Where is the music! <rant and some math inside>

Alright lets do some math.

He has "thousands" of songs he has not released yet. (He last said this on Ellen)

So lets be conservative and say that he has an even 2000.

We have gotten Silver Tongue and United States of Division in the last 4 months.

1 song every 2 months i think wont happen, but we'll do the math anyway. I think it's more likely that we will have 1 song every 3 months. But we'll go with the 1 every 2 for now.

That is 6 songs a year, 30 in 5 years, and 60 in 10 years!

In the year of 2104, that will be 600 songs he has released.

He really needs to speed this up, his fans that are here now are the ones that deserve to hear all this stuff, I'll put up my 79 cents or whatever it is for dload per song.

Sometimes I wonder if we will ever see any of this stuff, it would really be a shame if he just flat out decides to never share all the unrealesed music with his fans, and JUST releases new stuff on the club. Afterall, he is where he is because of us. Why not give somethin back to us? I use the word "give" loosely as we will all be paying for it.

OH well. we will see how it goes I guess, but I was really hoping for a LOT more offered here musically. He has the PERFECT medium of distribution now to his fans, why he is not taking full advantage of it I will never know.

I completely understand your frustration. I gave up on my notion of Prince ever releasing all the fantastic unreleased vault material about 5 years ago, when Roadhouse Garden was pulled up by the roots and left to die. wink

IMO, you should just say "fuck it" and get your hands on one of the comprehensive new outtake boots (not that I would know ANYTHING about how to get one, because I don't, so please don't ask) and be happy with that - I think it's enough.

I have always thought that when he says 'thousands' it's probably more like a few hundred and he's counting the umpteen versions of trash like Mad Sex he has.

Maybe when he hits retirement age or divorce court he'll let some more out.

The Vault lists around 450 known unreleased studio tracks (NOT including remixes and alternate version), some admittedly just demo quality but most are fully-realised songs. And the last couple of years there's been a lock-down on information so more have no doubt been recorded since. That's not thousands, but it's still a lot, and doesn't include all the live jam sessions he's probably recorded.

He definately should release more, although I think there must be many he just doesn't like. Say I was a famous artist, and someone came to my studio and saw a scrap of paper with a drawing on it, and insisted I release it to the public, well, I may not want anyone to see it, as I personally may not think it is upto scratch.

This sounds more realistic.

And I agree that he can actually quite often be good judge of the quality of his own work.

Right? Where do you go after that, anyway? "The album after the album he was born to make"? wink

personally, I have a suspicion that the number of DECENT original songs left in the vault is in the tens rather than hundreds or thousands. Maybe a few album's worth at most. Even so, I can understand why he can't be bothered going through all the half-finished tracks, live jams to weed out the good stuff, let alone clean up the tracks for the public.

If he keeps up the 1 or 2 new albums a year that does equate to at least 1 track a month. That's enough for me.

I don't know if we "deserve" it or not, but any fan would want to hear more of his music. It is his to do with as he pleases but that doesn't make us want to hear it any less. There is no perfect solution but surely there are more songs that are up to his standards that he could release. And he must know that all of the previously bootlegged stuff is out there. Wouldn't it make sense for him to release it officially, with the sound cleaned up?
