Members of the NPGMC

What are the top 3 reasons you joined the club?

1. For me it was mostly to be a part of it all
2. For the music
3. For first dibs at concerts

Let me first say, regarding being a part of it all. Long ago, the only type of information you would get regarding Prince was searching magazines, or other type of printed media - or having your VHS tapes handy to catch what played on the television. So I am very satisfied with him having a website - even though I am disappointed that it isn't interactive or freindly.

That said, let me address the music. There seems to be a void of some sorts - perhaps Prince is deep into his religious studies and hasn't written any new songs? I don't know, but what we have received so far appears to be considered old and already played or given up for download at the club a year ago or more...

Lastly, living in Minnesota - we didn't have a concert! lol So basically - we haven't had that wish fulfilled... sad The Celebration cost extra $$$, so I cannot consider that a part of the members fee, since so many non-members got to go...smile

I am very interested in hearing your reasons for joining, and if you think you have gotten what you paid for. This isn't intended to bash the club - but perhaps to enlighten them as to why you joined, and how it might be improved in the future.

Thanks in advance!

biggrin

I became part of it to basicly slag it off.

Na, kidding.

1. Also to be part. Even though I liked the SEARCH IT YOSELF part better, maybe. If I see what NPGmc offers when it comes to info and fun extra's it is nutting compared to what fi Bjrok fans get for nothing. Without the mysterious LALA.

2. Not to miss out on releases. I did not like the set up of year one, where you had to have a computer to make use of it.

3. Concert thingies. I wanted to be done with the spending hours in front of a ticket sales point. Now I spent four hours stressing behind the computer, afraid I was missing out. NPGmc was very fast in answering my streesed e-mail though...and I got tickets.

Although there are many other flaws, I think. When I compare it to what other artists offer (like Bjork or David Bowie) it seems there is a bigger bond between other artists and their fans. That itches sometimes.

I became part for the cd's and the concert extra's. Even though I did not like the majority of year one's downloads, Prince's voice still carries the resonance of the force he used it with...before.
I am not dwelling in the past much. But I remember. And spot the differences.

Kiss! Nice to see your beautiful 'old' avatar...

I joined for two main reasons: The cd's and the concert ticket advantage. Now, I'm going to wait until the end of the year before I get all pissed about the cd's. I'm already pissed about the concert thing since I didn't get to go.

But that's another thread.

Essentially, I joined for the CDs. I wasn't sure whether Prince would tour over here in the UK, so I didn't go into it expecting anything more than the CDs.

I was happy with the Club until recently with the European tour. The dream I'd had since 1985 to be able to sit in one of the front few rows of a concert AND be able to watch the sound-check was finally going to become a distinct possibility...

It was an unbelievable dis-appointment when, no matter how hard I tried to get a pre-sale ticket, I couldn't. The website was ridiculously slow (Even on Broadband) and when I then saw the Sold Out notice I couldn't believe it.
Now I know that the concert passes aren't guaranteed, but I'm sure that I'm not alone when I say that once the tour dates had been announced, I assumed that I would get a concert pass.

At this stage, I'm also getting dis-appointed with the CD situation. Initially, I quite liked One Nite Alone - despite it's short length and flimsy cardboard case, but to be honest I haven't played it in weeks. We now have a promise of the 3CD ONA Live set, but I've got little enthusiasm for it because it will simply remind me of what I missed out on with the tour. I like to think that in a few months my enthusiasm for Prince will return, especially if the other CDs are satisfactory (I'm pretty sure that we'll get two more releases), but one thing's for sure - I will most definitely NOT be renewing my subscription. Membership doesn't guarantee concert privileges and for me, half the year has just been a void. Thank God for the .Org, otherwise this year would have been pretty much Prince-free.

I'll end with a question - how come people who aren't happy with the NPGMC accept that there are many people who are happy with it, but the people who are happy with it refuse to accept that some of us aren't?

