I haven't seen very many of Prince's videos so I'm glad for the opportunity; but honestly, when I do see new (to me) videos a lot of time I'm just not feelin' them.
Glad to see Mayte got more than one opportunity to wear that white angel outfit (Dolphin & The Holy River). evillol

PS. Are those Susannah's infamous pajamas in The Screams of Passion? biggrin

The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

You see her in it in "Same December" as well. At the part where he sings about an angel...

I think the lyrics "the picture upon the wall..one eye staring at nothing at all"from the Holy River are a reference to Prince's Purple Rain era, and his life in general before he changed his name. I think the eyes in the song are the eyes that appear in Purple Rain and the eyes that repeatedly have appeared on different albums throughout his career.

You are a genius eek

Actually, I noticed the same thing. It's part of a paper I'm writing... There's the "two eyes" that you see, for example, in the "When Doves Cry" video, that he also used on the set of the concert tour. The eye imagery in THR forms an all-seeing "third eye." It's a peaceful one in THR, seen from the center of a Romantic pink rose, whereas in "Same December," it's a vengeful version from the center of a gold record that crashes against the wall.

How about just offering us a dvd with ALL the Prince, Prince related videos from his entire career?

they would have to be un edited of course, cos most of us prefer the classic rude boy to the slow moving jw that he's turned into.

but wouldn't it be sweet to have a 2 or 3 dvd set with EVERY video from 78 to NOW?

and what if there were a rainbow children video movie? hmm...that could be wonderful.

oh well i guess i will wish in one hand and u know what in the other and see which one fills up first.

hey my mom has a stuffed raccoon that she rides around with in her car named rocky raccoon. lol

The videos aren't rare, kiss-ass.

I have never seen BET MTV or VH1 (Classics) even attempt to play em.

Sorry to butt in but yes, they've attempted to play them. lol

I have seen Mia Bocca multiple times on VH1 Classics (not every day, of course, but on several occasions), and the tail end of Screams of Passion (was very mad I missed the entire video!)

If you regularly try to watch the Request Hour on VH1Classic, you will eventually catch a few rare(r) Prince and Prince-related videos; I know for a fact they've shown Mia Bocca, Screams of Passion, Drive Me Wild, various other Vanity vids, Chic's 'Le Freak' video where Jill Jones is singing backup, He's So Dull, and Sex Shooter (not that that one's so "rare", but...)

The Classic Soul hour on VHClassic often shows Prince/Prince related videos, too.

I think your idea about the DVD sets with all the videos would be great. They are doing it with tv shows, etc. It would be a great and valuable collectors item. I wish I could find something like that on the Jeffersons and Red Foxx's show. I'd like to share that era with my daughter.

VH1 Request usually show bland old rock videos bored I cant wait till we get VH1 Classic Soul channel.

I have caught "He's So Dull" "Love Bizarre" "Glamorus Life" and "Jungle Love" on there but that was about it in the Prince camp

I agree that the bulk of the ones they show on Request Hour aren't so great, but that's where I've seen all those videos I mentioned in my earlier post...so it's not totally bored to watch, sometimes. I'm just glad they've shown some of those, because I'd never seen them before ANYWHERE.

Maybe you just need to watch Request Hour more often (suffer through the boring vids until you catch the good ones). razz wink

I saw all those on BET except NEVER "He's So Dull". Haven't seen any Vanity vids. sad

I liked when guests on 106 and Park played old school videos, even though it was a young audience. Snoop requested "The Bird" by The Time. biggrin

GOOD POINTS, all.

only... is the center of the 1999 vinyl the same gold record we see in "Same December?" I'll have to take another look at that. hmmm

This is a good round of clips. That Family video is a rare one. THe Holy River is as well. Reminds us of how great that Emancipation era was. There were alot of videos and TV exposure from Prince on this project. Videos I can think of included: Betcha By Golly Wow, Somebody's Somebody, The Holy River, Face Down - are there any othe official promotional videos? I dont think so
[Edited 8/29/05 6:29am]

Some of the above...and many more...have been available for free on Yahoo music for well over a year, at least. This, to my mind, makes them very un-rare.

http://search.music.yahoo...rince&b=26

And by the by, why the hell doesn't NPGMC show the cyberclips in high quality that could be viewed through your media player, instead of the garbage we get now?
But then old members no longer pay, and you get what you pay for.

They don't bother with e-mails anymore unless there's a buck to be made.
Thankfully, I have the org to update me on such matters, since logging onto the NPGMC for any reason other than buying music or tickets is as useful as a carrying a pair of skies on an August day in Death Valley, and makes about as much sense.

Yes a DVD anthology of previously unreleased prince promo videos would be a dream come true for us all, but it will never happen due to legal issues. Think about it. Prince owns the rights to some of the videos, Warner Bros owns the rights to some other videos, some videos are owned by both parties - and in these types of situations, very often neither party can release a specific video (or album as the case may be) because Prince may own the musical rights, and WB the recording rights etc. It's all mixed up and confusing but the point remains that the only videos Prince probably has full rights to release commercially would be his post 1999 work (the year 1999, not the album). I am assuming that since he was legally able to call himself Prince again in 2000, that this would be when his contractual obligations were completely finished. So before we get a DVD of promo clips from "The Rainbow Children" and "news", we better not ask for it. mad

fans keep paying money(by choice) to get the more-often-than-not lackluster trax and the very rare and unable to tranfer to dvd video.

we do it because no matter what he puts out, we will buy it.

so it's time for him to cater to his fans a little bit. he half assed did it with crystal ball, but it's time to do cb 2, 3, 4, 5, and a dvd set of all the vids, and the best of the live shows. or, put all the "unreleased" trax on npg, and let us at em for free and make our own sets. same with the videos. put em up, and let us pick out what we want and don't want.

and the rainbow children would have made for an interesting movie, or cgi anime.

but we'll never get it.. as quoted in jukebox with a heartbeat..

how can u give the people what they want, when u never give em what they need?

he will give us what He thinks WE need and never what WE Know WE WANT.

dacoon rambles on again.
