Well, since the club/Prince has decided to offer the song on iTunes, I can only assume that they heard a loud enough noise from members that this is something they should try, especially with a track designed to provide financial help to hurricane relief efforts. What better song to use as an experiment than one that is charitable? It can only generate more revenue this way.

I am going to purchase the track a second time through iTunes to show my support of this experiment. This goes back to why I have been saying that I believe it's more worthwhile to bring this up to the club in the first place. They have listened, and I applaud them.

Really, any audio or video file that can be played through your computer can be captured in some way quite easily, so, for those smart enough to figure it out, I still say DRM is quite pointless. Especially when it restricts some users from listening to the audio files at all.

but getting back 2 ure point of asking 4 a solution, who xactly have u asked 4 a solution? did u ask apple or microsoft as i suggested, the very ppl who can make a difference, or did u post a thread on prince's website? its a far sighted option 2 avoid targetting the ppl who count

I will be posting the topic on Apple's discussion boards -- but haven't done so yet. I did also post on NPGMC, and, at least in this case, it seems like my voice was one of many that was heard loud and clear.

But the DRM sure works on video files. though. Try converting those suckas.
If you've got a mac, try Snapz Pro from Ambrosia. Should do the trick...

i think u'll find it won't do the trick. instead of converting the files it'll record whats on ure screen, a completely different process 2 converting the files

there have been numerous programs over the past 10 years or so that have done similar jobs 4 the pc. u get easily find trial versions or freeware 4 the pc anyways, not sure about mac

anyways, if u cant get DRM windows media files 2 play on ure mac, how the hell r u going 2 use that software 2 record them with snapz pro???
You're right, it wouldn't convert the files, but if the end result if the same... No different from using Audio Hijack to get audio from the DRMed windows file into something much more mac friendly. I haven't noticed any drop in audio quality, so if works for me.

I wasn't really thinking of WMV files when I posted that, I haven't played with any of the DRM videos on my mac, so I couldn't tell you if that'd work. In the future I'm sure there'll be DRMed, mac-friendly video (think iTunes video store). Could use it on the .flv files in Cyberclips...

And speaking of my specific instance, I can get the DRM windows media files to work, but that doesn't seem to hold true across the board. My purpose for ripping the audio is to allow me to burn to CD, put on my iPod, etc...

that is another problem with macs, there is far less availability 4 programs that do cool multimedia stuff. and i'm not talking about the vanilla stuff that commercially available programs handle

Wow...I'd love to see an example of the type of software you're referring to.
