience and a lot of trust in other people who say what has to be done. Something he's not too good at.

Why would anyone want Prince to post a daily onlime journal? You want daily comments on fat americans, greedy record companies, religious nonsense, cookie recipes, etc.?
I looked at Bowie's offer - for $65.00 I would get a double live cd & a lot of intangibles. Thats $32.50 per cd. Prince comes to $25.00 per cd.
Just depends on how you look at it. Not that $25 per cd is a deal but $65 for a double cd is no fantastic bargain either.

the "intagibles" are:

full concerts for download (especially deleted old vhs as "Ricochet")
full rare promo interviews for download, previously available only on promo vinyl
dozens of rare video footages
dozens of rare audio tracks
10 megabytes of free web space

etc etc etc
cheers

Oh yeah! Well Bowie Net sent me two of the sets! That came to $16.25 per disc. The thing with Bowie is your getting what you pay for..they keep there word! Well..I'm also still happy about the NPGMC..the concert experience was cool(tho pricey) + 3 live cds will be cool IMO, and I always have y1 cds nearby and ONA so I can't complain. With Bowie Net the whole COMMUNICATIONS to fans is 100% different than NPGMC. You can't say one thing and do another and not expect some people to be dissapointed! It's like if you ordered a cd from a web site and they just want ahead and sent you another one and said well we had plans to send you the other one and changed our minds! I'm not complaining cause I've seen it time and time again thru his camp.

If you like Bowie and need internet service for $15 per month is worth it cause you get internet and access to the exclusives on the web site.

It comes down to what you want and like and how much you like it, I know Bowie and Prince fans who have not joined cause they still would rather just buy the stuff sent to stores anyways. I can't spell!

It's clear as the words on this page that you don't know what you're talking about.

First of all: Bowie's membership has included FREE concert tickets. Let me repeat that: FREE concert tickets. Prince's membership gives you the opportunity to buy his (famously overpriced, but what's money to a FAM?) tickets first...well, USUALLY, that is. If everything works out right.

Secondly, if you've ever heard the quality of Bowie's live material, you'd know that his live albums are among the best in the industry. The "Ziggy Stardust" soundtrack is legendary, "Stage" is a critic's wet dream, and mention "Live at the Beeb" to any Bowie fan and you'll get a dazed, drooling smile in response. I reserve judgment on the quality of a live Prince album until the big WHEN/IF happens and I have it in front of me (considering the amount of time it took for them to send my copy of ONA, my copy should get to Chicago sometime around July of next year).

Next, when you have a rich history, a quick wit, a wild imagination and a voracious interest in art and pop culture, and you just so happen to be a rock legend to boot, a daily online journal can be a very interesting read indeed. Maybe you're right, though - if Prince tried to write a daily rant, it would get stale quick. Oh, and for all you gents and sapphics out there, Bowie posts pictures of Iman's boobies in his journal. Just sayin'.

As fan sites go, Bowie gives fans something to be proud of and to brag about. Prince is just adding more fuel to the fire of his reputation as a wacked-out con-artist money-grubbing has-been paranoid ego freak with little-man syndrome.

But I'll always love SOTT and Lovesexy, so, you know, whatever...

Okay, I don't know much about Bowie I'll admit 2 that b4 people get on my case. SO I would like 2 know if Bowie has a record deal? Because he then obviosuly gets cash from that and can afford 2 be cheaper for his website unlike our man.

So why not go all they way? why not suggest that he does the same music that Bowie does?

each has his own style of doing things, if Prince wants to do it this way, he'll either change his mind once he sees that it doesn't work, or continue and enjoy his ways, but lose money and fans by doing so.

david bowie is a man of culture. Prince not. He's a man of faith.

a man of faith is often a actor too.
