June 21 Detroit setlist and notes PRINCE AND THE NEW POWER GENERATION
THE PALACE OF AUBURN HILLS, MI (about 35 miles north of Detroit) 21 JUNE 2004 concert started about 8pm Eastern (20:00) or a few minutes after Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Video intro Musicology Let's Go Crazy I Would Die 4 U When Doves Cry / Kiss 1999 Intro - Baby I'm A Star Renato interlude Shhh D.M.S.R. medley (DMSR/Crazy In Love/The Way You Move/Great Balls of Fire/Housequake) A Love Bizarre / I Feel 4 You Controversy / A Love Bizzare Renato interlude God (Love Theme From Purple Rain) Instrumental (played by Renato Neto on keys) What A Wonderful World (by Maceo) Acoustic Set Little Red Corvette Cream Raspberry Beret Telemarketer Blues 12:01 Alphabet Street Adore Automatic I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man The Beverly Hillbillies Jailhouse Rock 7 (with band) Sign O The Times Dear Mr. Man Whole Lotta Love Let's Work (with Prince on candy-apple red and white bass) U Got The Look Life O' The Party Knock On Wood Kiss Take Me With U Encore Purple Rain -- total time 2 hours 12 minutes notes -- detroit crawl motor babies Jamie, Traci and Jeannie, made it on stage to dance and be spotlighted by Prince. Jamie was scoped out by Prince during DMSR and asked her to come up and dance for him. She was so good the band stopped on the one and went into Great Balls of Fire. Jamie struts her stuff and dos a little bit ofa twist and the mashed potato while Prince was walking around and singing to the crowd. Every time Prince would come over to where Jamie was at, he'd notice her and do a little shimmy or a few grinds of the hip and a wink and asmile for her. Traci and Jeannie made it on stage during U Got The Look near the end of the main show. Traci sang duet on Life O The Party with Prince and held her own. Jeannie was on the other side of the stage so I didn't see her, but other Detroit Crawl motor babies saw Jeannie strut her stuff. I met Tuna's girlfriend at The Palace show Monday. Prince and The Band stayed at the Ritz Carlton in Dearborn, about 40 miles from the venue, for their two-nite stay in Metro Detroit. The Ritz is three miles from our house. Prince always stays at The Ritz in Dearborn when he plays Detroit. During Purple Rain encore Prince came out in an aqua-blue jacket and slacks with fringes. He had the coat open and wore a blue (away) Pistons jersey with No. 22 (Tayshaun Prince). For a second nite in a row -- no afterwhater whatsoever. Asked a techie taking down the stage after the show and he said Prince will probably do something next time since Musicology Lesson No. 3 is at Joe Louis Arena. you can beat the wolves but you sure can't beat the pistons ... hello?.. click ... edit [This message was edited Tue Jun 22 11:41:44 2004 by a2grafix]

Automatic He sang Automatic ACOUSTIC??!!!! DAMN, this is why I don't wanna miss ANY shows!!! I'm sure he'll appreciate that detail being put on blast During Purple Rain encore Prince came out in an aqua-blue jacket with fringes. He had it open and wore a blue (away) Pistons jersey with No. 22 (Tayshaun Prince).
Gotta get mine already, been wanting it since last playoffs. I bet those cost a grip now

I almost passed out when I heard A-U-T-O-Matic. That is one of my favroite P songs.
I am not good at writing reviews, but I will say that the show last night was so much better than the one on Sunday, although Sundays crowd was better. The highlights for me were SOTT and Dear Mr. Man. He tore both of those songs up. Thanks for given the low down on where P stays when he is in Detroit. I might have to make a trip over there when he comes back the end of July. I will have to remember not to take a picture.. [This message was edited Tue Jun 22 8:40:25 2004 by PurpleCharm]

Yes, Automatic was acoustic. About 30 seconds. He couldn't get too far into that without some major re-writes on the lyrics.
Thanks for the setlist. Whole Lotta Love was an overwhelming assault of guitar and drums - two of the best players in the world going back and forth. And SOTT had a different vibe.....at first I was concerned that the guitar was not in his hands, but the funkier, jazzier version won me over. Great show.....

thanks for the info.
I have been listening to the radio (all black stations) and checking out the news... it is like there was no Prince concert. What is up with Detroit media? "Remember, one man's filler is another man's killer" -- Haystack

Man, Automatic ! My God, I would have passed out in the middle of the place if I heard that. That's crazy. I'm going back to NYC next month the same time Prince is and I got to find a way to get tickets. I got to see him one more time. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

All 30 seconds of Automatic were AMAZING AND... "Whole Lotta Love" was just friggin' incredible...it ROCKED so HARD!
Also...our girls up on stage...Jamie...was HONORED by the man with "Great Balls of Fire" and she deserved EVERY note of it! Traci and Jeannie picked to go up on stage and Traci singing with PRINCE and dancing with Chance...WOW! John's son getting sticks from John and a tamborine from Candy...Rich got a pick from Prince...it was definitely a "Beautiful Night" for members of The Detroit Crawl!

Just one more thing I forgot to mention ... Mike Phillips, the other sax man, was not in the line-up Monday at The Palace.
Anyone know why? http://www.hiddenbeach.co...s/site.htm