I joined because I didn't want to miss out on something cool?! Yeah, what did I know? This year has sucked binwah big time, I mean last year was a drag in downloading shit every month, but there was definately a sense of satisfaction every month after downloading everything, then that feeling of excitement knowing that in 30 short days, a new batch of goodies was coming. Obviosly this is a very weathered topic, we all have read the many bitch posts and flamers have had their way with the newbies, but there has to be a happy medium here. Something every month i.e. a downloadable track or 2 and maybe a video, plus the quarterly CD. I'd be very content! I'd really appreciate some kind of interaction from the club though... I mean, the club site is now a VERY lame website, that has nothing new or fresh to say! He could do better... we all know it!

So how about those Minnesota Twins eh?! WooHoo!!lol

You brought up an exellent point. Prince tends to appear to dig and love his fans on stage...but upon a closer look (esp if you go to many of the same concerts), he repeats the sames lines...like a script. Not to mention, when he leaves the stage... he is completely off-limits 99.9% of the time.

neutral Good point, Gooey

sad I can only imagine how disappointed you were... I am truly sorry for that sad

In response to your question...the year isn't over yet - and the rest of the club perks are still open to be fulfilled...imho. But yes, to each his own, and no one should be slammed for their opinion.

A bit off the subject for a second...

LaVisHh, I'll be in Minneapolis for my brother's wedding in a few weeks, maybe there'll be a parade around the same time for THE WORLD CHAMPION TWINS eh?! I was a senior at South High in Minneapolis when they won the 1987 world series... damn that was a great time to live there!! I am trying to kove back there hopefully next year or 2004 at the latest!

Now, back to the subject...

Haystack... sorry about your luck...seriously! I live in Cleveland right now and we were fortunate to be one of the very first shows of the american leg of the tour. I went on-line to see just how ridiculously priced the seats were, finally settling for an $85 ticket with tax cost $100... in the balcony... just to have my wife get going on a project at my house that required me to get to a certain point before I could go... can you see where I am going with this?... which needless to say I didn't get to causing me to miss the show!! How about them apples? As it turns out, the Cleveland show, albeit it okay (from reports) wasn't what it is now... which again leads me to Haystack, sorry about your luck!

Gooey, good points as usual! With all the artist sites now popping up, it bothers me tremendously as well, that our club feels as if there is a very intentional wall between us (the fans/patrons/whatever) and Prince! Again, he could do better! (For us!)

hey Lavish, Girl... smile

my reasons 4 joinin' The NPGMC was 2 do more than just say "eye'm a Fan of his Music & have loved the IDEA of Love4oneanother". eye put my $$$ where my mouth is & JOINED soon as eye had access 2 a PC. once me Wife & eye got 2gther & she had a PC eye was like we gotta join 2gether. she was ALREADY a Member so eye was like "SWEET".

it's all about the Music & havin' the perks of Prefered Seating @ the Concerts & havin' the Xclusive CDs a what nots. what's odd is that everytime a P song (old ofcourse) comes on where eye work ceratin co*workerz of mine look my way. it's more than just sayin' "Oh I just LOVE, When Doves Cry". dayum... P's had MORE music 2 come out since then & or since KISS...

but it's all about the Music & even if he didn't gives us DownLoads or CDs or Prefered Seating eye'd join just becuz it's his Club & i feel PRIVLEDGED 2 join smile

Gr8 Thread by the way!!!
Peace ... & Stay Funky ...

I joined for the concert perks. The only benefit from being in the club this year, imo, is:
1. free access to aftershows/parties
2. access to celebration
3. access to soundchecks

SO, if you couldn't afford to travel to the celebration, and didn't have a concert in your city, then u kinda got screwed.

I DID get to attend the celebration and 2 concerts, so I feel I did get my $100 worth. I feel bad for those who didn't..

Indeed, anemone...without the Celebration (even tho I had to add $250 to the $100)...I would have felt cheated by the membership...not because I was out of $100...but because of all the fun others were having!

See there was no ONA tour in MPLS lol sooo... without the Celebration, I would have not been very happy, but I still would want to be a part of the club at $100 - wishing it were better - like many others who really appreciate his music and want to support him (even with what little we sometimes get in return)

I joined for the music.

The 'concert stuff' can only be viewed as a nice extra or perk, as not all members will have the opportunity to take advantage of it.

That only happened on the first day of presales due to technical difficulties. It was all rectified within about 8 hours, and there were tickets available for all the UK concerts for the whole of the following day.
