Shall I join the Club?

I'm kinda new to this though I've been a Prince fan since the mid 80's.

I'm thinking about joining the NPG music club but I don't know what music is available in the club to buy or download.

The thing is I'd like to get new music from Prince but the site doesn't tell you much about the actual content.

I know you get 4 new cds a year but my concern is paying for something that I know nothing about. Usually one buys a cd because they've heard and like the tracks, you don't get that choice here, there are no previews or promo material to sell the music. It's a bit exploitative really.

But I like most of Prince's shit so whadoIdo? All I have to go on is what you folks think about the music curently available there.

C'mon whatchoofolks think?

Good question.

I must say that for me the reason to join was the concert extra's, like attending a rehearsal. It was a gamble, as I do not know if he's coming to Europe yes or no, but still. Also I could spare the money.

The actual joining was fired up by attending this site and getting enthousiastic again after many years.
BUT;
the release of One Nite Alone dissappointed me. There are two songs on it that are GREAT, but the rest was musac to my ears.
And after hearing all the songs released throught the net of year one... geez. All those songs were just second rate... there was a GRRREAT rehearsal the last month; Rebirth Of The Flesh with the Lovesexy band and one or two other songs that were kinda nice (Splash & Van Gogh) but the rest was not really considerate.

Prince to me does not make the NPGmc live up to it's potential. Look up my thread called PRINCE ONLINE (do not pat attention to all the posts in there as they are just fun, mostly)

But that is another story completely.

It's really a personnel decision. I joined in it's first year and we recieved a lot of downloads that I really enjoyed. This year we are recieving cd's in our mail. I like the fact that I will get new cd's sent to me that no other person in the street can get and I reaaly enjoy getting new music from Prince. So if you can aford it, why not! music

heh...like what? the hissy tape copy of horny pony with the anti-extramarital sex computer voice at the beginning? or the thieves in the temple remix...again, hissy and from a taped fuggin' copy...and available for over 10 years. and keep in mind this was a month that was late in its delivery and we were told to hang on, 'cus he had something special in mind for us. year one was bogus, although there was lots of good stuff too if you're an incurable hardcore fan like me. year 2? well, i'm psyched about all this new ONA live talk and of COURSE the xenophobia live talk...but never once has he come even close to living up to a mpgmc-related promise...so whatever. i guess the verdict is still out...though i got my money and then some with the concert experience i had...seriously one of the most intense moments of my life. well worth a hundred bucks...which by the way ain't exactly chump change for lots of people, including myself.

I know I'm in the minority here, but I enjoyed a number of the downloads in year 1. I thought all of the ahdio shows from 6 (or so) on were a blast and really dug some of the trax (like hypnoparadise redface)

But, that's kinda pointless to discuss here since downloads are a thing of the past.

I'd say if you really like Prince and you have the extra cash and you are patient, why not? You're gonna get some new music, although you may wait A LONG time.

One last thing, where do you live? If you live in or near an area Prince tours around, it'll make the club a million times more worthwhile. If you're in a country he never visits, though...it's a tough choice.

I joined last month motivated by the rumour of a Euro tour. Only two downloads currently available. One truncated version of live "1+1+1=3" (awesome) and "silicon" which sounds like a reject from the come album. No album in the post yet, cryptic messages and not a lot else. I felt like I was always missing something but not so far! I think year one was probably worth it. If you have a spare $100 then go for it, otherwise wait for some hard evidence that you will get something for your money.

I thought year one had some interesting downloads, the ahdio shows were kind of fun too, not to foreget the the trc album. although I am from europe the investment into the 2nd year of the npgmc was more than worth while because I had the chance to attend the celebration.

I think just having the chance to attend a sound check, the concert and a possible after show is worth while the investment, if you live somewhere near where he is playing. last but not least I really did like the ona cd.

Okay, looks like I'll be joining then.
I guess subscribing for a year at that price isn't too much of a risk, after all.

I live in Manchester England so I'm really in it for cds and any uk dates he may do.

Thanks for your help guys and gals.
