3121 and the sad hypocrisy it contains... Well, with the advice from a fellow prince friend I am writing my first thread on the org....
Prince is a man we all look to for inspiration of some kind. One of the ways Prince inspires me is through his active and obvious love of animal rights. Currently, I am so disappointed in him and the hypocrisy involved in this situation... On 3121.com there is a section that says all the women in the Chelsea Rogers video are wearing designs by Matthew Williamson. I clicked on the link and it took me straight to Williamson's site. I had a bad feeling. So, I decided to snoop around and see if my hunch was right. What did I find on the very first page of coats?? One made of lapin...rabbit fur. My heart DROPPED! Back in 1999 I read an article P had on his loveforoneanother site that touched me so deeply, I went vegetarian - cold turkey - that day. Because of him I started my whole animal rights crusade. I'm eyeball deep in it now and while it can be frustrating a lot of times, it makes me feel great to make a difference. It felt even better knowing someone I admired and followed for years felt the same way. The song he wrote...the stories he wrote...the pics he showed ... all to help animals ... and now this. Even the C. Rogers song has a line in it about being good to animals. I just shake my head and it tears me up inside that he could promote a designer that takes part in (what I thought P identified as - and I def do) such horror and disgust. Fur farms are one of the cruelest things humans have inflicted upon this world. It disappoints me to no end that Prince is hand in hand with it. I thought if any celebrity would do the right thing and lead the world by example it would be him. So, my morality is more important than my entertainment and I have to turn my back to P a little bit. I've written a few letters and while I don't want to see him in hot water with peta or whoever, I would love to see that link taken off his page. I would love to see him do what's right..be on the same side of what he's been promoting all these years. He's continuously fighting for principle and what he deems as right. Now, that's what I'm doing. Until then, I'm just sooo disappointed. In essence, he was my guiding light. So, I'm feeling let down and while not lost bc there are so many other places to turn, I feel like my guru is gone and that makes me sad. Regardless of where each of us stands in the fight for those without a voice, hypocrisy and priciple ring true with us all. Against hypocrisy. Against duality. For truth. "Questionaire, What did U stand 4? Questionaire, Who did U save? When it gets right down to-wait a minute When it gets right down to the nitty of the gritty When it gets right down to it U take more than U gave" Thanks for reading. I'm eager to hear your thoughts. if anything, let it make you feel better about your OWN convictions, and remember that the changes you made in your ethics and in the decisions you make are YOURS, not something you do because prince supposedly does it. cuz ya know, prince may change his mind about his beliefs (ya think? ), but you have to ask yourself...do you now change YOUR beliefs because he did, or is it bigger than just the act of being a devoted fan?

Well, I thought about the fact that he may not know. As much as I doubt that, aside from posting on boards like this and hoping that he sees it, there aren't many ways for me to contact him!! lol So, I'd like to give him the benefit of the doubt, but I have a suspicion that he'd be aware of it...
Yes these are entirely my own convictions. This is an adventure I chose for my life and one that I really enjoy. Adopting these thoughts and behaviors wasn't so much the act of being a devoted fan and doing what he did ...but it was something I discovered and explored because I cared enought about what he wrote to read through the literature he afforded me. It resonated in me and it was another reason to think Prince was just super. lol So, I do give a nodd to him in that light. I'm not convinced that he changed his beliefs. Perhaps he did. I'm not going to completely rule out that hypothesis. I'm just saying it seems unlikely. If I remember correctly one of the lines in Chelsea Rogers says, "Chelsea don't eat no meat, but she still got an a** like a leather seat." Ok, he's talking about Chelsea yet it still gives the perception (I think) that veg is (or can be) hot. The best predictor is the past and if he's consistent that would be a message he'd seemingly want to convey... Analyzing his lyrics aren't what I mean to focus on...just a point that stuck out in my mind... Probably because I particularly like that line haha I'm blue about it. Thanks for the feedback. LC

You're right fur farms are cruel.
Don't feel let down, Prince ain't no super Hero (Save the world, eat the vege burger ) We're all of us only human. Good and bad usually come together at different degrees. We gotta muddle our way through the mine fields. Seems you're doing better than Prince right now but then we don't know what he's up to half the time.

You just have to be true to your own convctions.
To be honest though, while I love Prince, I hardly think he's the best role model in the world. At times, rude, awkward, anti-semetic and homophobic, I say just stick on the records and turn the sound up!!!! Rain is wet.................

Fur looks GREAT by the way.
Also, to go veggie because Prince said so, well, that's just stoopid.

LC well, all i can say is maybe in this case the message was more powerful for you than the messenger. i happen to know that prince isn't a vegetarian anymore, and he's gone against his "cruelty free" stance on several occasions in past years. nothing terribly huge or especially distasteful - there have been reports of sushi being served at 3121 parties, or "seen and heard" items in the press where prince has been seen at restaurants eating chicken or fish...he hasn't been strutting around in a fur coat eating veal or foie gras as far as i know , but his dedication to a vegan lifestyle seems to have slipped over the past few years. and ya know what? that's okay if that's where life is taking him. if his period as a vegan inspired with you, then i hope you keep running with it. it sounds like that's what you intend on doing.
