I paid 99 dollars at the start, got 12 hours worth of radio style shows with lots of live recordings that were unavailable elsewhere, a number of live mpegs, a large number of unreleased songs (some of which are amongst my favourite prince tracks)...a number of rare released songs that would cost a fortune...e.g. 'supercute' and the 12" mix of 'Paisley Park' 2 copies of the 'one nite alone' piano album....one of which sold for 80 dollars on ebay recently...the xpectation album as a download...i think there was more, but let's face it, all in all it was just a con...

and don't even talk about what's been going on recently...I been buying tickets for these O2 shows, and they've cost me over £30 everytime...disgusting!...for £90 i can get one ticket to go to a police concert(and sting does more stuff for the environment than Prince)...and then when i went to the concert, i was given a free copy of the planet earth album...i mean for fucks sake...i paid £1.50 for it when i bought the daily mail...i can't believe i wasted that £1.50...i could have bought 3 mars bars for that...

No one got ripped off by the club. The last year, there was not even a renewal fee. If you ever feel like complaining, just remember the seating opportunties we were given.

to spell it out - i thought NPGMC was an absolute bargain - not only a pioneering attempt to distribute music through a new medium, but excellent value for money

Exactly, well said - to get to go to sound checks, and aftershows, aswell as having front row seats for shows?...you can't put a price on that kind of opportunity...i miss the NPGMC!!!

I always thought it had something to do with the divorce settlement/contract or whatever, so I just chalked up to the way of life. Yes, I did lose a lot of my songs, but I knew better and thought about downloading them on CD just never got around to getting them all. I just really miss the intimacy, I hate sharing.

Diosuni.....Don't worry about it! You and I and a whole lot of others were ripped a new one by NPGMC!
Riddle me this?
You are a lifetime member of what club? eek Or how about this! You join a health club and then they moved away? And if you don't think you were ripped a new one then a lot of us fans neutral are not bending over far enough to look!

i guess it depends when you joined as to how much value you got out of it...to me a years worth of downloads was worth $99...let alone the rest...i used to be so happy when it came to the time of the month when the new tunes were added, just to see what was there

been watching some of the mpegs this week actually, for the first time in a while...a friend wanted to see a version of if i was u're girlfriend live, so i dug out the files....amazing stuff....and 'one song'....such a beautiful track (though i'm not sure about the speach at the begining!)

We don't have to like all that he is doing, but we don't have to defame his character and his work. Some "fans" are downright mean just for the sake of being mean. If you don't think that his being called all kinds of nasty names, and being called an exploiter of his fan base, in a prominent thread that was the headline for weeks, just in time to welcome him to London, had nothing to do with the current situation, then I have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you. I wish he would bring back his music club, for the great seats and the ease of getting tickets. I want to get my information straight from the source, and if he feels like having his own little video forum, all the better. We as fans need to be more responsible, more ethical, and more respectful. I have not looked at sites of other artists, and I wonder if other artists, who may also be living legends, and musical geniuses, and who provide a whole lot of access to their fan base, have to listen to all the crap he has to listen to. Those who share my viewpoint need to speak up and show our faces. Not all the fans want to be back in 1984. I was 18 then and it sucked. I am 41 now and those who know me now I am no brown noser. I grew up with his music. I was blessed to be in the presence of musical genius, in close range on numerous occasions. What do I have to complain about? Where the hell is the exploitation? If someone made a serious allegation of exploitation against me, I would be inclined to contact a lawyer. Just food for thought, for those who I am sure are reading.

No matter what site I go to, my 1st priority is Prince. If I thought Prince was the enemy, as a lot of you "fans" think he is, I sure as hell wouldn't be here talking about him, let alone spending any kind of hard earned money on him. I was able to see shows, get great seats and meet folks from the NPGMC. It was not bad. There were wackos but that's a fansite for you. Look at this place. lol I wish people would be more objective with the situation. I believe that there may have more stuff than what we saw as to why NPGMC shut down but knows. In the end, it's all about the music.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Well, just add to that that Prince doesn't have to do what he is doing, and you've got the whole story. He could have really gotten his Midas touch back with what he did to release Planet Earth, but he is not acting with good karma. I am more often than not just finding myself saying what he said in "Rave Un2 the Year 2000" video - "...let's just get on the stage."

Good point there, and it brings to light the concept of "lifetime membership", and just how long is it? Specifically, it is not for the lifetime of the purchasing member, but for the lifetime of the club. That's why I only got the basic monthly charge. It was good enough, and I got 2.5 hours of good stuff from that alone.
