I'm going manana, but I read some pretty killer reviews on NPGMC. Seems that the TM people were pretty bummed - line was LONG and some didn't get inside til 1:30, after P had begun his set. People with NPGMC presale tix were let in first. Sheila E played the aftershow as well. A couple people wrote that the show was approx. 1 1/2 hours long but others wrote that it ran a little longer, so I dunno.....hopefully, the Orgers who attended will start posting here ASAP cuz I like to read the reviews on both sites!

oooooh, you know i'd be hot as hell if i paid 75 bucks plus tmaster fees and that fool started before i got in!we'll see how the 2nd aftershow is. i can safe;y say i will probably skip the aftershow if he does one in chicago. i mean, i don't need to see him do the same songs from a concert that i just came from. well, not for 75 ducats.

Yeah the aftershow was a killer. It was my first aftershow experience, and I was expecting chaos and just hoped there wouldn't be any problems. I got there around midnight and the lines were already jam packed. The NPGMC had a separate line and they let us in first at around 1am. So all the members had the best oportunity to get nice and close. I was about 5 rows back right in the center, with a GREAT view (it certainly pays being 6 foot 2 inches tall!). The show kicked off about 1:15am. The songs played were (not in order):

DMSR
Footprints
Knock On Wood
All The Critics Love U In LA
Santana Medley
Controversy
A Love Bizarre
Dear Mr. Man
What Is Hip
And heaps of other covers/jams that I either didn't recognise or can't remember! (including one that Mike Scott sang lead vocals - ouch!)

The show lasted about 1h 45m, around 3am. Sheila played for most of the second half, including a bit where she played guitar while Prince played percussion! A total role reversal!. Everyone in the crowd seemed real pleased with the show despite waiting 20mins for a final encore that never happened. (I guess they had to get him out of the building). This was by far my best Prince experience ever!!!!

Special thanks to Cody and Mouval (spelling?) for the lift there and all the help given!

we didn't get let inside until a little before 1am. and yes the NPGers got in before everyone else (except for the high profile people in the foundation room - i don't know what or where that is in HOB). there was a huge throng of TM people, all of them very upset we were getting let in first. i got one thing to say to that - join the club fools!

anyway, as we walk inside, prince is already up there on the stage, tuning his guitar during a soundcheck. he then proceeded to check and adjust the levels on every mic. he asked who had come from the staple show? who had come from a nearby bar? and said that the HOB was now the house of purple.

after about 20-30 minutes, the band comes on stage and checks their instruments. soon john blackwell starts playing drums, rhonda joins in on bass, then renato and then the horns. mike phillips scatted on a vocoder (i think that's the name of it) and then soon the band was playing DMSR. it rocked!

as for the rest of the set, my memory is a bit hazy but i know he did dear mr. man, controversy, a love bizarre, an instrumental that i don't know the name of, knock on wood, what is hip?, all the critics love u in LA, a couple of other funk covers that i didn't know and closed it at the end with a something that sounded like santana (sorry about not knowing the titles...).

the show was rather short... they went off stage a little before 3 (for the third time), and we standed there cheering for 10 to 15 minutes. he never came back on. that was kind of a bummer. i don't know. maybe we sang along out of tune...

some highlights of the show was when sheila e took the stage. prince had wandered over to her set and she comes up behind him and glares at him. he immediately dropped the sticks and backed off. she chased him away for the full "back off" effect. then after one of the encores, sheila grabbed prince's guitar and led the band with a little guitar riff. it was pretty funny. also, chance played bass on some of those funk covers. i didn't know he could do that. finally, prince was pumped! he was jumping around, whipping the crowd into a frenzy on some of those faster songs, especially during all the critics love you in LA...

i'm also going saturday. i realized last night that the actual show won't start until sunday - june 6th, prince's birthday. you think jehovah will strike us dead if we sing happy birthday to him?

Very very disapointed.

The show had already started with a long line outside, and for the price I paid a scalper for a ticket, I got to see about an hour long show.

One moron member from the NPGMC when I asked if she had any spare tickets replied
"Prince doesnt like that".
Apparently doesnt want people to get into his show then? Without scalpers, ebay and those that 'know people in the right places', a lot of his fans would never get the chance to see him.

Anyway the show itself was great when he was jamming on controversy, all the critics love u in LA, but then moved to the notorious jamming and finished with i think, a Santana song.

The other guitarist sang a couple of songs, and he was pretty damn awful. Let candy sing at least, if your gonna pass the mic.

I didnt go expecting studio-accurate versions of songs, and Ive seen aftershows where u get the flipside of prince in non-stadium-mode, but it was all over too quickly and
Ive never seen an unhappier crowd leaving a Prince concert on the way out.

i agree.. i was standing with a bunch of club members, and although we were bummed that he didn't come out for the fourth time, none of us were unhappy or disappointed when we left the house of purple...
