MPGMC Protected Music... What Can I Do? Hi All,
Am I the only one? I hope not! I bought & downloaded C-Note, Xpectation, Chocolate Invasion, Slaughterhouse & the individual tracks like Glasscutter etc but now, after a horrible virus that affected my Media Player I can't play any of the tracks & when I try & update the licences the website doesn't exist so I can't. Can anyone help? J

Nope sorry to here that but unless you made backups thiers nothing you can do about it as the licenses dont exist no more since the club closed down.

Well, the "good" news is that you're not the only one stuck with expensive, useless DRM-locked WMA files. I also bought Slaughterhouse/Chocolate Invasion, and all the individual tracks and live collections (except for the Larry Graham live track that went up in the last few weeks of the club's short existence), including that $12 video clip of the Fallin'/Question of U medley. I know it totals well over $50 and probably closer to $100 worth of music (and a video or two), all bought in 2004 -- and a year later, the DRM police kicked down my door and smashed all my music to little tiny pieces before setting it all on fire.
Why did those durn DRM cops take it upon themselves to destroy my so-recently-bought OFFICIAL digital Prince music collection?? Because my computer went screwy and I had to reinstall the operating system. I didn't lose any of the files on my hard drive, but the music purchased from the NPG online doesn't recognize my computer as an authorized playback device ---- which would be FINE, except the NPG turned off the lights and immediately stopped paying the license server. So although you, I and countless others paid for the music directly from the official, authorized source, and although any of us could easily prove ownership of the music by getting the bank or credit card info from a few years ago, and even though there is no legal, moral or other doubt that we SHOULD be able to listen to this purchased music not only NOW, but AS LONG AS WE LIVE (or until we give it or sell it to someone else).....there's no recourse. Kinda makes you wanna just pirate your Prince music in the future, doesn't it? No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.

I am relatviely confident I can strip the DRM.
Can someone email me one of the files (the smallest one would be good). new_power_soul@hotmail.com [Edited 10/5/07 5:31am]

You can find all of those files for free if you know how the internet works. Simply redownload for free what you paid for originally. "Don't you think one of the charms of marriage is that it makes deception a necessity for both parties?"

OK, I've been working the files and have got an answer for you all.
It's good news and bad. Bad news: Prince's music is safe, there is no way to remove the DRM. Good news: If you have the licence, you can obvioucly burn to disc and then rip to mp3. Further bad news: If you don't have the licence, you stuffed. It is imposssible (ie there is no software/freeware available) to remove the DRM.

There are those who want to hear the music they purchased, but can't because they no longer have access to the license(s). There may be those wanting to sell/trade the music, but can't without running the risk of a smackdown. I'm not hatin', I'm just sayin'. These are not like original CDs that can be legally resold, once they are out of production, for as much as 10 times what they sold for. How much was Rave In2...remix CD? Now, you can't get it for less than $50 -$100+. How much was the One Nite Alone Piano Solo and Voice download (I really don't recall) compared to how much the CD is selling for used. Damned if U Do...
