Imagine if you controlled the NPGMC for one year?

What would you do with that power?

And I'd sell ham sandwiches in the NPG Retail section. And I would only accept PayPal.
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Being realistic rather than optimistic biggrin

Release one song every month, maybe an extra one during the christmas period!

What do you guys think?

#1 - mirror club content at iTunes and thus reach more people and generate more revenue. Working with the dominant music provider rather than fighting them has benefits. Just ask U2.

#2 - completely redesign the UI for buying music/videos into something that scales.

#3 - offer full uncompressed CD quality versions of the music, either as a download or as a CD that is shipped. Perhaps CD-R's that are burned on demand to avoid potential inventory problems and to reach people who have download issues.

#4 - release vault material on a regular schedule. Say a new CD's worth each month or each quarter. Put the first 3 in place and then talk Prince into doing one of these as a test. I doubt he'd turn down the revenues this would generate if done right.

If the memebership fee stayed the same...I wouldnt go crazy.

Id probably release the videos that most people havent seen/know about like Pussy Control, 18 & Over, Empty Room etc.

Id put some new stuff in the refelection room/ Glam Slam room for the fans.

Id maybe have a long-standing memebrs bonus for us guys that stuck it out through the mess of years 1 and 2.

You know what - the stuff tehy did in year 1 and 2 cant have been that expensive to the little man, why not head back to that kinda stuff

I would reinstate the $100 annual membership fee right off the top! People want CDs and all this other shit available damn near every week but dont want to pay for it. This would maximize profits (because as Billy Sparks said in Purple Rain: "Dis is a Bitness!" or as Prince said in the 1985 MTV interview: "Cufflinks like these cost money"), bring some exclusivness to the club (the price would ensure that only the most devoted fans would be in), and it would make the production and release of new and old material more feasible and frequent.

I would revive some version of the monthly releases like the ahdio shows. Perhaps have Femi put something together on a regular basis (he was just hilarious on those old shows especially when he played a NPGMC member calling to complain about the length of one of the dowmload tracks). The rarities from the Paisley Park label like old Tony LeMans or Brownmark tracks are nice for the fan that has a large Prince collection - and even for those like me who have every damn thing.

A single video clip from a live performance would appease everyone - not a entire concert. I would release a peice a month to thwart bootleggers (they would at least have to wait several months before they could peice together any kind of reasonable boot release by which time I would have already made my money because these clips would be for sale - discounted for members; full price for non members). Perhaps an occasional free cyberclip willbe thrown out.

Freebies would include screen savers (people love these) and perhaps the lyrics to some of the songs that people always wanted to know. Merchandise would be left the same.

NPGMC does a good job in my opinion. It can only release so much material before there simply isnt anymore. Market saturation is always a problem to consider. Even Prince doesnt want all that stuff in the valut dumped out there at once. A new song every month is simply not feasible.

I do think that making some concerts avialble ona download basis or even on lo cost CD-Rs would be good - perhaps a gig or 2 from each tour. $100 members would snap these up at $40 or $50 a pop - what they already pay bootleggers for lesser quality.

The mission of NPGMC would be to keep Prince connected to his best fans through the internet. The contiuned independence of Prince and NPG Records through alternative marketing, communications, and distribution would benefit everyone except the black market. Since Prince works deals with the industry, it would acutally benefit them as well - ask Sony about the boat load of money they made on Musicology even though it wasnt the standard salve contract that tey give other artists.

All I would need is one day on NPGMC, just long enough to copy all the songs from the vault and get out of town.
