I bought a stack of NEW POWER SOUL cds from good will years ago, for like $2 a copy/sealed! I think I have 40 copies? They were donated by Target. I have about 7000cds almost time to open the REALM music store!

Okay...I can't be the only sucker to buy these downloads. $2.50 is nothing. I spilled that much in beer last Friday. If I had to pay $2.50 to see them on TV I would have. I do not get MM so I did not have a choice.

Question to anyone who has DL'd these vids...In D.M.S.R., it seems like there is some lame edit at the 14 sec mark or is that just mine? Its like it skips and the camera angle jumps.

I see your point, but you have to realise the shock of this! NPS is almost universally considered his worst album (BinayJustin notwithstanding), so its a bit of an enigma that he would put it up for download when he has so much more material that SHOULD be made available.

It really isn't the worst album at all.

Let me put it in these terms:

Graffiti Bridge = The Phantom Menace
Newpower Soul = Return Of The Jedi
Sign O' The Times = The Empire Strikes Back
Lovesexy = A New Hope
Purple Rain = Attack Of The Clones

ok, so this is one of the funniest threads i've read in a looooong time!

i will have to get the video downloads since i don't have much music and did not get to see that performance.

nps is total and utter shit. i like a few songs on there but it doesn't make it anywhere near a respectable album from someone with p's capabilities. i expect more of britney spears even. i know nobody is truly "excited" about seeing this as a download knowing that songs like extra lovable have never been released!

so let me just ask - should NPGMC not be allowed to even offer NPS, even if they offer it with a minimum of fanfare? should it not even be an option? does their offering it in the musicology download store represent some kind of breach against the fans/fams?

and i know the door is wide open for smartypants responses, but i'm serious - was it wrong for them to add NPS to the options in the musicology store, and why?

Of course not - they should offer any and all of Prince's albums/music they can, and obviously this album, being wholly owned by Prince/NPG Records qualifies. How cool would it be if they started selling the other 2 NPG albums - see the arse drop out of the eBay market!!

they should be allowed to offer whatever they want...though they should desire to offer the best quality music to the fans. even prince must know the abysmal reception that piece of crap cd got...why would you offer it a second time as a perk of membership? after they've run out of good music to offer, no it is not wrong for them to offer nps. when there are barrels full of much better music just sitting in the vault collecting dust it is just a sketchy decision.

well, okay. but i don't think they were making a big deal out of adding it to their inventory, which is why i find the response to be so vexing. the hatbox, okay - i can see the uproar about that to an extent. but they were just kinda saying "hey, we're adding NPS to the musicology store, whatevah," and i don't see an issue with that. if they were making it a bigger deal than it warrants, THAT i'd find silly.

i guess most people are just tired of the rehashing and would prefer some unreleased stuff...especially since the little guy does SO much bragging about the shit. its like the guy with the little dick that always talks about his HUGE, MASSIVE cock. maybe the vault is not as grand as p likes to pretend?

Isn't that kinda sad, though? What do you think that's about? Seems to me that if the vault's not what he's still making it out to be, then you can't really blame the fans for still wanting to hear some of it, can you?

maybe if this is indeed the case, he thinks he can build it up? maybe he wants to keep the lion's share of vault material for when he retires, or to be released posthumously? heck, i dunno. he could pull a bjork and release a video and audio performance from each tour and keep folks in a state of catatonic bliss for years...and we KNOW that stuff exists. who knows what his deal is.

my only gripe, as per usual, is that i don't have a lot of use for video files for my PC...if NPGMC had turned the MMM performances into AUDIO files, i'd be slobbering all over that stuff.

You do know that you can burn these tracks to audio cd, don't you?

btw, does anybody know how to convert a quicktime file to play on WMP?

yeah, but how? and if it's so easy, why wouldn't NPGMC wanna just go ahead and do it themselves and sell 'em to suckers like me who don't know how? smile

You do have a point. But I think maybe they offered the wrong album? Many people are clamoring for a re-release of One Nite Alone-Piano. There are a lot of folks who missed that when it was initially released. I think most people are puzzled that they decided to make New Power Soul available. I don'e ever remember anyone asking for New Power Soul to be made available again. Of course, I could be wrong. But I think it's pretty likely that Prince did just come across a warehouse full of NPS and that's why it's available again.

The logical (and yes, I do know that logic and Prince are mortal enemies) thing to do would be to offer all of the music Prince has released since he left WB. Then anyone who missed something could easily pick it up. I don't see why he can't have his back catalogue available and also offer new music. I know we all think we know best but this seems like a no brainer to me.

I would like to see those performances though. Did he really brag at that taping that he has TWO vaults now? It's sad to see him brag about that kinda stuff when he apparently has no intention of ever releasing any of it. Whatever.

.

I could not agree more. Whenever he starts bragging about how many songs are in the vault it's like he's rubbing salt in the wound! I know we'd still be clamoring for vault material whether he mentioned it or not, but it would be nice if he didn't rub our faces in it!
