Mac question for NPGMC I am thinking about joining up again. I did early on and couldn't download anything because I am on a MAC. I am running 10.3. Does anyone successfully download onto their Mac? Is it worth it? I'd hate to sign up again and get nothing again.
Thanx a ton, Becky the official GIRLY GIRL of the Lesbian wing of the Prince.org. Accept no substitutes!!!

if you're running Panther, you may want to reinstall Classic. For the longest time, I couldn't get the files to work on my Mac running 10.3. I had given up on it, as the only thing that happened when I tried to open the file was WMP opening and telling me that the file type was incorrect or something. So, a few days ago, in order to run a chess program, I reinstalled Classic. The day after I did this, I tried to open a song file from NPGMC just to try it again as I always did. This time, Explorer opened, got the file permission, and it played. So I can only assume that Classic in some way makes this possible. You can't burn them onto a disc, but I use audio grabber pro, turn them into MP3's and there ya go! [This message was edited Tue Jul 20 13:26:44 2004 by BlackandRising]

I've bought nearly everything from the Musicology store and haven't had any problems. Running OS X 10.3 on a Powerbook G4. As long as you have the latest version of Explorer set as your default browser and the latest version of Windows Media Player 9, you can purchase, download, and with a little effort, but the audio files to CD and/or get them into iTunes. Go for it. Check out The Mountains and the Sea, a Prince podcast by yours truly and my wife. More info at https://www.facebook.com/TMATSPodcast/

See, I had ALL of this configured correctly, and the files just would not play. Explorer wouldn't even open when I opened the NPGMC files. All I got was an error in WMP. Believe me, I tried. I even reinstalled Explorer and WMP after a while. But right after I installed Classic again, viola, they start working. So being the logical person that I am, I just assumed that was the problem. Maybe not. But why would it work for you and not me? I have a Powerbook G4 as well...installed Panther in Jan.

Did you have Classic installed when you initially purchased music, then later removed OS 9 from your 'book? If so, it's possible that some of the DRM licenses were stored in your OS 9 System Folder rather than your OS X system folder. When you upgraded to Panther, were you upgrading from an earlier version of OS X or installing over OS 9? Bsunshine -- you can always purchase music from the club without being a member, so you can try it out for 99 cents a track and make sure it works for you. There's also a "test" sound file that you can download for free to ensure that the downloads/licensing work for you. The only real benefits to being a member are: 1. Presale concert ticket purchasing 2. Discounts in the Musicology download store ($7.77 for albums instead of $9.99, 77 cents for downloads instead of 99 cents) 3. Access to the rest of the NPGMC website, which doesn't really offer much more than a forum similar to prince.org, an online chat, the Glam Slam room that spins older music/mixes on the weekends, and the Reflection Room that mainly includes widely available older tracks. Oh, and occasional tour photos. [This message was edited Wed Jul 21 9:56:41 2004 by Doozer] Check out The Mountains and the Sea, a Prince podcast by yours truly and my wife. I installed Panther over an earlier version of OS X. I didn't purchase any files prior to doing this, so none of the DRM files were stored in a Classic folder. My understanding was that when you installed Panther over an earlier version of OS X, it removed Classic. So, when I reinstalled Classic and the files suddenly worked, I just figured that it had something to do with Classic. This is interesting. I have to figure it out.

Now that I can at least listen to them, I have a question; how are u converting them to Mp3's? I use audio grabber, but it's kind of a hassle...

Unless you specifically choose to do so during the installation process, Panther shouldn't remove/affect your OS 9 system folder. Glad you've got it working, anyway!
