Thanks for all the stuff thats already been released!

Hey its great he is fillin up the store, but what a ripoff, everything he has put up has been released in the past multiple times.

Kamasutra - released with crystal ball

The War - For sale by NPGMC before on CD, and still on tape at this moment

Vanguard Performance - Was just on TV a few weeks ago, shame on your prince for trying to make money off something that was broadcast for free.

Satisfied Clip - same as above - studio version I would not even pay for, this will be on the new album - im not gonna fall for the "pay for it twice" crap, which is done with MOST of the stuff that is put on the mixer.

Glass Cutter - already released in glam slam room months back, this will be on new album also, i will pay for it then.

3 Track 1995 EP - released back in 2001 on one of the Audio Shows, thanks but no thanks.

ONA live - available in stores

ONA Piano CD - nice addition as it is not available anymore, but it has already been released in the past

So all the above is great if you are a new prince fan, a lot of us have been fans since the 80's, and know he can do better than this. If NPGMC wants support they will have to put the stuff up people really want. Is it too much to ask for a few songs from the vault? Something that wont be released next month, or was just aired on TV last week?? How bout a live album, how bout alternate versions of albums that were not realeased, and will never be released, how bout albums like Roadhouse Garden? He could release any of this stuff. I would like to believe that Prince truly cares about his fans, but when I see stuff released like this, it really makes me wonder. He knows what his devoted fans want, yet we never get it. All we get is the opportunity to buy stuff that has already been released 2,3 or 4 times over.

Prince cannot be compared to other artists, so I dont want to hear that phil collins fans have to wait 5 years for a new album, so we should be happy. That argument holds no basis.

Peace

Maybe he is releasing some of the stuff because he knows there are people out there right now waiting to sell bootleg copies of it. Like the Vanguard performance. Wouldn't that have shown up on someone's TV Performances DVD soon? Maybe NPGMC is just trying to make some of that money first. Just a thought.

Let's Discuss...

Kamasutra - released with crystal ball - I only got the 4 CD version as I Cancelled my order with 1-800-New-Crap because I could get it at the store and couldn't wait for it to come ...whenever. Many did not bother with the "hockey pucked" version of Crystal Ball

The War - For sale by NPGMC before on CD, and still on tape at this moment - Doesn't mean that people bought it or got it. Imagine those fans who joined NPGMC for the first time last year. They finally get to hear this.

Vanguard Performance - Was just on TV a few weeks ago, shame on your prince for trying to make money off something that was broadcast for free. - I completely missed this performance. So, I'm glad it got to be out up somewhere. Maybe he shouldn't have charged for it...But I am glad I can own it instead of just seeing it in the cyberclips. It was worth well over the 2 dollars I paid for it.

Satisfied Clip - same as above - studio version I would not even pay for, this will be on the new album - im not gonna fall for the "pay for it twice" crap, which is done with MOST of the stuff that is put on the mixer. - OK...not the best of his songs...and it is clipped form somewhere else...not like it's a studio version.

Glass Cutter - already released in glam slam room months back, this will be on new album also, i will pay for it then. - I had not heard this and missed it when it debuted. I only heard the sample clip on this site as background music. I recall thinking...DAMN now THAT's what I want ...really. and then poof...it's a download. For 77 cents it aint bad.

3 Track 1995 EP - released back in 2001 on one of the Audio Shows, thanks but no thanks. - Again for us fans that joined recently...this is a treat.

ONA live - available in stores - True. You can still find it. I think he's catering to those who don't have it and are Ipoders. Can you get this via IPod store or anything? I think he put Crystal Ball out there because of the same thing...going for the "digital people"

ONA Piano CD - nice addition as it is not available anymore, but it has already been released in the past - Again...never heard it and I wasn't going to pay 100 bucks on ebay for it.

Now, I have been a fan for 20 years. I just never joined the NPGMC until last year. For folks like me, this is great. I understand that his super hardcore has all of this...but he is trying to cater to a larger swathe of people. Just because you aren't enjoying the offering..doesn't mean that the rest of us aren't.

All of your posts make valid points, I can certaintly agree with what you have all said. However this does not change the fact that, based on his catalog of music to choose from, he has been hanging his long term fans out to dry.

Glass Cutter is the only one from the new list that i downloaded, i was reluctant to do this as I am POSITIVE it will be on the new album, thats how NPGMC works. Aside from that, the sound quality is pretty bad and could have been improved a lot. Bandwidth is not an issue anymore (for most) so why put up substandard sounding files? At the least, they should offer a high bandwidth download that is CD quality and a low bandwith for those still on dialup, etc.

