June 11 Bossier City, LA Report B-City is yo' new name....." -Prince
Admit it. The city in which you see a show its just as important as the show itself. Everyone wants to "represent." We all want to say, "I was there when Prince rocked the house!" So its only natural to wonder why our man included Bossier City on this record breaking tour. I had never heard of the town (and I was born in this state). I should have known better. When it comes to Prince, no place is too remote to keep the fans away. This is why my report will focus on them. Tonight's capacity crowd showered our man with love. The level of screams equaled that of the Biloxi show. Most were on their feet the entire night as Prince and the band bombarded us with his classics (many done acustically). Having survived the truly spellbinding Dallas show the night before, I came into Bossier with low expectations. After all, tix sales had been slow. How could he top Dallas. Well, he didn't. But, hey, he didn't disappoint either. If Prince was the least bit fatigued from the previous night's funk fest and aftershow, he didn't show it. He danced, crawled, twirled and shimmied like someone half his age. We ate up the solo performances. From an achingly soulful Ray Charles tribute, to Candy's powerhouse sax (and vocals), to John's mesmerizing stick work. They all drew thundering cheers. As in Dallas, female fans were brought on stage, only to forget (or not know) the words to the song. Its quite hilarious; and quite sad, actually. A heartfelt thanks on behalf of the Bossier fans to Prince and his band! Thanks also to NPGMC for making it all possible. Although the Dallas and Biloxi shows were superior, the fans in Bossier truly "represented." -Ray Deepest sympathies go out to The Blackwell Family. We are sorry for your loss. May you find the strenght to endure. We love you. | |
