Sound quality at concerts So, from everyone who has been at Musicology concerts in various venues - how was the sound?
A close friend, who attended Madonna's show at the MCI center (Wash, DC) said the show was great but the sound was shit; if he didn't already know the words to her songs, they would have been impossible to comprehend at the concert. On the other hand, I attended a Yanni show at the same arena last year (don't ask - what some guys will do for pussy will amaze you!) - and the sound was crystal clear. How's our boy doing in this regard? *****************************************

I was at night two in Detroit this week and from the floor, the sound was pretty good for an arena. I could clearly make out all the lyrics and hear the different instruments. No complaints.

To the NPGMC members who are primarily hearing the sound from the monitors it's great, but like all arena shows once you get towards the top it's going to sound pretty poor.
I thought the sound was real good, but like I said I heard the monitors and I also saw it the Xcel Energy Center which is widely considered to have the best sound of any arena in the country.

The sound quality has been poor. It may be b/c Prince is touring in arenas as opposed to the clear/clean sound of the ONA theatre-based tour.
NPGMC seats have some of the worst sound b/c of their proximity to the speakers. From what I can tell, the sound is better in lower level seats. That said, I wouldn't trade my 4th row seats for anything.

Thanks for responding. I have lower level public sale seats for Philly in August - so that should be OK.
Interestingly, last month I saw Bowie at a smaller arena (Patriot Center, VA) and had nosebleed seats - despite that the sound was quite good - not muddy, no echo.... *****************************************

The first night in Detroit at the Palace sounded like sh!t. I was so pissed. I could bareley make out what he was saying and there was a lot of feedback when he would play the guitar. The next night was much better. I am not sure why the difference.

Agreed, Purplecharm. The sound the 1st nite in Detroit wasn't quite right, and I think the Palace is considered one of the better arenas for sound in the country. The show was still the Jam of the Year.

The sound in San Jose was too loud.
It was probably the loudest show I've ever been to They say that place has terrible acoustics; everything reverberates off the metal roof. I figure it was the acoustics, because the audience was deafening, as well as the band, which I've never heard at a show. I saw many people rubbing their ears after the show. My brother & I were laughing nervously like we were on drugs "heh heh...I'm pretty deaf....how bout you?" "yep...hehheh....me too" "hope this doesn't last!" It went away in a day or two. In Sept I'm bringing ear plugs, which I've never worn to a show, but I think I'd hear the music better with them. I sat down in the 8th row floor, by the way, and the show was still amazing.
