Glass Cutter does remind me of Lenny Kravitz' guitar work, but that's a good thing. Sweet track. Prince... release it! If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

It's indeed the guitar work but also the pounding drums that reminds me of Kravitz. But hey i've just had my dinner, drinking a cup of coffee and playing the track again trough my headphones and guess: it's getting better. It has energy!
And still: with the freakin'organ it's a kind of retro song. Nothing against that.It will grow probably as almost all his work does. Art, Amsterdam, Holland. I'm a Rainbow Children, Xpectation, News and Musicology lover and I'm startin'to be a 3121 lover.

When it's a sign of a whole raw and funky album it's ok. I dunno, it's just a Prince jam. Or am i too negative at the moment?! Art, Amsterdam, Holland. No, don't think so. The jam is nice. Glass Cutter is no (real) album material IMO. I gotta agree...I'm VERY pleased with the renewed randiness, and the playing is indeed tight, but the song's a little hookless to me.

San Jose jam is a jam of DMSR. Think it aint when it is. Still sounds great though. You'll never know a girl called Nikki and you'll never find Erotic City

i haven't heard either of these songs, but i just got like two questions/observations about some of the reactions i see here:
1) some of ya'll are goin bonkers over p singin sumfin about tits or whatever. why the big whoop-tee-doo over that? and before somebody pipes up with a "but he don't curse no more"-type response, i know this and it still don't matter to me. 2) who's to say that this chit's brand-new? for all we know the shit might be from a while back. y'damn right i'm questionin the chit, nevermind the "recorded in 2004" disclaimer. sorry to pee on yall's pop-tarts, but don't get your hopes up too high. s'just a song.

To me, his primary message or gift to the world has been the music...it's truly transcendent...other than that, his fusion of spirituality and sexuality has been a pretty damned liberating force in my life. Lately, a lot of that sexuality has been stripped out--hitting its low point with the nearly oppressive dogma of the Rainbow Children (even though it was musically brillant in moments). Fortunately, at least some of the Musicology album seemed to be about an internal struggle with that (on the couch, call my name, if i was...) -- plus the music was damn good. It's like peanut butter and chocoloate...I need both, even if they're in a struggle. Ok, that's my windy 2 cent answer!

I was going whoop-tee-doo for the piece before Anx sprung on me that it's about boobies. Honestly, without the lyrics written down, noones gonna get it....Housequake haven't (even though someone posted my lyric version up there ), and NPGMC hadn't...even though I posted the word 'BOOBIES' no less than 20 times, and included the word 'tits' in the lyrics I went bonkers because of what I stated here: http://www.prince.org/msg/7/120496 although at that time I had no idea what the 'great lyrics' meant And the age of the song here ain't the question, unless ofcourse it really is new...and further suggests his intended direction. I gotta say the best 'negative' comment I've seen here says that the toon lacks a 'hook'. 'Melodic' hook would be more precise. But still, for a demo, and as someone who frickin hates it when he overproduces (particularly on the same ilk of tracks that the sound/style of this is derived), something sounding so dirty, raw, and grungy/funky guitar based is a welcome in my books. ..... BULLSEYE!

Regardless of when it was recorded, he chose to go ahead and release it now, AFTER all the recent hype about not playing songs with dirty lyrics, no profanity, JW, etc...so it's pretty interesting from that point of view. Wonder if he's curious to see what reaction there is (or isn't)?? Last time I checked I didn't see anyone on NPGMC (or here, or HQ) flaming the lyrics; looks like ppl either didn't catch on or don't mind. "I would say that Prince's top thirty percent is great. Of that thirty percent, I'll bet the public has heard twenty percent of it." - Susan Rogers, "Hunting for Prince's Vault", BBC, 2015

In terms of the lyrics, I'd have to say that I love it because of the fact that he's talking in sexual metaphor again. I love many different Prince styles and I get off from different aspects and vibes in his music - but it's been a while since a newly-released song was something that you couldn't play in front of...oh, I don't know, a group of JW church elders, for example.
I like to picture their faces...he's saying what??!! Hehe. It's like back in the day when I used to know that my teachers, parents, and the general community at large would flip if they knew what kinda sick funk I was listening to. And the best part is that it was always POSITIVE....so often (for me, anyway) kinkiness and randiness seems to be wrapped up in a really negative, hurtful, hateful shell. Not so when Prince gets his purple panties in a wet twist. It makes me feel GOOD about being a sexual human being, and that's a good thing. No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.
Sex is not love. Love is not sex. Putting words in other people's mouths will only get you elected. Need more sleep than coke or methamphetamine.

Eh, speaking for myself, I'm not really that worked up about him using more salty language (and I guess now we find out he didn't actually say tits, so oh well!) in his music; this song was just a bit surprising to me, is all, considering certain factors that have come into play in recent years. I love when he does the unexpected and that's what's the most exciting to me...being hit from left field and that's kind of how this song felt to me. Mostly I was just playing around. I honestly don't care if he says tits or or even ! ever again! I just like it when he's unpredictable and last week I certainly wouldn't have predicted he'd soon come out with a song dedicated to hard nipples.

Interesting. I hadn't even noticed Larry's voice anywhere on the song. I will have to listen closer. Thanks for posting that, Katt.

Jason? Darin? Ivy? For those that aren't aware, on your computer you can go to:
C:\Documents and Settings\[your login name]\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\ and you will find files named 102904-1.mp3 and 102904-2.mp3 which you can burn onto a CD for 24 hour jamming of these two great songs.

Now although the overall instrumentation is somewhat familiar...(Calhoun Square, etc..) it's still is a jam...and OLD P - dirty MF!!!!! It's interesting to note he satates it was recorded in 2004???hmmm what happened to the JW P?? the guitar Solo's (yes that is plurl!!) are just brilliant. Thanks P - Happy Halloween 2 U 2!!! 2004 1984 I thought it sounded like a cross between Calhoun Square and The Sun, The Moon, The Stars on Rave. It's a good, solid song, the kind you can expect an artist of Prince's stature to record in his maturity. My only reservation is that too many of his songs sound too formal. They pay homage to different influences in a loving and still creative way, but they could use some of the quirkiness often found in Prince's classics -- the twist on the tradition that makes the effort truly "one of a kind".

Really? That's cool that you heard it and you were right, ain't that fun? (Reminds me of when I first heard Prince softly singing "nothing but eating that pussy..." in Madrid 2 Chicago!) Where is it at the beginning of the song, though? Does he say something, or what? I don't hear it.....guess I'm too busy gearing up for the sweaty nastiness of the glass cutter to hear some old fogey church elder. Hehe. Okay, so even if Larry (a JW elder) IS on that track, I still stand by what I said. It appears that the JW church that Prince belongs to gives him LOTS and LOTS of leeway in regards to stuff like this...I'm quite sure that if in most JW households, if say a 19-year-old aspiring musician came home from the studio with this he wouldn't exactly be congratulated, right? Or are the JWs allowed to be as explicit and sexual as they want? (That's not the impression I had, but I don't want to say they do or don't do anything since I'm NOT a JW and so I can't speak for them). That's not a song that I would play for my mom - well, okay, she would just hate the music and wouldn't even come CLOSE to understanding the nastiness of the lyrics...in that case, maybe I would and should play this for my mom. It'd be like riding in the back of her minivan with my sisters listening to Darling Nikki on the radio and snickering because she didn't have a clue. Of course back then, I didn't even know what "masturbating" meant, but I sure knew it was drrrty. No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.
