SETLIST THIRD AFTERSHOW PAISLEY Started 02.35 ended 04:55
Call my name Joy in repetition girls and boys ( with kip blackshire ) snippets of mustang sally ( people on stage) Knock on wood ( with Chance Howard ) What is hip? ( tower of power song ) with vocals by prince something in the water ( oa drumsolo and snippet of i shot the sheriff by mike philips) Speechless instrumental (Beyonce cover) Shake everything you got ( Maceo) prince on bass Superstitious ( Kip blackshire) prince on bass 777-9311 Brickhouse P-funk groove No diggity The Jam with Larry Graham Purple rain no guitar( alternative version) Adore (sax solo Candy D at the end) There were endless solos throughout the show. There were 3 really annoying people dancing ,it reminded me of the Game boys Nude tour period It looks like a nice setlist but we personally thought this was certainly not his best aftershow. Prince was constantly offstage and we thought there was something wrong with his guitar .. There were definately way more people in Paisley this time. But it was for sure that people came to see prince so a lot of people were dissapointed. The Jam with Larry Graham was a good impulse to save the show a little bit .(believe it or not) I want to thank Sifi for his great work "u can boo all you want, but Holland is funky "

I also thought it was amazing. But in a weird way.
The night had very long portions which almost put me to sleep. Still, the passion he put into Joy In Repetition, the sass he put into Girls and Boys and the beauty he put into Adore knocked me over and moved me to tears. I was not in the least bit disappointed. Well, I coulda done without the Larry Graham soul review, but whatevs. Those moments freed me up to walk around the rooms and find people and chat, say good bye, etc. I went to the after show Wed and had no plans to go last night initially. I decided last minute to do it and I am waaaaay happy I chose to go.

I still can't believe I missed all the aftershows at Paisley Park because I had to start a new job. Everyone that was at The Park this past week, should be grateful to have seen Prince perform during a jam session.
Now, I'm even more geeked about going to all FIVE Chicago shows. Please let there be some aftershows in Chicago.

I have no idea what some of you are talking about. This show was so damn fun (with the exception of the 3 annoying dancers). Prince was at his best, having fun, joking around and interacting with the crowd.
The second song "Joy in Repitition" Prince had put his mike in front of some guy, and he belted out the next line. Prince went flying back like he just got electocuted. Prince brings the guy on stage, puts the guy's collar up and puts give him his sunglasses. AND LET'S THE GUY SING THE SONG. Now this guy started out okay, but then he needed to read the lyrics off a cheat sheet. So here's this guy bending over in front of the stage trying to sing this song, all the while Prince is jokingly mocking the guy behind him. It was great! Prince was so interactive and funny last night. When they played Adore, he said we normally don't do requests, but we are going to do one tonight. People from the back kept screaming for him to play Adore between songs all night. It was only about 5 minutes long or so, but it was a great version. He sang it just like the album version. The only part that were slow was Kip's last 45 minutes or so. You could tell he was wasting time until P got there. Was it worth $50? YES! The song list was wierd in a way, but it was pulled off beautifully. I walked out at 4:55am, and EVERYONE I talked to loved the show. I didn't see anyone disappionted. THIS SHOW WAS GREAT! Truth. "So strange that no one stayed at the end of the Parade..." - Wendy & Lisa's "Song About" on their 1987 self-titled album.

There is no way in hell Prince is not gonna do at least one aftershow...so I don't think you have anything to be worried about. Maybe it's because it was my first ever aftershow, let alone at Paisley Park, but to me the Friday night aftershow was goddamn incredible. Being that close to the stage in a room crowded with Prince fans, and seeing how he directed the band with confidence and class was an awesome experience. He was definitely giving his all singing most of the songs. For awhile I've been wondering if Prince was still capable of those extended screams we all know and love, and he must have done about 50 of them last night. I thought he tore it up on the bass near the end of the show, and I can say that I enjoyed the numerous solos from bandmembers throughout the night, especially some of the keyboard stuff.
And I thought the dancers were kind of funny But no, I can't say that added much to show... [This message was edited Sat Jun 19 12:20:56 2004 by Chacmool]

