OK. Just to make you feel a little better, I did a bit of research and found an old email from the idiots at NPGMC:
High NPGMC, More downloads r now available from the January Edition of the NPGMC: Come and listen 2 "Madrid 2 Chicago" and "Breathe" from MADRID 2 CHICAGO, coming this summer. Xperience "One Night Alone," "U're Gonna C Me," "Here On Earth," and "A Case Of U" - xcerpts from ONE NITE ALONE: New demos from Prince cut during TRC Mastering sessions. And download the NPG Ahdio show which features a new remix xperience from Paisley's own DJ Dudley D 2 warm up ur cold January nights. After the remix jams, open ur ears 2 some live rehearsals from Prince & The NPG. Video clips will be made available next week as we complete the final edition of Year 1 of the NPGMC. And stay 2ned 4 a special upcoming chat session 4 members only 2 discuss the future of the NPG Music Club. Love4oneanother, The NPG Music Club www.npgmusicclub.com However, the actual release makes NO mention that this was considered a collection of demos. I doubt Prince himself considered it as such.

I think he called it 'demo' because it is his vocal version for Nikka to follow, much like the other songs he gives other artists to record their own versions (Van Gogh for instance!) he wanted to distance the track from the final released version that will be on Nikka's new album. Simple really.
