No disrespect but I believe there are over 200 songs on that website in some form or another, they just may not be ones you want. Feel free to find me another artist with over 200 songs on their website.

I'm not trying to start an argument but this sorta thread just gets boring after awhile. Trust me you and I share the same feelings but do we honestly need to continue to bitch and moan about it.

Prince is going to give us what HE wants, not what WE want.

So kick back and enjoy the many other artists this world has to offer.

If I were a new member of the club, it would be worth the $25 just to see those video clips. And the anticipation of things to come. I can just see Prince, ten years from now, recording some stuff one week and then releasing it through the club the next week just for club members and not in stores.

I thought that was the whole idea with the club...to release music frequently and as soon as he made it? shrug

This is why folks are complaining: he set the expectations very high, but the last year or so there hasn't been much music released. The PP's keep reminding us that "Prince is always writing and recording new music," but contrary to his earlier assertions, he's not releasing it, for whatever reason.

(Yes, there are currently a lot of tracks available for purchase, but most of the folks who rush to get new Prince music--and are now griping--already have all of that; some of it (e.g., Crystal Ball) has been out for years.)

Not sure if that was directed towards me or not but don't get me twisted in that same category please because I'm not. As I stated a new person could pay $25 and be like a kid in a candy store but visitors like you, me and many others could walk in and walk out because we have heard this stuff for years.

Also considering the average music listener may listen to music for a total of 2-4 hours a day max between commutes and while doing stuff round the house. It would take them awhile to listen to and get sick of 200+ songs. Me, I will always be harder to please because not only have I been a fan of Prince for 20+ years and have heard ALOT of his music, but I listen to music sometimes 10-12 hours a day and sometimes more.

So I'm not defending, I'm just stating the facts. Trust me I would love to have 10 songs a day but again it's not up to me it's up to Prince and it doesn't matter what he has stated in the past, nor what the PPs say because he will do what he wants, when he wants.

anyway. you're right, there isn't enough music imo either.
the club is basically membered by the remainder of the fan
base he had left by late 1999.

and those weren't too many. but they are the ones that'll
buy 90% of what he releases to them.

I think he's just disappointed in the number of members
and tried to boost the numbers the last3 or 4 years by
promoting the club at his tours and thourgh promo in his
official retail releases.

now that it has probably become apparant that even after
Musicology there's still not enough members (well, what
would constitute enough or not enough lol) and they're
now just rehashing the material they already released and
released and released and released.

sure, I hope to be corrected by Prince real soon as he
throws a shitload of new and unreleased material into
the musicstore, but I doubt it'll happen though.

Anyway, even if he were a bit sceptic of releasing songs
as internet-only releases anymore, it would seem very
easy for him to earn a quick buck from releasing some of
his aftershows and such which will for 98% certain not
ever see the light of day.

however, he doesn't seem interested in that either so it
won't be about the money. I think he just wants his cuts
to reach a bigger audience and to have a longer lifespan
than just being up for download for a year.

Imo he's probably backing up on downloading stuff and'll
go back to pure cd releases in the future.

Besides, if Ryan Adams can release THREE albums this year through
his recordcompany, one of which is a DOUBLE disc even, than it's
just lame that people keep insisting that Prince doesn't have the
means or power to release actual cd's into stores instead of him
fucking around with this online shite which half the people can't
even get to (proves the mass hysteria of all the people with no
creditcard everytime there actually IS something at the club for
download or purchase).

I dont recall this objective for the club being the official word. I thought there were multiple objectives which included exclusive access to the best concert tickets and aftershows as well. That is the real value - front row at a Prince concert is like nothing else. A few mp3s dont equal a memorable experience like Xenophobia or seeng Prince perform from 3 feet away on5 differnet shows (as I did).

I feel there are some things that could better (I was banned) but I cant complain at what they have done.

Co-sign. Man, there are jazz artists like Wynton Marsalis who have released, I don't know, about 20 records the last 5 years, all on a major... But he probably gave away the master rights hehehehe.

Bands like The Roots or Metallica - they really know what their fans want and deserve - and as you make most money out of touring nowadays anyway, why don't release aftershows and live recordings...

My friends, our man still dreams of being numero uno in the charts, that's what I think. Once you had fame, you crave it for a long time

you're kidding, right? Are you really counting ring tones as distinct songs? Are you really suggesting Prince has the best fan site? Or is the best at making music available to his fans?

The grateful dead has many hundreds of tracks available for download at their site. in both MP3 format and lossless flac format. And, they mirror all of it at the iTunes store. 76 albums worth of music, all available at the click of a mouse.

Most artists don't treat mac users as 2nd class citizens or totally ignore the needs of iPod users. It's crazy that Prince supports the limited market of ringtones before he supports the iPod. 6.1 million iPods sold in the last 3 months. a half a billion tracks sold at the iTunes store.

U2's site links you to the complete U2 at the iTunes store over 400 tracks - every track they ever released as well as outtakes. Where can you go to find all of Prince's tracks? How many places do you have to go and how many tracks will you come up short, if you try to buy them all today? And how long will it take you to convert things to play on an iPod?

Lenny Kravitz has nearly every track he ever released (only a couple of tracks from his new album aren't there) right on his site where you can listen to it for free as well as every video ready to watch. He doesn't have 200 songs in his catalog, though. And his entire catalog is at the iTunes store as well.

I could literally go on and on. I keep waiting for them to fix the club so I can actually buy music. I am amazed by the amount of money they cost themselves with their current approach.

www.gratefuldead.com
www.gdstore.com/ (click on Music)

"As promised, the first Tuesday of every month will see new Grateful Dead downloads available exclusively at gdstore.com and iTunes"

Wow, I've never been a DeadHead but THAT'S a great artist website and an even better online music store!! Check out all the old shows that are constantly being released, not to mention album after album of rarities...jeezus, if the GD can do this, Prince can too. confused
