Contrast and Compare......

If u go to http://www.davidbowie.com and compare what you get for around $70 for annual membership to what we get for $100 and let me know if you think we're getting good value from the club, particularly if you can't take advantage of the priority tickets (high prices and USA/Canada only at the moment), or the Xenophobia event (high prices including airfare for most of us and tickets).

I've sent an email to NPGMC asking them the same question.

Apples and Oranges...
It would be like wanting to purchase a Lexus but before doing so, calling the headquarters explaining that Hyundai offers so much for so little, so could they match the price.
If dissatisfied with NPGMC, you could always join the online Bowie Army!

The answer is quite simple to me- since I could give a rat's ass about Bowie's music, I'd say the NPGMC is much more valuable to me.

4 someone supposedly so innovative as Bowie, his site sure is not. npgmc is far better and has a lot more perks IMO. bowie, cool. his site, ehhh. but a total bowiehead would probably think it's a good deal.

You get what you pay for, and I want Prince! If it wasn't for his music I wouldn't be part of the NPGMC, which is exactly why I'm not a member of Bowie's club. Actually, Bowie's club could be free and I still wouldn't be there.

I think some of you are missing the point. I'm not saying Bowie is better than Prince, I also find it strange that the argument is put forward that because it's a Prince web site, paying $100 for membership is perfectly justified regardless of content. I've used my friend's logon to get on to Bowie's web site, and I can honestly say that it's got so much more content on there than NPGMC.

This is what you get for your money, now imagine NPGMC applying the same principles to Prince:

Exclusive access to unreleased audio and video tracks, backstage footage, B-sides, rarities and live tracks
Personal journals and never before seen videos, photos and artwork

Ongoing contest and giveaways featuring rare prizes, autographed memorabilia and opportunities to meet David Bowie

A "Gallery" area showcasing members' artwork including original music, writing, photography and more

Access to exclusive webcasts (watch David in the studio)

Chat with David Bowie and guests (past guests have included Joey Ramone, Sandra Bernhard, Boy George, Tony Visconti, Gail Ann Dorsey, Mike Garson and many others)

Community message boards and chat rooms (you never know who might drop in)

5 customized e-mail addresses (yourname@davidbowie.com) and 10M of personal web space

Regularly featured links to cutting edge sites as reported by David Bowie and BowieNet members

OHH... I thought you might be comparing & contrasting the ONA version of Avalanche & the live version (forgive me, I've been away). If he released the version he did @ the Oakland ONA show, speakers would MELT! Blows the album version AWAAAY, sweetest arrangement you've EVER heard...

I think you've got a point that NPGMC could use some of the features that Bowie's site has to improve itself. Personally, I joined NPGMC purely for the concert perks and everything else is gravy. bowienet doesn't appear to offer the concert perks, so NPGMC wins the comparison for me.

Well, U will get the answer from the NPGMC soon - they will write that U suld join the "Bowie Club". I asked them the same questions a year before and this is the answer I recieved!

But I still think U are right - the should make some more 4 us. What do I have from the opportunity 2 go to HIS concert if there are no concerts in Europe??? Etc. Etc.???

I recently joined BowieNet and I have to say it is probably one of the best fan club/sites on the web.

It is an extremely interactive site, on joining you receive an exclusive live cd put together by club members (ie they chose the tracks and supplied all graphics and artwork for the cover). I have also opted for platinum membership, which is the same price as the NPGMC, this gets me a limited edition print signed by Bowie (worth $100 on its own).

On top of this there are all the extras that Rico already mentioned email, webspace, videos, member galleries, 4 radio stations, discussion forums, chat etc.

On the downside they are having technical difficulties at the moment so alot of it isn't working! confused lol

They give away (that means FREE) anything between 50 and 200 tickets for most shows depending on capacity.

Oh and I forgot to say David posts on the discussion boards and enters the chatroom on a regular basis.

There's also a forum called ASKDAVIDASKS where he will pose a question for you to answer. In return you can ask david a question, he picks the best one each month and replies to it. I only mention that bit cos' one of the questions cracked me up.

Q. Hello David, How do you keep love sparkling forever?

A. use LoveShine. wipe it on then wipe it off. keeps it nice and sparkling.

Now you won't catch Prince saying that willya' biggrin

It's worth pointing out that Bowie has A LOT more money than Prince these days so he can stand to give a lot more. Maybe P. just needs more cash? NPGMC needs some work, and I'm not sure i'll join next year. For people in cities where Prince didn't tour, they're really getting cooked.

Too bad, really, but I haven't enjoyed anything Bowie's done since "Scary Monsters"
