How NPGMC views the Org (and vice versa)

This might be an odd or touchy subject for a thread, but I'm kinda doing a check-in regarding perceptions between NPGMC and the .Org...it's a topic that interests me for several reasons, and I hope I can state those reasons sufficiently in this thread.

First off, we have a lot of fun with the club over here, because there's a lot of stuff we can get away with saying that can't be said over there. I'm not assigning a positive or negative value to that reality...it just is what it is. We can take the piss out of the club over here. Heck, we can even say the word "piss".

Still and all, one of my major and most prioritized housecleaning projects when I came to the Org as a mod was to mend a fence or two with the Club - I think it's fun to maintain a friendly rivalry between the sites, but it was getting just plain ugly here when I started as a Mod, and I wanted to do everything in my power to at LEAST build a civil bridge between the two sites.

Why?

Because, uh, duh: NPGMC.com is where we get the best concert tix. It's where we get the official goodies. Despite whatever flaws you can list, it's the official source for new Prince music, video and experiences. YES, there have been many times the club has been scooped by the mainstream media. YES, we could pick nits about the club until the middle of next year. But the fact remains: it's dude's web site, and the org is primarily a fan site dedicated to dude. It makes no sense for us to be at odds with the club, any more than may be absolutely unavoidable by way of our mere existence as a non-authorized fan site.

Also, I've talked to a lot of people from the club. Some NPGMC regulars, and some folks who work for NPGMC. They're good people. I like them. I wish I could interact with some of them more. I've learned that not everyone who posts primarily at NPGMC is a blind sheep fammy-fam. And lord knows we have a few fammy-fams here at the Org. God bless 'em.

I encourage Org folks to be as critical of the club as always, because you paid your money and you should be able to talk about what you like and what you don't like. We give a little more freedom for those discussions than a site ostensibly lorded over by Mr. Purplepants himself, so I hope everyone takes advantage of it.

I hope, though, that the Org isn't thought of as a free-for-all sounding board for any schmoe who wants to drag NPGMC through the mud without fair explanation. I hope when I make jokes about "putting the purple back in ur prune juice" and when people talk about being Prince's bottom bitch, we're all aware that it's being said in good humor and in good fun.

The Org is a wacky, sometimes out-of-hand environment. A bunch of us volunteer to keep the place somewhat sane, and we do it in our own free time, unpaid, completely out of love for the site and out of a love of Prince's incredible talent and output over the years. We do our best with the time and energy we have.

I have no idea if the PPs at NPGMC are paid employees or what their deal is, and I don't really know these days what the attitude is at the club toward Orgers. I'm just sayin' I see the Org and the club as both having important merits of their own and complimentary functions. The two sites enjoy a symbiotic relationship, whether we like it or not. I see the two sites as rival bowling teams who like to talk a lot of crap, but at the end of the day just like to have fun together.

I hope that's becoming the case moreso these days.

And that's my rant. Thoughts?

I love both places...There are good and bad at both. The NPGMC was the first chatroom I had ever been in and first online experience. Then people talked about this place both good and bad. I had to come here and check it out. I love this place as much as the other and the people I have met here in person are amazing. SO I have no gripes about the club or the org. No site is perfect and the real people make both places very interesting. That is just my twocents

This is funny because way back in time, the Org used to be thought of as fam/drone site of Prince by other websites and that infamous Prince newsgroup. Then when the NPG club opened, members here began to say the same thing about the members of that club. It was like "Whaaa? Which came first, the chicken or the egg?" syndrome to me.

But by all accounts, all sights have the same type of members, and eventually, the same type of moderation: good, and/or bad, or indifferent all rolled into one.

It is quite silly to argue over merits or "de"-merits of a website and it's members when we are all part of the same crazy purple thing and with all sitting our collective asses in a chair in front of a monitor.

For a "rant" that was awfully good, Anx! clapping I really can't think of much to add, as I don't communicate with the PP's so I don't know what they think of the org. shrug

Bravo! Encore!! clapping lol

The .org was my first chat and online experience (other than aimless surfing around looking for Prince info) and it is my home.

To me, the NPGMC is like going to your grandparents house. You're welcomed there, but you'd better be on your best behavior.

Because it is Prince's official site, when I do visit there I abide by the rules and because it is the best place for concert tickets I will always go there from time to time. But I have never liked the vibe of the place and that has kept me from wanting to find out more about it.

I am incredibly thankful for the NPGMC. I never go there, but when concert tickets are available, my ass will be first in line. We all have our own selfish reasons for what we like or dislike about the NPGMC. All I can say is that we are lucky as hell to support an artist who is so prolific. Hell, he releases more from the NPGMC than almost all other artists officially release. I remember calling 1-800-NEW FUNK over and over to get any new info.

Im rambling, but in a nutshell, Anyone who doesnt appreciate what the NPGMC and Prince delivers MUSICALLY for us needs to get a grip. We are lucky as hell to be a fan of Prince's

Sorry for the serious post. Its really out of character.

ORG is better hands down. I was a regular chatter at NPGMC. I was banned for giving crap to a shie-thead PP glorydazed idiot. Among other reasons, I was banned for “fishing”. This is when your comments are viewed as such to be made in line so that Prince might want to respond directly to them. In stark contrast to the statements of “Prince doesn’t chat here” I was banned for “fishing”. Soon after in my protest on the boards of the events that followed, I was silenced too on the board. So I am banned from any open statement making on NPGMC. Wish they would get their stories strait over there. I was told if I want to interact again I would have to fork over another join fee. Not like I or they need the money, it is princeiple however. I wouldn’t join again because NPGMC sucks outright.
News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so.

Well, this thread isn't about which site is better - sorry to hear you had a bad experience, though.

I like both sites, but I click with the org more. Mainly from the fact that I have met people that post in Music: Non Prince that have a vast knowledge of music and art in general. I love the hell out of Prince and I have enough information on the man to probably write a book or two, however, I don't just listen to Prince. I don't want to talk about just Prince all the time. Even though you have people like that here as well, I think the Non sort of balances that out a bit.

The Moderators, some not all about half, are ego maniacs that speak to any one they don’t ‘click’ with in condescending tones/text. Meanwhile not doing their jobs fairly due to biases that render them incompetent, all the while trying to bloat their petty egos with favoritisms, inner workings, secrets, and back stage babbling. If you have anything to say about the way things are run, you are silenced to save their state of mind.

I agree. "Knowledge" is not as well moderated as P&R here.

Something I might add... There seems to be a higher level of critical intellect here than at NPGMC, sad to say. Not surprisingly, though, considering the famish nature of that site.

i don't think it's as "fammish" as it used to be. i think a lot of the regulars there have chilled out, and only a handful of people there continue to give the club that reputation...that, and newbies who join thinking that prince roams the boards every day looking for questions to personally answer. but we get that kinda craziness here at the org too, all the time, trust me.

It's funny. From most responses here, it seems that nobody has read or understood what Anxy has written or proposed.

And what goes on there, goes on here, and vice-versa (as already has been stated). Its just personal feelings and past experiences (that are obsolete and long past) that tie one to a certain site as a home to defend and another to be seen as an adversary forever..

There obviously will be no "penis between us" (peace between NPG and Prince.Org). razz

i think some people got my drift and some people haven't. and i think to a lot of people, there already IS 'peace' between the two sites. i guess it's all a matter of perception. it is for me, anyway. on some levels, i feel really included by and inclusive of the club as part of the whole fan experience thingie. on other levels, i feel alienated by it, and i also feel i send out alienating vibes myself. it's all just a thing, i suppose.
