IS THE NPGMC WORTH THE $100? I WANNA KNOW

I HEAR A LOT OF FOLKS COMPLAINING ABOUT NOT GETTING CD'S. WHAT ELSE COULD BE DONE DIFFERENTLY? I PLAN ON JOINING IN THE NEXT COUPLE OF MONTHS CUZ I WANT TO GO TO THE 2003 CELEBRATION. I WISH I WOULDA KNOWN ABOUT NPGMC BEFORE ONA CUZ I WOULD HAVE DEFINATELY JOINED TO SEE SOUNDCHECKS, HAVE GOOD SEATS AT SHOWS AND NO COVER AT AFTERPARTYS. PRINCE HAS ONLY COME TO PORTLAND TWICE. WHO KNOWS WHEN HE'LL COME HERE AGAIN. BUT I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT Y'ALL THINK!

IstenSzek, i agree. If they printed a few thousand copies and then put it up for sale on their site--then we could decide if we wanted it or not.
The current way the club is set up is way too frustrating for the avg prince enthusiast.

Prince makes albums on his own timeline, when he wants to--he's an artist and that's the way it should be...but it can be very frustrating to see 'coming to ur doorstep' in August and still see nothing in November.

Membership for NPGMC 2002 entitled people to purchase 2002 Celebration tickets. It seems unlikely that details of the 2003 Celebration will be announced until next year, by which time the 2002 membership will have expired.

If you are joining NPGMC for 2002 product i.e. One Nite Alone and whatever else is released, then you would need to join up before the end of 2002. Otherwise you may have to wait and hope that all the product features in the retail section for purchase by members next year, if you join next year - or is available to the general public sometime in the future.

If you are joining solely because you want to purchase tickets for next year's Celebration then purchasing this year's (2002) membership will probably not help you.

Yes NPGMC is worth it. I highly recommend you joining it, but not before January 1st 2003. I went to the London show on October 5th and that alone was worth $100 - soundcheck, show and a legendary aftershow all in one go. The reason I'd advise against joining now is that it wouldn't be worth your while - Prince probably won't play the Us again this year, and you'll be able to get the live disc in the shops or via Amazon fairly soon after it's released. Joining now would mean paying $100 for two CDs. I'd like to see Prince release a lot more archive material from his vaults on CD next year. I wouldn't mind paying for a properly mixed official version of "The Work" bootleg series, for example; or a whole series of vintage live shows. And more new material. We shall see.

Hey, if you don't mind throwing down the 100 bucks for the opportunity to purchase passes to the Celebration, then go right ahead.

But if you're joining it with hopes of great new music, save your money and wait till it appears on the shelves.

I love the "idea" of getting a new Prince CD delivered to my door, exclusive to me as a member. I think it's kinda exciting to wait for the album to arrive and there's a degree of mystery about it. BUT, only up to a point. Waiting for months on end isn't exciting, just annoying. And mystery soons turns into confusion, then frustration, and ultimately maybe at best apathy, or at worst, uncontrollable rage!

4 new CDs spaced out reasonably evenly during the membership year would, I'm sure nearly all would agree, make Prince fans happy. And a little extra information for members about what on earth is going on with various things relating to the club.

Hell, we may as well be in the "Digital Garden" for all the information we're given. I think that's often what pisses fans off most.

What'ya think?

Also, while I'm here...personally I much prefer getting music on a solid, concrete CD I can hold in my hand, rather than downloading it on MP3. I know downloads have their benefits but I just feel an album holds together better as a complete piece of work when it comes in a specific order, with cover art and a nice little jewel case. Admittedly, all of this could be achieved anyway with downloadable cover art and a clear case from Tandy's, but that's a hassle.

yeah but...bkk1981, the music isnt exclusive to you..you just get the chance to have it, first!!

i like the idear of having a tier'd program myself...

exclusive members pay the $100 and have access to celebration, concerts and music...

preferred pay a lesser fee..maybe $50 to have access to concerts and music..

and then have a gold program for $25 fee..these people get concert options and the choice of purchasing exclusive music...

whats wrong with offering options? isnt that what makes McDonalds so great?

come to think of it, this system would better allow prince to determine how many people are going to attend the celebration...and if other non exclusive members are soo jazzed to go, they can pay a $100 upgrade fee (plus whatever celebration ticket costs are associated with it)..i think thats fair...

should I email this to npgmc?

Dude if you can afford to go to teh Celebration in 2003 it is surely worth $100. But be prepared. I doubt they'll will be any guareentee that there's going to be a 2003 Cele.
I think its fair to say he loves doing it, but who knows?

In conclusion $100 is worth the gamble when it comes to Prince, but its just that: A gamble.

Make sure you have a healthy perspective on things before you join.

ha

For a $100 you can also help a child in a 3rd world country to have a home, food and education, thus supporting his/her entire country's future. Think about it.

No,

Prince will promise you one thing and do another.

For 100$ he promises you "at least 4 exclusive NEW cd's", but you only get them "first" and not 4 cd's, but one album he already sold to you last year on mp3 and one live compilation of 3 cd's that will be sold to the general public one month after you waited an entire year for it.

And for 100$ he promises you "exclusive live show oppurtunities" so you can buy for yet another 100$ a ticket "first" on his mal-functioning website, where the emplopyees don't answer your email questions. The website says ticktes will NOT be sold to the general public, but it in reality they sure as hell will... for yet another 100$.

If you want to be ripped off...

then JOIN The NPGMC

I asked this in another topic, and I'll ask it again here since this seems to be a more appropriate topic to ask my question in.

Let me get this straight? In year 1 of the NPGMC there were downloads galore, and I was very pleased with my membership to the first year. I even joined late and was allowed to download the months before joining to get the complete club for year one.

Now, in year two, if I'm understanding you all correctly. There are NO downloads, only the promise of 4 CD's, choice seats at concerts, no covers at after parties and that's it?

Hmmm...Well if my understanding is correct, I see no point in joining up for the remainder of the year at all. And will probably wait to see what is promised and the opinions of you all before I make my decision for next year's version as well.

Actually, it might b intersting 2 join now cuz u won't have 2 wait 4 months b4 getting any music since u'll get ur 4 CDs b4 december 31. But, xept if Prince suddently decide 2 send us more CDs than promised, don't xpect 2 have the tons of music we had during year 1... As 4 the concerts, it gives u access 2 the soundchecks & aftershows but u have 2 PAY more 4 this. Anyway, don't consider joiningg 4 concerts since the ONA tour is almost over 4 dis year. What we all consider unfair is dat in Year 1 we've had something like 10 CDs (if u incude MP3 files, Ahdio shows unreleased, live & alternate trax, TRC, Rave SE & the videos}, & dat in Year 2 we have only 4 CDs 4 the same price, which is not xactly normal... So eye don't know, maybe it's better u burn the CDs we'll get on a shareware & join next year if the MP3 system comes back. Maybe, like me, u WANT 2 have the original albums with booklets & all, in which case it's better u join... Ur choice...

If someone tells you its worth it and you join, but feel it wasn't worth it: will you sue them?

If you join and it exceeds all your expectations will you send MORE money to NPGMC to show your appreciation?

If you don't join and 2003 passes and you felt you should have, will you sue?