It was a nice enough aftershow. Nothing touched Peach and Beautiful Strange (Adore was amazing in it's own way, though) from the second night, and some of the jamming over stayed it's welcome, but when it was good, it was really good. It was also a really cool feeling stepping out the door and seeing it was already light outside when it was all over.
Also, the show not only made me forget I crashed my car that evening, but that I even had a car. That alone is well worth $50 to me. BTW, I'm REALLY sorry I didn't say good bye to Endorphin and Carrie and Vi the rest (Were you still there that late, Dansa? It was great meeting you, even though we only got to talk for about two seconds!). I was waiting for you all in the smaller room, but my friends were getting a bit antsy so I figured I should just let them get out of there. In any case, it was really great talking to you guys there and I hope we all get to meet up again sometime soon! ~ I'D BUY THAT FOR A DOLLAR ~

I SO wish I could have stayed for the Friday show!!! Y'all got Call My Name, Adore & JIR all in ONE NIGHT!!!! I would have been on the floor in a puddle of my own juices!! DAMN, I'm extremely jealous over here!! But at least I got Beautiful Strange
I gotta say I'm glad to have missed the whole Larry Graham thing I love him on bass but when he gets on the mic or they launch into the whole Family Stone thing I get bored (sorry to say, I know that's a crime to a lot of folks)... Prince only edit. [This message was edited Sat Jun 19 13:57:39 2004 by CalhounSq]

Yeah, it hardly sounds like anyone got ripped off. The whole Minnesota experience sounds incredible. I almost got this week off from work, but on such short notice I doubt I could have made it from Cali. Though I would have tried.
I'm happy for you guys. Jealous as hell, but still happy.

The jungle-ska groove behind Something In The Water was so fucking great. I would love for Prince to release this somehow. Unfortunately, the rest of the show was somewhat stillborn. Prince's voice was obviously in bad shape, and he seemed ready to leave at any time. The band sure had a workout, though. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Joy In Repetition was WAAY hot (aside from the guy screaming out of tune for 2 verses...that schtick is funny for about 10 seconds, legitimately funny and cute, and then it becomes extremely annoying, and that guy's voice waw literally painful to the ears), Girls & Boys was a huge surprise (although to be honest, he didn't play that whole song by any means either...but has he ever actually played that whole song live? "Naughty's what I wanna be with you tonight, tonight" - funkiest part of the song) .... ...but anyway, what he played of Boys & Girls, (the verses and the chorus, sans the bridge) was awesome. And yeah, the jungle ska beat to Something In The Water was amazing...it's just too bad that part lasted like 3 minutes, especially considering every Maceo solo was pushing 15 or so! He didn't even get through the second verse of purple rain, just the first verse and the chorus the first time (or did he go slightly longer than that? it couldn't have been more than 2 1/2 minutes or so), and he wasn't playing guitar, and he wasn't playing keyboards. And while I'm genuinely happy for everone who felt satisfied with the Karaoke Lite version of Adore, it didn't do anything for me, and certainly not after sitting through hours and hours of Prince's cousin's friend's housekeeper who also dances like a skank at Bunkers every week, whooo!!!!! I've seen better bar bands than Kip Blackshire et al. But whatever. It was still great to see everyone and be there with some of my absolute favorite people in the whole fucking world. It's amazing to me how little my enjoyment of recent Prince experiences has to do with Prince himself. No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.

I'll assume I'm one of these people. Seriously blue, it was so good to see you again. As I said yesterday, you always have a home in MPLS. It's funny though with P these days. Of course I absolutely loved the shows and moments at Paisley moved me to tears. Still, the brightest parts of the past week was all about meeting new friends and reconnecting with old friends. I wish we all had reasons to come together more often.

Friday's aftershow was my least favorite of the three. He basically just left most of it up to the band, and left the stage at least 5 times to sit on the bleachers in back and watch for long periods of time. I was about ready to kill those three dancers that WOULD NOT LEAVE THE STAGE! That girl with her little skippy move that she did. That's all she did the whole time.
Not that his band's not amazing or anything, but he just wasn't up there enough. Too much jamming that went on for too long. I'm glad I went, but I was disappointed. I don't want to hear the saxophone ever again. At least not for a long time. "I saw a woman with major Hammer pants on the subway a few weeks ago and totally thought of you." - sextonseven