The layout of the site is nothing short of amazing, they have really nailed it. Now they just need to get smart with a few other things relating to the music and it would be a home run.

I don't understand why you are complaining. If you have the stuff already, then fine, but there are people who didn't have it all and therefore it's handy. I didn't have The War and Glass Cutter is in a better quality than the version in Glam Slam. I also don't live in the US, so would otherwise have not seen the Vanguard performance and I was more than happy to pay for it.

It's like slagging a movie studio off for releasing something on DVD when it's already been on video, telly and shown in the cinema.

I really don't understand the issue.

Ok let me help out a bit. Nowhere did I say this wasnt a good thing for those that don't already have the stuff, if you read my 2nd post you will see i state that everyone has brought up valid points on this. My problem, and I share this with other long time fans, is that he has a vast catalog of things to choose from, he knows what is "long time fans" want, yet he does not try to satisfy them. What keeps happening is the same things get released over and over, hey this is great for new fans, and semi new fans. The long timers get left in the dust though.

So to reiterate, new fans, semi new fans, its a good thing what is showing up in the club, for long time fans, he coulda picked somethin else. Any long term fan here would replace 99% of that stuff for somethin from the vault, roadhouse garden, or a full love concert download. All which he could do easily. This club exists because of his long time fans, he was once quoted as saying, "without you, there would be no us" or something like that, well its the truth, people like myself and others have given our hard earned money to Prince over the years, spread his music as best we could, taking a beating for liking him and still stood strong, a vault song here or there is not too much to ask. Sure put the tv shows up that free and charge for them, put the album tracks up like glass cutter so people can buy it twice, put up stuff that has been circulating around the club for 4 years, but a little catering to the 2 decade devoted fans would be real nice too.

The concert part of this club, wonderful, the merchadise, I can do without, the music, well read above, the layout, awesome. I think if you asked any long time die hard fan about the music offered so far, they would be a little dissapointed. NPGMC/Prince really need to work on this.

not been on the Purple train since the beginning but it's over 15 years now, so I'm hardly a new or semi-new fan. Yet I still live outside the US, so the vanguard clip is most gratefully received and I missed out on The War previously for various reasons.

Sure it would be nice to see some older stuff that's previously unreleased get a release but don't assume that it's just new fans that are gratefull for these re-releases.

I totally agree I've been a fan for 23 yrs but got my first computer last year, and as for the vanguard performance I live in Australia and never got to see it I'm so thankful that I could purchase it, it was totally worth it for me. With the war I only had it on tape now I get to have it on cd.

There's alot of truth to what you're saying. At the same time, unless Prince one day says "here is everything in the vaults, enjoy" long timers won't be happy (and some will still be ticked).

As a long time fan I've gotten used to the idea that although he releases a ton of music, Prince ain't all that interested in releasing everything he possibly could. He wasn't before the Internet, and he isn't now. Back in 1985 I spent way too much time fretting over, "wouldn't it be cool if Prince would release yada, yada, yada....". Now in 2005, it's more like, "he's gonna release what he's gonna release, I'm not stressing over it."

But that's just me..

I understand where you coming from, it's all about money making, the club see a whole lot of new members come along so it's there chance to cash in. Even though I would love to see all the stuff that was prev released come out to older club members it means nothing especially when there's been a dry spell there.

Doesnt Prince still release more music than anyone now? I mean there is over a album's worth of NEW material each year not counting videos. To complain that much is petty, greedy, and just wrongheaded.

While Prince is more prolific than Phil Collins, he has to sell records in te same universe as Phil Collins and all of the other artists out there. And it is a universe ruled by finances. Constantly pouring music into the market - even great music - just makes no business sense as it is more than even so called fans will consume in any financially viable volumes. There are still those "devoted" NPGMC people that balked at Emancipation, Crystal Ball, NewPowerSoul, NEWS, and Xpectation. Prince can not simply count on them to buy the required amounts of CDs or mp3s in order to offer them in the first place. I figure he can wait for the excess stock of criminally overlooked albums like NEWS (which did reap a Grammy nomination)to sell before flooding more into the market. If "fans" dont have enough appreciation for what an artist does, they dont deserve new music.

except Prince rallied his fans to support him when he was trying to break free from WB by flat out telling us WB was restricting his output. Yet here it is, however many years later, and it's hard to really point to where we have gotten more music per year post WB than we got in the WB era. The only time it looked like perhaps he would do that was the very first year of the NPGMC - what was that, 4 years ago - when he actually released new stuff most months - towards the end that started to fizzle out, though, including shortening the definition of a year.
