My St. Paul Show Experience

Ok yall,
I just got back from the Prince show, and let me tell you...IT WAS OFF THE HIZZOOOOO!!!!!
His Royal Badness tore it up, like we KNEW he would. Twin Cities , hometown, showed him some love. He seem so happy onstage..full of energy. Dancin' around like a 26 yr old man, instead of a 46 yr old man. At one point the crowd was cheering so loud, he got emotional onstage and covered his eyes. He's the most complete musician on earth. No piano tonight, just acoustic guitar, bass, and lead guitar. If this man is one of Alicia's idols, then she has chosen wisely. She could learn alot from him. I hope they stay in touch throughout her career.

I've followed Prince's music since the beginning, 1978. I was 10 yrs old when a friend of my mother's brought over a promo-album. I was intrigued. I think, I am the only Prince fan in my family. He was like the enemy or something because I was raised on a healthy dose of The Jacksons growin' up. LOL!

I was so proud to have been his fan tonight. Through all of his turbulent years and his heyday, I've been there.

His band, the NPG, was krazy... They had muscle. All old pros, who would put ANY band today to shame... Anyway, the drummer, John was sick. The dude has to be the fastest drummer, I've EVER seen in concert. He was twirling his sticks around between his fingers like they were somehow permanently attached to his hands! Prince changed outfits 3 times, and wore flat shoes..!

Some quick thoughts:

1. The loudest cheers:
*When Prince rose up from under the stage at the beginning.
*When Alicia's video of her entering P into the hall of fame was played on the screen. (Minnesota showing AK some love yall, they were hollering so loud, you couldn't hear what she was saying at times... )
*When P dedicated a song to Timberwolves star Kevin Garnett

2. Biggest laughs:
* When the horns played the intro to Crazy in Love, and P tried to do Beyonce's booty shake. He said, he can't do cuz he aint got no booty. LOL!
* When P teased the fans about being lip synchers, and not helping him sing on a song.
* When he brought ladies from the audience onstage to dance, and when he put the mic up to them to help him sing the song, they all got scared, and wouldnt say anything.
* When he told the audience that he wrote Cream while looking the mirror. Then he turned to the video camera, and mimed the words to the song, mugged for the camera, and blew himself a kiss... LOL! He said, "yall go home and try it, and see how easy it is..! " LOL!

3. The best WOW moment:
* The unplugged session. Just P playing his acoustic guitar. Singing , Rasberry Beret. You Got the Look. Cream. Alphabet Street.
* The amount of old-skool joints he played.
* How dead the Minnesota crowd was when he played "Shhhh"... now in Detroit or Atlanta, NYC, they will now how to rep that song properly!!!

4. The WTF moments of the night:
* How many people came in late! Prince started his show just 20 minutes after the scheduled time. Which is good for him. Maybe those folks thought he would be late too.
* How many times, I had to get up and down out of my seats for people going to the bathroom, or buying beer. Goodness! I hate end seats..!
* The two white girls, in the row in front of me.. who probably went for beer 4 times...got so drunk they started doing that drunk girl snake dance that you see chicks do on Girls Gone Wild commercials... who eventually started to make out with each other by the end of the show.

Overall. I give the show an A+. I dont know if this is going to be his last tour or not. But, I thank God I had a chance to see him this time.

Thanks for reading.

Prince should have heard me yelling at the top of my lungs to Shhh both Thursday and Friday night, so much that today my voice is gone. Great show! Excellent review.

I noticed that, too. Like you said, "WTF?"

* How many times, I had to get up and down out of my seats for people going to the bathroom, or buying beer. Goodness! I hate end seats..!

I know what you mean! I was in section c34 row 2 seat 2, glued to my seat because of my fear of heights issue, and had to keep standing up to let these people in and out of our row and trying to keep myself from falling victim to vertigo. Dammit, do your drinking before and after the show, people! Sheesh!

* The two white girls, in the row in front of me.. who probably went for beer 4 times...got so drunk they started doing that drunk girl snake dance that you see chicks do on Girls Gone Wild commercials... who eventually started to make out with each other by the end of the show.

I also give the same grade. The light show was AMAZING from the upper levels! I guess that's one advantage of not being down in the lower sections.

Great review! I hope it isn't his last tour either, but thank God for the memories of an incredible show.
biggrin
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that
