Web Sheriff did not mention going after any other site, weather this is on the agenda is another matter. The Org was mentioned by the Quakers when they was saying they have images on the site but Web Sheriff never replied to them posts.

Now you got me on the hunt lol

There's nothing to hunt for. If people would have an understanding of how the internet worked, they'd know where to look for just about anything they wanted.

That's the thing. Websheriff said a whole lot of NOTHING. People kept asking him very specific, very direct questions and he either kept avoiding/ignoring them, or replying with some vague legal speak and refering them to ask the HQ mods. Funny thing was that some of the people asking the questions were mods and then TurnitUp (who is sort of the legal compliance mod) came on and told Websheriff to either answer the questions that they could or state why they would not answer. The mods were even asking Websheriff to answer them and the other questions and he kept dodging the questions. Then Aaron & TurnitUp went off line so they decided to lock the thread (I guess because they wanted to make sure things didn't get out of hand w/o legal monitering?) and they asked Websheriff to please not post until/unless talking to Aaron or TurnitUp. Websheriff did not listen, posted more legal stuff, and that's why he got banned.

Websheriff is why attorneys get a bad rap. It is really disgusting how he has bilked Prince and other celebrities into doing this crap and making money off of them. He kept posting shit about piracy, which has nothing to do with HQ. I'm pissed the thread was locked before I got a chance to ask Mr. Websheriff about how his fight against thepiratebay.org is going. lol

~~BTW--Aaron, TurnitUp, or other HQ mods: if you read this and feel I have misspoken/misrepresented what happened, please feel free to correct me.

Funny thing is the main individual (and it was mostly just the one same person) who kept bringing up all the photos posted on the Org actually posts here fairly often--under a different name. confused Very disappointing behaviour that someone who posts here and there would nark the Org out like that.

I'm sorry but the mods were quite volatile towards him, and it seems to me that he was trying to answer in the most polite way possible. Even if he was dodging questions the whole exchange just created a very bad atmosphere, understandbly so, but yeesh! Just think WebSherrif joining was a bad idea.

No shit it created a bad atmosphere! lol Thanks mainly to Websheriff. Websheriff is an idiot if he expected people to enjoy the fact that he was there and not try to bust his balls. He's lucky no one told him to straight out fuck off (but that's against the rules. lol ). I didn't think any of the mods were being rude, I thought they were actually quite civil considering the circumstances. They and many other members were just trying to get him to answer questions instead of being evasive. If you though HQ was mean to him, check out the legal section of www.thepiratebay.org biggrin

oh believe me, i blame him too for stepping into the lion's den, but equally I did not see civil behavior, but that's just me. alot of the anger and hostility was coming at him in a rude manner to me, but i guess you can't consider it rude if it is justified...i guess shrug

I don't know if this guy is an attorney or not. Take a look at his website that has his picture all over the intro page. It refers to him as a 'internet policing expert' and that the company was set up by a parent company, 'Entertainment Law Associates'. http://www.websheriff.com/intro.htm

The link below is interesting, read the comments between these folks and WS. WS claims to issue tens of thousands of DMCAs EVERY DAY.

http://www.techcrunch.com...ner-music/

Here's info on how to respond to a notice:

http://fairusenetwork.org...tback1.php

A poster elsewhere called the WS guy by his first name and talked about knowing what his agenda really is. He inferred that WS will be using Prince as a big marketing ploy and that he'd be using stuff from the fan website(s) in his Power Point presentations for sales. i.e., 'look at all the stuff we took down...', (nevermind that a lot of the demands aren't legally valid.)

I wonder if Prince even knows much about this deal beyond telling his minions to find someone to get stuff removed and they got suckered in by this guy.

Not entirely true - I had to go offline so I emailed Web Sheriff and asked them to hold of posting for a bit.

I do feel this is being blown out of proportion a touch.

ps - Prince.org should NOT feel safe by the way. I'll be emailing Ben today on the subject.

Ok - short version - all my personal views and in no way should be viewed as those of Aaron or Housequake.com

Some time ago, HQ, Princefams, and the org were asked to remove concert photos from the O2 events. Princefams and the org removed them, HQ did not on the grounds that they did not (in their opinion) breach copyright laws.

NPG Records then offered some official O2 shots in exchange for removal which was agreed to but the photos were never delivered. Some time later, NPG Records hired an organisation named Web Sheriff to liaise with HQ for removal which was agreed to for a set period to try again for the agreed compromise. Again, NPG Records declined to go forward and the photos were returned to the site.

By pure coincidence, HQ then received a very large amount of allegations with regards to content on its site including copyright transgression, infringement of goodwill, illegal use of trademarks, liblel, defamatory comments, and many others.

Whilst a phenomenal amount of work has taken place behind the scenes to resolve things through compromise, HQ were placed under no illusion that it was likely that legal recourse would be taking place in multiple jurisdictions. Aaron then agreed to remove the O2 photos and allow Web Sheriff to post and explain their beliefs.

At that point, in short, all hell broke loose and things got very emotional. Therefore Aaron's closed HQ whilst a sensible way forward is decided and every breathes for a bit.

Hope that helps explain things.

Okay Gav, why didnt you just save yourself the time and hassle and done what the others did and remove them this would not be seen as bowing down to Prince its respecting his wishes.

And you say Emotional it was a public lynching and i wouldnt be suprised if you knew that would happen. God knows what would happen if prince ever gave a interview to Housequake.

Good question about why didn't we make that move in the first place ?

You have to understand the backdrop to all this in that we'd been receiving demands from the NPG team on an almost daily basis for things such as headers, photos that Prince didn't like, statements made on the website, etc.

The O2 photo removal originally did not come as a request, it came as a legal threat. We then very politely pointed out that there is no legal reason for HQ to remove them, however we were concerned at the huge amount of "one way traffic" we were experience. For example, the org have had exactly the same "offensive" images (the 18 year old street pictures with P in an afro) yet had not received any request. NPG refused to admit that they were asking for moral reasons and not for legal reasons and the whole thing became a major issue.

We then polled the members to ask what they thought and we got a very firm "do not remove them" back. At this point, the NPG team I feel recognised this issue and offered "xclusive" photos in exchange for us taking things offline. Such a shame they didn't deliver as this would have all blown over ages ago.

Public lynching? hahah, I see you have a flair for the dramatic. There were about 10 people who were frustrated and being baited by web sheriff... he was there for no other discernable reason, I asked twice.
If anyone "knew what would happen" it was websheriff. It's his job so enter fan forums and see whats going on. Perhaps HQ should have known, however my understanding is that WS had been asking for access, (which I assume is why he posted the "thankyou" thread"... if he was there to be a silent observer then there was no need, but he claimed to want a debate, then porceded to bring absolutely nothing to the table.
