Are they going to charge for it? If so that would be a new low.

But then again... If some people are sad enough to pay to watch a promotional video, they deserve to be ripped off.

Since everything I've seen from people who have seen the video at a concert has been glowingly positive, I'll add my grumpy two cents.

I'd really like to know who the chick is in the vid playing the mallet keyboards (what's that thing called? I really should know) with the long blond hair.

Anyway, it's a pretty damn boring video, and personally I can't see it getting any more play than Musicology did....the Musicology video was far superior, IMO. But hey, whatever. So is the club seriously gonna charge for it? Heh.

*IF* they charge (and I don't think they will because I'm an idiot who believes hope springs eternal), I can really, truly see no reason to purchase such a thing when I can obviously just tape the sucker from TV for free (like I did with the Tavis "Reflection" performance, hmmm).

Maybe I'm just a sucker but I have no time to sit around and wait to tape some promo video, I would much rather pay for it! It's like my dad used to say, you can go out hunting for hours to kill some deer or be at work, making good $ to buy good food, I'll opt to work the hours and pay for the things I like in life and also pay myself with investments.

Bottom line is if you want it pay for it. If not, in this day and age, you can find it for free on the internet. So why complain and bash the NPGMC.

I'm sure Prince has gotten paid by Columbia for his efforts on the video and you can guarantee that he won't be out of pocket from it's existence. The idea of videos is that they're made to provide maximum potential for airplay for a song and therefore sell more copies of the album from whence the song came. The artist makes (lots of) money from the extra sales of the album promoted by the video.

I'd like to think that the NPGMC will provide this PROMOTIONAL video for free, as a way of promoting the album more and repaying customer loyalty (and on thinking about it, I'm sure they will). If they sell it, fair play to them for exploiting a market and bigger fool the people who pay for it. You will be paying for something that has already been paid for by Columbia.

Ah, but there's a big difference here. Warner's are a record company that are out purely to make money as Prince opined endlessly about for years during the 1990s. The Hits collection was a product created by Warners and was presented as a (not-as-good-as-it-could-be) retrospect of Prince's video work throughout the years. Therefore, it at least provided something that you felt was giving you value for money. You couldn't easily get those videos anywhere else and that made it a unique, desirable product to the more hardcore fan. Also, you had packaging and a physical object that made it more like something to treasure.

During my 'buy anything that Prince released' phase, like just about every other fan out there, I bought the Hits collection video. However, now I've grown up, I've learnt to appreciate when I'm being exploited as a customer. And I'm certainly not as enthusiastic about parting with my money and i probably wouldn't buy a similar product released today. To charge people to download a video that can easily be seen on some of the music channels right now is simply exploiting the most passionate fan.

I'm happy to buy as much new, previously unreleased studio music, live music and original video material that the NPGMC can throw at me. But if they're going to charge for stuff that's legitimately out there elsewhere for nothing (the 'Reflection' performance on the Tavis Smiley show springs to mind) Then I won't be buying it.

I seriously doubt that the Club will charge for this video should it appear on the site, but if it does... Well, as I say, hurrah for them for exploiting those stupid enough to pay for it.
