Prince if you should open a new fan website with forums included If Prince opens a new website with forums included, it would be nice if he sets it up like myspace, for members to have the option of approving the comments posted to threads a member or a moderator starts. This way, not only can his staff rule out most of the negative comments that sort of destroys the positive flow of a thread, fans themselves can have the option of approving or disapproving comments made to their posts. After all, it's the posters' thread, so they should have a right to rule out the comments made on it.
Too bad that wasn't thought of before the club shut down and maybe it would not have chase some fans away to other sites because of some of the negativity that flowed through that club sometimes. The ignore key was okay, but not effective because other fans would copy the ignored members' comments and post it so that the one who had that member on ignore, would see it on another post anyway, and it would start arguments there. What they need to do is have a "3 strikes you're out" rule. Make it a rule that speaking about another member on any thread in a negative fashion for all to see would cost that member to have their account deleted, after 3 warnings. After the 3rd and final warning, then ban them for good, 3 strikes you're out buddy! As far as that same person trying to open another account under a different name, that might be the hard part, but not so hard if they return with the same exact vibe against other members. I know some people may not think it's a good idea to have forums again, but having forums is a way for fans to stay connected to other Prince fans and finding friends.I think it would be a shame if fans couldn't connect with each other if he opens a brand new site, especially with the advantage of making new friends, meetups, concerts, etc. Now before someone comments about the freedom of speech, no one seems to complain about it over at myspace. Myspace did a good thing allowing comments to be approved first before a comment is posted on its members' pages, giving the option for a member to delete a comment if they don't like what is stated before it's posted. Especially not having to wait for the myspace staff to delete it. Just like the ignore key on the old club site, but on myspace you can block or delete anyone you don't want on your page or limit your profile only to those you choose to correspond with. On myspace, from the rules I read, if somenone gives you a hard time, and if you feel you are being harassed by a myspacer, you can report it to the myspace staff and only after finding the evidence that someone is actually harassing you. then the Myspace staff can actually delete that person's account if they find proof of the harassment or verbal abuse. So Prince and his staff can have the same rules at the new website if he opens one, just to keep a positive flow going so everyone could feel comfortable joining and going to the new site, without being afraid of other members, especially if he is thinking about doing a tour and gaining new members. Of course I don't mean it should be like living in a kumbaya world and not being able to say how you feel about what the subject of a thread is all about, but at least you will think twice about "how" you respond to someone's thread before jumping all over them with hate, jealousy, malice and all the things along that line. We can agree to disagree without slamming the crap out of someone, me included , so this is just something for Prince and his staff to think about if he decides to open a new website with forums included. You make some very good points.
I too don't want the forums back. The only thing is there are a lot of people posting, so the flow of communication is going to be real slow because the moderators would have to read each comment before clearing it and there will be a lot of people posting.

prince never posted one single time at the npgmc, other major artists have done that. he didn't even say hi. [Edited 10/8/06 23:15pm] You f*cked it up

The only thing is there are a lot of people posting, so the flow of communication is going to be real slow because the moderators would have to read each comment before clearing it and there will be a lot of people posting. Wonder505, I know what you mean, but just like myspace you can block people you don't want to respond to your messages or just have the option of leaving it open to anyone, (public or private). If Prince should open a new fan site with forums, a fan can have the option of having a public or private thread when starting a thread, for all fans to respond to or just their friends can respond to it, it's that simple. And if a fan happens upon an undesirable or annoying poster, then they can block that poster from responding to any of their threads. It could be just like myspace, where you can only respond if you're a friend of that person and also have the option of approving or denying comments before they are posted to a thread you start, that would weed out any offensive or overly egative coments.. You would see the comment, but no one else can until you actually approve and release the comment for all to see or not approve the comment at all. This would make the moderators job easy. All they have to do is sit down and meet with someone over at myspace to see how they moderate their site. The moderators should still have the ability to view all threads (with exception of pms unless there is a cause to do so) just to make sure that nothing offensive is being said by one member against another on someone else's thread like they used to do on the old site, when let's say fan#1 would have fan#2 on ignore, and the ignored fan#2's friend or friends would copy the post to their thread for fan # 1 to see knowing full well fan#1 had fan# 2 on ignore, when that happened arguments would start and it would set an entire negative vibe throughout the forums. This is why is would be great if it was set up like myspace where you can block and approve comments posted to your thread. The moderators would step in only if absolutely necessary like for harassment, flaming remarks against other members or threads they find offensive all according to the owners' "house rules". We have to remember that the site belongs to the Artist and not ours personally and should respect his house. If any major problems arise then that fan should be given at least 3 chances, 3rd one being the final warning. After the 3rd and final warning they don't comply, simply ban them for 1 year, point blank. Forums on a new website can work and run real smooth if they are well monitored and adults that are suppose to be adults act like adults. True, much friendlier and you can weed out who you don't want to deal with. Also, if a new video comes out, the artist can post it to his page and myspace can also broadcast the premiere of an artist's video and have it available for members to post to their profile as well. Now that's good promotion especially with just about over 120 million myspacers being able to view the premiere of an artist's video and have the capability to post it to their own profile page. It's just like how myspace shows myspacers the advertisements when you sign in to your page.See these days you don't have to wait for the premiere of a video to hit mtv or vh1, it could be shown on myspace as well. Times have changed and now I see why the club had to go on hiatus to make those changes, but an artist can still have a website for his/her dedicated fans with the same design, rules and regulations as myspace, if they decide to have forums where the artist's true fans can connect and stay informed. An artists website is still valuable because an artist can see where the artist sort of stand with fans' interests musically, and even though we know Prince gives us the kind of music he wants us to hear, he has also asked for our opinions about a particular song, like just before the club closed down and also honored some of his fans requests, of what they wanted to hear at shows in the past, It's also still good for presales, etc., for an artist's most dedicated fans who more than likely, definitely come to see the artist perform. So although it is good what myspace is doing, I feel an artist still needs to have a website to stay connected with his dedicated fans, but we shall see and I sure hope his staff is reading some of these opinions on here.
