Rant, straight from U Smell Us

Post subject: No longer wish to be a member

-----

I wish that my User name and personal details be taken off the NPG Music club site and computers. I no longer want to be a member of this so called ‘music club’ and for all e-mails regarding Prince to cease being sent to my address. Overpricing of products and shipping costs, problems with downloading music on certain computers (MAC) and the overall lack of music is disgusting, this is the view of myself and many other members . Its seems that Prince is willing to preach about morality and splatter his religious beliefs over the internet but is also quite prepared to make money out of the deaths of innocent people. This statement is made after the news of the making of the cinnamon girl video using a New Zealand teenage actress. Why not an Iraqi child? why not an Afghanistan child? why not a child who has lost their parents in this war of terror? Answer..because they don’t have the right look and they don’t bring in publicity i.e. money. After trying to raise this point in the chat room I have been banned which illustrates my point that this club is run by puritanical and sanctimonious people who have no concept of acceptance and tolerance others (which is constantly mindlessly regurgitated ) only how to make the most money out of them. This kind of superficiality is illustrated in numerous t-****, booklets and even dog coats which have Princes face or name printed on them (from a man who doesn't believe in being idolised and thinks of himself as a spiritual man).Regarding the poor value for money and the downloading problem I hope that this enterprise is reported to the Better Business Bureau. This an opinion.

Personally, I think the whole Cinnamon Girl video thing is a bit of a stretch, although obviously it's a sensitive issue to Bexbyo, and I think we've all seen the sensitive ways the goons over at the club operate.

i sort of agree with him/her. maybe he/she went a little overboard with the cinnamon girl video...maybe not...but the point is strong. i don't have much respect for prince (as a person) because he is so hypocritical. i pretty much lost what little respect i had for him back when he charged australians 1000 dollars to shake his hand. that's just icky...regardless of the fact that people were silly enough to pay it.

Everybody's hypocritical, Sass. It not exclusive to the Purple One. As far as the post was concerned, the person is obviously either a hit and run poster who will never post again or someone having fun with the clubmembers to see what our reactions would be. Hope they enjoyes it because I thought it was truly fucked up.

because everyone's hypocritical is not an excuse for hypocrisy. i'm always contradicting myself but simply because i'm always doing it doesn't make it ok.

Oh, but I'm not excusing it. It's not cool when anyone does it. It's actually pretty irritating. lol

I havent seen teh video so Im not sure of how the girl is used...but could it be to do with the fact that a genuine iraq orphan or whatever the crazy lady was calling for might not be what is needed - maybe he needed a good actress, maybe he had a vision in mind, or of course maybe the song is about somebody who isnt a terrorist or from Iraq....but everyone assumes that, cuz of her colour, she is.

In which case the crazy lady is as guilty of pigeonholing as the song she is protesting about accuses peopel of being.

I do think the poster went a little overboard but that's what the NPGMC does to normal, sane people. It can be a very frustrating place to be which is why I spend so little time there. I just check in occasionaly hoping that there will be some new music there. Sadly, there rarely is anything new. Funny thing to expect from a music club, eh?

perhaps you shouldn't have put so much weight on his words....just a thought...
1000 bucks just to shake his hand? I thought that was for a pre-concert meet and greet (with food and drink even) and a seat ON the stage? no? not bad (if true) considering lots of folx paid over 300 bucks just for a seat at a madonnna show. ahhh shit...if I'da had the cash...I'da paid it.

yeah, well, i don't put any weight on prince's words...and that's a shame. it would be a shame about anyone. there is a higher level of respect to be had for someone who makes statements and stays true to them. how can someone get up and proclaim to know how god wants to be worshipped and then perpetuate the idolatry of himself? too sketchy for me.

as for the example of madonna...well, honestly, she never made any public statements regarding how you need to love god. sure, she may talk about kabballah and try to get people interested in it, but she has never knocked the industry and then worked with clear channel. she has never spoken out against idolatry and then charged people 1000 bucks to meet her.

its all good. if you have the money and want to spend it on shaking another man's hand, i say great for you. i just happen to think that 1000 bucks would do much more good at the hands of some charity as opposed to, literally, at the hands of a rock star.

It appears to me that you do indeed put a lot of weight on prince's words...or else why would you be upset when he doesn't "stay true to them" ?
Just because he knows how god wants to be worshiped....doesn't mean he doesn't also know that people will idolize him anyway. And unfortunately...there is "Prince" the man AND "Prince" in industry...if he had to take every statement to the fullest extent...we wouldn't be getting anymore music, tours, photos, website updates,....nadda! So I for one am glad he doesn't take everything he's ever said to it's truest form.
as for Madonna...I can not verify on what public statements she has or hasn't made...perhaps she made statements and then contradicted her self ...I mean...haven't we all done that at some point? I know I'm glad that no one is hanging on my every word! goodness, I will admit I've changed my mind about things I used to feel strongly about...or have made comments in the past that are in contradiction to currernt actions...that is human...no? Prince seems to get into something all gung-ho only to then back off or ease up a lil after awhile...I guess I just never saw that as a bad thing.....
As for the 1000 bucks....I have no idea what Prince did with that extra cash...for all we know it may have gone to charity....wouldn't that be a hoot to find out.
btw, I don't have that kind of money...I was just saying that if I did...I would.

i suppose we could go back and forth all day as to whether or not i take prince's words with a grain of salt or with the weight of the world. trust me, i don't hang on the words of celebrities...or anyone else, for that matter. i still love his music, i'll still see his shows...but i haven't paid much attention to anything he's said since that whole australia thing. sorry, it just turned me off.

The club to me is feeling a lot less like a music club and more of a ‘cult’. This cult has gradually taken to childish abuse resulting in the out- casting of members who have the courage and maturity to ask questions. This behaviour by some of the Members at the NPG Music club has not been addressed but seemingly encouraged by the moderators leaving the club to have a very single minded and insular feel to it. It seems that most of problem is stemming from the use of religion within the site. Perhaps this because members feel that if they show that they are dedicated to God and or the Jehovah Witness religion this will somehow bring them closer to Prince (whom they seem to worship more). After hearing of the threat of suing by Prince and his lawyers I decided to look in the Jehovah Witness religion to find exactly what values and morals it holds.
This is what I found by going through a few official J.W web sites.

On the subject of suing and of the banning of members for their opinions.

Jehovah's Witnesses are found at all levels of society, and they do not physically separate themselves from those who do not share their beliefs. They live, work, and go to school with people of different religious beliefs, and they enjoy cordial relationships with them. Jehovah's Witnesses follow Jesus' example of being "no part of the world" by avoiding the unchristian prejudices and controversies that divide mankind today. Although not ascetics, they avoid being excessive in the pursuit of wealth, pleasure, or prominence.—John 17:15, 16; 1 John 2:15, 16.

In regards to the worship of Prince and the selling of posters, photo books etc.

1 Corinthians 10:1-33

14 Therefore, my beloved ones, flee from idolatry. 15 I speak as to men with discernment; judge for yourselves what I say. 16 The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not a sharing in the blood of the Christ? The loaf which we break, is it not a sharing in the body of the Christ? 17 Because there is one loaf, we, although many, are one body, for we are all partaking of that one loaf.

In regards to the Cinnamon girl video

Jehovah's Witnesses refuse to take part in any political activities of the earth. Their hope remains that the Kingdom of God will one day do away with all other governments earth wide and then begin to rule the entire earth. They do not participate in any wars of mankind, as they believe in the Bible commands of "loving your neighbor as yourself" and the commands of "not to kill your fellow man."

I am not against any religion.I feel questions need to be asked.
